Thanks for explaining what you feel the count should be. I see so many guys butcher this dance with acrobatics over any sort of rythm.
This should be a mandatory video.
I've seen a ceiling fan kicked and the same girl bang her head on the floor TWICE in the name of country swing.
    Keep educating. Thank you.

Country Swing is great because it's drawing in lots of new people to dance. Unfortunately, most of these new dancers watch other people doing "cool stuff" and want to take a shortcut to that without learning to dance first. We live in a world where everything is instantaneous... but learning to dance just doesn't work that way.

I'm glad you guys came around to Country Swing! And you've done what I haven't been able to do, which is broadcast the smoothness and connection that NEEDS to be the standard for the genre. In my corner of the world, the pandemic actually brought about several happy consequences for our dance community; particularly collaboration across counties and states, and a fresh perspective on teaching and learning the dance. We have a lot of hard workers out here in AZ dancing like this. You keep reppin' and we'll keep steppin' ;)

@@countrydancex It certainly does! I wil admit that I started out only caring about big lifts and dips. Ignoring the actually dancing aspect. Watching your videos have encouraged me to learn more technique. Keep up the great work!

@@jfhistheone5 That's not uncommon with country swing... and probably the main reason so many pros look down on it. Good for you for taking the right approach!

Always love your videos. I appreciate you teaching country swing. I was left in awe on a recent trip to Dallas as I had never observed the discipline in person, and while I am considered a great lead and partner in my area, I was the beginner all over. Tired to catch on best I could, and have been scouring youtube since. My take is that its the future and I have to choose to get good at it. No matter how good a man can double two, he'll be dancing alone if no one else knows/wants to do the right dance for the song. As for the dips (which look amazing), your clear tutorials will help many a man get a better hand on it and keep their partners safe. Thank you both, keep it up.

So glad you enjoyed it. We agree that country swing is here to stay. Many old school country dancers (like us) look down on it. But we feel like the dance has a lot of potential ... just needs more good teachers.

Great video, awesome tutorial as always. Not a huge fan of county swing (aka hustle). Ive seen alot of dangerous people on the dance floor cranking on girls and even dropping them on the hardwood. Thats the worst part about this dance, unfortunately the lady takes the brunt of the damage. I think your lift info and center of gravity and placement was spot on. Guys if you try this please dont yank the girls around and please dont drop them. They let us borrow them to dance with. Take care of them and walk them back to their seats afterwards.

Those are great points! The problem with some country swing dancing being so rough isn't necessarily the dance itself... but the fact that country swing attracts a lot of new dancers who've never had lessons. Almost any dance could be like that when danced with people who have never been "taught" the things you were talking about. Another issue is that many of the "teachers" are untrained themselves.
We dance hustle as well. There are some similarities, but they're very different in many ways too.

Thank you so much for your videos! Do you have any suggestions on how to explain how to tell if a song is good for two step vs country swing??? People ask me and my response is somewhere between "whichever you want" and "whichever feels right" 😂But I feel like there's got to be something more concrete than that??
