I watch hoof trimmers from around the world and it's given me an appreciation for cattle I never had before. They're so important to our society that we should make sure we support those who care for them. Keep up the good work!
I've always loved cows. I never knew though how important their hooves were. I found this channel by mistake I believe. Well it's a great mistake you've taught me allot!! Thank you Gareth
Hey, I'll take a cuppa myself! Your technique looks fine. It's good these cows get treated and rechecked regularly. Thank you for your very fine videos👍👍 Regards, T.
I used to think fariers was the same thing as what you guys do. But now I'm more familiar, I see how different the two professions are. You guys are awesome
Amazing to see how quickly things can deteriorate once one thing goes wrong. So glad you're able to step in and give these lovely cows some relief in the meantime.
Just like in really any animal; I had a MRSA infection in my big toe - I was given oral antibiotics right away, and a surgical procedure was planned for 10 days later to put a stent in my chest for IV antibiotics. I had an MRI of my foot at that 10-day mark, and the bone already disintegrated into pieces (they were sharp little shards, and hurt really badly). So, a few days later my big toe was amputated, and I was on IV antibiotics for 4 months!
Lol. You are truly getting a stampede going. I remember when there was less than a grand of us...I was around with even less than that! You have 6 grand us, now! 💖🙂 Bravo!
I'm a brand new subscriber and am really enjoying your content. I grew up on a dairy farm in South Central Kentucky, so I find your work very interesting!! You have a beautiful family and live in a gorgeous area!!! I look forward to catching up on all your previous videos!!! Stay safe!!!!
I regularly watch four hoof trimmers, two in the US, the hoof GP in Scotland and you. I really enjoy the camaraderie between you and your father. It's great to see you work together so well. I also enjoy how informative and educational your program is. You and your father are good people.
I think it's really cool how experience teaches you different things (like how to bring a coffee when you're late or using just a bit of extra bandage instead of using a dressing...) :D
You are gentle but thorough l dont feeel so alarmed watchin you do your job. I like the way you explain things and why you do the treatments for the hooves. It was very interesting to watch you work. Good luck with your business.
I used to like being in and walking in the rain when I was young in the 1970’s. Now that I’m old, I’m like Tom and say NO to the rainy weather 🌧☔️, especially if it’s cold or stormy 🌨🥶⛈🤧🤒.
Greetings! Hoof GP sent me although I had to go back through your shared video where they came to visit to figure out the proper spelling. It sent me to this one so now I'll watch a few more to check you out! Father/son teams are my favorite channels! The humor is always sly. The information was excellent, good camera angels, well done! Good luck in your journey!
Love watching You, Tom + Graeme the Hoof GP. So pleased you’ve wrapped their hooves with Salicylic…dermatitis is painful + very uncomfortable for them. That farm was tidy but inside of the barns have ingrained filth + slippery ground…Looks as though it’s never seen soap + water. Not nice for the Cows when we see well cared for habitats, where the Cows live in clean stalls!
Just wondering why this isn't done in America. Do you know and do you have to be licensed and bonded. How much does your crush cost. Very interesting and I have tons of questions. Thank you very much.
"Putting on the long finger", I've never heard procrastination so eloquently expressed before, lol, I'm American so that isn't common vernacular from I'm from😁😁😁
Susan since no one has responded to your good question I'll clear it up. The cows step into and walk down a fenced chute a few steps through a trough (long pan) in the floor, usually on their way to milking. It is filled with medicated water that prevents this problem. New sheds/parlors have a set up where they just push a button, it fills automatically and rinses itself, very hygienic. Older barns it is just a cut out in the cement and it is filled manually, usually doesn't have a drain, tough to clean, etc. Repairs to plumbing can be costly and new baths are expensive to retro an old barn so hope this farmer can 'get it done' sooner than later. Sorry, I'm retired and watch way too many dairy farmers hoof trimmers! 😄
@@jofarwell9744 hey jo i didn't see your responses, thank you, l don't know how i ended up watching these videos but there times i have a hey wait a minute !!
Hello T.TV, Hope all's well with everyone/thing! Hairy Wart, well then that explains why none of ya'll have any moustaches or beards. Yup, those would be hard to find and treat!!! I bet I know the brand of trimmer ya'll use (one of two brands), it's either a "MaCowa or MaHoofa", as carpenter's use a Makita!! Be safe and take care, "God Bless", sincerely, Randy. 👍👍🙏😇👊

Great work. Love watching. Are you guys English or Irish? Greetings from Charleston, West Virginia, USA. Proud to be Scottish, English and Irish American.
@@simonalleyne I thought so. My mother, 2 uncles and several cousins all have red hair. They are very proud to be part Irish, including me. A lot of Americans are Irish, Scottish, Wales, English, Dutch, Belgium and Germany. That's my family tree.
I wish l had come across these videos sooner, as l find them very interesting, and bring back memories of my childhood. My folks had developed a friendship with a couple and their two sons, who ran a dairy farm in Greeley, Colorado, USA. There were my parents, my two sisters and myself. We girls were preteen, so we enjoyed exploring with their sons, and observing the milking process, which we found fascinating. We were even shown how to milk a cow by hand, not that we were very successful at it. The big drawback around cattle was the overwhelming smell of manure. l guess l just wanted to ask how you manage to deal with breathing that pungent odor day after day? I do enjoy your videos recording your very important tasks on the farms there in Scotland, and like your accent as well!
Question, when you clean the digital dermatitis with your knife.. how do you clean your knife for the direct next swipe or animal? Do you have something as simple as a spray bottle chlorhexidine? And what kind of medical self-aid do you have with you for that moment that something totally unexpected happens to you both whilst working with such sharp machines and knifes? I really would love to see a video about what is necessary for the unthinkable 😓 because we are all human and working with animals x power tools can be so unpredictable ☺
To be honest if we are trimming the one batch|herd we don’t worry so much about the cleaning as they are all sharing the same environment. If we were going to another farm or herd we always start with clean knives that have been steam cleaned and washed with detergent. The main first aid we have is lots of bandages! Thankfully nothing bad has ever happened. Thanks for watching
You know, I wonder what it's like for a cow to experienced being picked up by the belly bands. Unlike us, they don't even get lifted up and carried when they're little, so I wonder what it's like to just be suddenly in the air with your feet off the floor for the first time
Gday from Australia mate . Just wondering what your farmers are using for there foot bath product that is and if it is copper sulfate what rate do they use ?
Good thinking on breathing in the powder I can’t believe you guys don’t get lung infections breathing in the cow dung. I know I would require a source of water for a power wash or at least water nozzle. You also need rubber mats to prevent slips and falls by employees and to preserve your knees when u get older. Also if you add employees this probably something you could be liable for. Lastly (not that you asked lol) I am super surprised the gunk doesn’t dull you blades. Love your videos please take my comments as kind suggestions.
I'm just wondering why you choose to explore a potential problem area before balancing the two claws? I have seen others recommend doing it in reverse order. Please don't take this as offensive. I ask pointed questions to understand what I am seeing.
Hi Ken. The way we trim the claws depends on what we discover first, there’s no way to put hoof back on so we prefer to check things out first, if that makes sense?
