Keith, this is an excellent, excellent video for us newbies. I want to get that first contact so bad, but I am afraid that my copy isn't that great. I think my sending is okay, but I struggle with copy at those higher speeds. This video has just about pushed into that first contact, and yes, POTA is my thing so this is perfect. Thank you for putting out these videos for us newbies. 73

I have fun doing them and they are aimed for newbies. I have only been back in CW for about a year now and I try and think about what helped me. Make a cheat sheet of the POTA protocol. Essentially what I had in this video so I knew what he would say and I would say. Don't get hung up on 100% copy, it rarely happens. If you get 70% that is ok. Because you have the sequence in front of you on the cheat sheet you know what is coming listen for their BK that is the key- reply BK do your sending Give a BK. and they will close off and the 2 dits. find someone doing 16 wpm or less and just go for- it don't worry if you fall apart in your first couple of POTA contacts. None of us are perfect as you saw in that video. Have fun.. 73

@@ve3svq-theshakykey440 Hi Keith, I would love to get another CW QSO under my belt, but I have to tell you that after watching this video and reading your earlier feedback, I hopped out on the POTA site yesterday, found an activator with a strong signal, and listened. I listened for a while until I got up the nerve to throw out my call sign. He picked it up right away. The contact went just as you described in the video. I didn't copy everything that he sent, but I did listen for the . The only issue is that I fell apart on sending the RST. I don't know why but I struggled getting out that 5NN. I think I got flustered when I messed up the "R R" and "GA", but I did recover and was able to send my home state. I was excited to get to that dit dit. THANK YOU again. I know I would not have done this yesterday if it wasn't for you...73
