I remember a technique in a book from the 90s (I can't find it right now) where beads were threaded on the yarn before the knitting (cutting or changing yarn if you need more beads). It would translate to taking the yarn out of the tensioner, positioning the bead on the work between the needles, and putting the yarn back in the tensioner. It might be quicker in instances where the beading forms part of an overall texture.
