Both films are absolute masterpieces, Ive never understood why people slag Vanilla Sky. I didnt watch it for several years because of listening to the opinions of others, and when I finally did, it absolutely blew me away, and it gets better on repeat viewings. It's a 5 star cult classic, and so is Abre Los Ojos.

Glad I'm not the only fan of both scenes. In fact, I loved both movies. Saw "Abre Los Ojos" first and loved it. Saw "Vanilla Sky" and loved it!

This is my favorite movie of all time. BOTH!
I prefer the original one by far, is genius. look how he gets to the dance floor and everybody starts yelling and then he seems to be singled out from the rest and everybody seems to be surrounding him like he was the center of the attention but at the same time everybody is ignoring him, I think this was his subconscious playing tricks on him, he was probably dreaming already. Cameron failed to capture these small details.

Cinematography and sound design in this particular scene is better in Abre los Ojos. However, both movies are amazing and beautiful in their own right and element. Love both films, I hold them very personal.

vanilla sky had abros to go off but still could not capture the scene nearly as good as abros did. the shilohette scene is iconic!

Original version is 1 of my fave movies. I detested VS at first, thinking it didn't do justice to the original, altho I usually love Cameron C's work. Am warming up to it a bit, but it still can't touch the original. Also didn't like Penelope C's interpretation in VS in comparison, which I think just goes 2 show how much directing & editing 'makes' a movie. And, she seemed to be trying too hard, as the rest of the movie did, when the underplayed mystique helped make the 1st version so good. .
@Spaztik1234 Vanilla Sky is a remake of a much better original that was made in spain called abre los ojos. The second part of the above youtube video is from the original. So to answer your question, it came first. You can watch the spanish original on Hulu or IMDB for free with english subtitles. I highly recomend it. It also stars Penelope Cruz.

Abre Los Ojos es una obra maestra, un clásico inigualable e irrepetible... Vanilla Sky is crappy movie with no soul, no feeling in it... it was just Tom Cruise acting like Tom Cruise!!
Abre los Ojos es mucho mejor, y esta escena es realmente buena, te hace sentir como no apreciamos dia a dia las cosas hermosas que nos rodean, y solo nos damos cuenta que las teniamos, cuando las perdemos..!!!
Es por que Abre Los Ojos tiene mucha drama y tension a comparada con Vanilla Sky

I disagree. Considering its a remake of the original film, and despite its noticeable flaws, Vanilla Sky has some unique qualities. In my opinon Tom Cruise is outstanding in this film. I was really surprised. Crowe's direction is admirable too when you take into account the unusual subject matter. I have to admit though the original film is probably better even though I haven't seen it
In these scene, ABRE LOS OJOS is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY superior!! By far! But both films are great, in general. VANILLA SKY has some other better songs than ABRE LOS OJOS, anyway.

Hell no i disagree tom cruise ,to me just copied eduardo noriega, it is penelope performance that was different but in a good way, abre los ojos was well detail film and intriguing too but that is just my opinion.
