  • The Battle of Amblève (716) was an important event in the early Frankish Empire, where Charlemagne, then still a young leader, demonstrated his military and strategic abilities. This war took place in the context of the Frankish Empire facing many rebellions and challenges from opposing factions.
In 716, the Frankish Empire was led by Charles Martel, Charlemagne's grandfather. The empire is torn apart by rebellions and internal conflicts. Against this backdrop, rebel factions led by Ragenfrid, a powerful noble, and Chilperic II, the Neustrian puppet king, staged an attack to overthrow Carolingian rule.
Charlemagne, then still young, joined his grandfather in this war. The battle took place at Amblève, a strategic location in the Ardennes region, where rebel forces had gathered to attack the Frankish army. The battle ended with a resounding victory for the Frankish army. The rebels were completely defeated, and opposing forces retreated. The victory at Amblève not only consolidated the power of the Carolingian family but also affirmed Charlemagne's military talent in the early stages of his career.

Thank you for the video. I love to learn more of the history of the early German Empire but I hope your other videos are less audiovidually distracting and go into more detail.

Agreed. I love the subject matter, but this feels more like art than it does a historical youtube video. Going to check out some more videos on this channel because I love how he focusses on these obscure battles of the Frankish Empire and it seems like he plans to cover the beginning of the German Empire too. But I hope he alters the way he presents the videos.
