The best thing about Kimi's racecraft was that he always left enough space for his opponents, even the ones you saw in this video where the opponents went off track while battling Kimi, there were actually just enough space but they messed up themselves under the pressure.

If Ferrari weren't so centered around Schumacher they'd sign Raikkonen in 2002 to drive alongside him. But Schumacher had a special stipulation in his contract which allowed him to say no to team mates Ferrari considered signing. Ferrari considered signing Mika Hakkinen for 2000 but Schumacher told Ferrari they minute they did he'd leave the team...
At any rate Ferrari should have groomed him to become Schumacher's successor. Alas it wasn't to be until 2007. In fact, just to tie in with my previous point, Ferrari were beginning to doubt Schumacher since he lost the 2006 title to Alonso and prepared to sign Raikkonen for 2007. It's not entirely clear how it happened but reports said that Ferrari made it clear it would be "Raikkonen/Schumacher" for 2007 or "Schumacher retires from Ferrari". Since Ferrari announced it so late Ferrari also made sure Schumacher had no time to find a drive in a competitive team. He thus has no other option than to retire.

6:32 look at the throttle and breaking Tracking there.
Kimi uses a stabbing throttle pattern in this clip vs Fisichella’s More standard Brake and Throttle Pattern.
If you slow the clip to .25, you can see that Kimi uses a touch of throttle 4 times during the corner as he is braking, so as to not totally lose the speed and momentum he has.
Truly, it allows him more control, and the ability to brake later.
His amazing amount of feel for throttle and brake Control is Astonishing.

Some perspective folks Kimi entered F1 in 2001 with only 23 races under his belt. Verstappen entered F1 with 47 races under his belt. 2 years later he challenged Schumacher for the title. Think about that 2 years into f1 and you are challenging a 6 time world champion who had decimated the entire F1 paddock the year before and the years prior and you fight him to the very end and lose out by only 2 points. He is absolute genius in the heat of a GP, and there is NO-ONE else ever! on the absolute limit who is that smooth and that fair at almost all times. That's what makes him the best for me. There's something rare about any sportsmen can have skill, be brutally tough/quick, yet never cross that line of trying to take someone out illegally. There was just something about how clean and effortless Kimi made everything look. Hands down the best wheel to wheel driver I’ve ever watched, and his car control was just as good, if not better than Schumacher. If he was ever with the right team at the right time, he would be in the GOAT conversation without a doubt. His numbers (which are still great) don’t truly show just how good he really was.

I think if there is any driver who has always been prime, it has to be Kimi. Give him the top car and top reliability, he will smash it. Even with Alfa Romeo, his defending is out of this world. And topping all of it, his racing is so aggressive and at the same time, very fair.

-chain overtaking not seen by anyone apart from Mika and Fernando only in glimpses
-racecraft and clean defensive positioning that stood out from the rest of the grid since he came in (he used to create a train behind himself and keep oftentimes faster cars on better strategies for enitre stints behind himself)
-lightning quick time attacks in qually, used to get on poles by half a second or more (watch him in narrow or chichany tracks like monaco or imola)
-greatest car control and drifting skills since prime Nelson Piquet (maybe ever)
-wet weather master (not quite as Senna or Schumacher but close enough)
-adaptability to all technological eras (further validated by his long career)
      -king of spa (goat track)
All the things he was lacking was within the team, i.e reliable and dominant car

If I'm not mistaken Kimi did not do so well on either occasion, nevertheless happy to see him and the others live. In Monza my dad had tickets to the front row in the first shikane, he wanted to see action, but that year it was raining in Italy and they had a flying start. Extremely grateful to see all of the drivers though! The thing I remember the most is the sound of an F1 car at that time. We jumped off the bus way to early in Italy and had to walk for something like 3-5 k, even from far away you could hear the engines roar and downshifts blast as if they were 10 feet away!
