Your hair is beautiful! I transitioned about 2 years ago and my hair is just a little bit shorter than yours. Do what you feel is best for yourself! Patrick did a wonderful job!
It is so hard to grow out dyed hair!!! I have done this many times throughout the years. I use to do exactly what you did I would find a dye color close to my root color and only color the hair up to the grown out area. It really helps with the grow out process. 😁👍 it looks great
How lovely that your husband helped you! The Natural Instincts color really adhered to my grey hair, and it didn't wash out. Since my dyed hair was super dark and my grey super white, I simply cut my hair chin length with lots of layers. My style then was "edgy" when the layers were styled out (that's fast and easy with a flat iron) and the color was half dark, half grey. From there on I just let it grow until eventually trimming the damaged ends. It was a very easy transition after cutting the hair chin length and I looked super cool, zero maintenance. That was a few years ago, now it's all long and grey as in my profile pic.
My hair holds color also, that is why I was careful not to apply it to the new growth or gray hair. I'd love to go shorter, but every time I have cut my hair short I have regretted it. It just doesn't suit me, and so I will wait it out. 😄 Your hair looks lovely!💜😊💜
Such a great idea! I have been considering discontinuing dying my hair for a couple of years now and as I am turning 60 this year I think I’m ready! Like you and so many others I am tired of the time and expense of covering my gray. I can only go 4 weeks between coloring, and that’s too much for me. Im nervous but excited at the same time. I love this tip you shared and will remember it as my grow out becomes more obvious. Thank you Robin!
I love this new color! It provides a stunning contrast with the gray that is growing in. Patrick did a great job! I also like the way you styled it straight. It looks so healthy and shiny now that it's been trimmed a little, too. This was a really good idea to help make you even more beautiful as you continue to let your natural color come in!
Thank you for sharing! I’m 6 months in and have 5 inches of new growth and the old dyed hair is turning orange too. I had this exact idea and asked my beautician to help me and she said no 🤣🤣 so I’m getting my hubby to do it this weekend. I’m so happy I found your video so I could see it. Thank you for sharing.
What a great idea! It's great and it will make the whole process of growing in your greys much less painful. I had to chuckle about the things a good husband will find himself doing! He did a very good job.
Your hair looks lovely! What a brilliant idea to color your hair in this method! Your husband did a great job!! The new color brings out your beautiful eyes! thank you for sharing!
What a fantastic idea! It looks very nice and I love the way your silver/gray strands are coming in for you. I'm a silver sister myself and wouldn't go back to color for anything! Thanks for sharing the process Robin, kudos to hubby too!
Pretty pick me up while not changing the original purpose with the grey growing out still. Certainly makes sense. Very encouraging. Thank you for sharing this, blessings to your day. Your hubby did great, the cut too looks sweet🍃💖🍃
What a great way to deal with the half way house stage! I think you really suit the grey tones and the semi permanent colour evens out the colour on the ends. A win win situation ❤️❤️
Very nice video! I'm going through the same transition of letting the grey take over naturally. I'm 68 years old and I'm ready for the grey. I still have quite a bit of my natural brown color still there but my bangs and around the temples are getting a real pretty silver color. I like it!
I love your hair straight! Brassy hair is the bane of my existence🤪 You are not fighting the aging process by wanting more even-toned hair 😊 I used this same hair colour this past summer to help with brassy tones from old highlights.
I’m a color specialist 🤦🏼♀️ I’m encourage mi clients to go lighter than dark , blending better with the gray , don’t color darker , love your videos , your husband did good 👍
Exactly what I've done👍. First a heavy weave of highlights and a blond toner and 4 inch cut(my hair is now🤔... 2 inch's or so below my shoulders) and slow but sure(4 months) it's blending pretty darn well.
Thank you Sandra! I used to do my own color as well, but needed help for this "operation". 😄 I'm always amazed that other women can cut their own hair. I would butcher mine for sure! You must be quite talented! 💜😊💜
That turned out very nice Robin! How good of your husband to help you. Mine has done the same for me over the years. A wonderful thing indeed. God bless. 💖😊
I love the look! One thing you may want to try is Redkin Purple shampoo. I started to use that because my hair gets brassy from hard water. It has really helped tremendously! I color my hair and my hair color stays much longer. You only have to use it once or twice a week- it's expensive so it's nice not to have to use it often.
Thank you Jenni! I use that same product and it does help - but my hair was beyond what it could handle. 😂 I will continue to use it though - it brightens the gray and my husband loves using it too! 💜😊💜
I think your hair looks great, and I’m sure you know how lucky you are to have a husband who would help you with that! I went cold turkey years ago, letting my grey grow out. I had my hair cut super short after about six months and then kept it short for years afterward because it was so much easier to care for. Now, twenty years later, it’s mostly silver and nearly shoulder length. It’s thick, healthy and I get lots of compliments on it. I don’t regret my decision at all.
I understand going gray is a very hard to do, but one of the most important reasons I started going gray is I wanted to stop adding chemicals to my body and drying the texture of my hair. Your hair does looks pretty and we all have to choose what we feel is best for us. No judging here. Be happy 😊
I think it was a perfect idea!! The difference between colored and non-colored hair is definitely a lot less noticeable and more natural looking. I may try this myself when I decide to go back all-natural!! 😊
I think you did the right thing. I always thought yours did not look right....but of course not wanting to say anything I chose not to. ☺️. I’m only telling you this because I tried multiple times, over a two-year period, to stop coloring mine but I just couldn’t do it. I felt it looked off since I had been coloring mine and it was a little lighter than my natural color. Last August I colored my hair as close as possible to my natural color. I’ve been dye free since then and I think it’s looking really good. I get compliments all the time. I think you will be much happier this time around. Your hair looks great.
Thank you! I think you made a wise choice in getting your hair back to it's more natural color before making your transition. I am much happier now and think it will make the rest of the process easier. 💜😊💜

Robin, KUDOS to you! I admire you for being on this journey. I am watching this transition with interest. I have been thinking quite awhile about creative ways to get through this process - when I get the nerve to even start it. 😱
Hi Robin - You do you! I always think you look nice but whatever you decide to do to your hair is your choice and no one should comment unless its a positive comment. Otherwise keep quiet. That’s just my opinion. I’m glad you were able to achieve what you were going for. Very smart.
👍🏼👍🏼Impressive, from the idea to the application!! I am embracing the beauty of my gray by growing it out. My haircut is short. The remaining color from almost a year ago has also lightened to a brass color on the lower third, which I don't love. Our son is getting married in a few months & I've been trying to figure out what to do as I didn't want to cover the gray, as it's pretty. your solution is something I hadn't thought of & now am considering. Thank you for sharing. I would love an update in 28 days on you thoughts.
Thank you! I hope this idea works for you as well. I will check back in to let you know what I think as the color fades out. How exciting to be planning for your son's wedding! As the mother of boys, I know that we don't have a ton of involvement - but it's exciting all the same! I know the wedding pictures are on you mind, so I hope that you find a solution that gives you confidence and makes you feel as beautiful on the outside as your are within! 💜😊💜
Lots of people use a variety of methods to help the transition like foils overtone a toner to ease the pain of growing colour out even now occasionally I get a toner or foils to enhance what I have the difference being I am not obsessed with covering the grey rather loving my colour and playing with it sometimes it really is different.
I thought I noticed a difference in your last cleaning video. It looked so shiny and healthy. I think this is a good way to transition. Maybe next time even try to get closer to the color that is growing in. I may try to do the same.
I let mine go gray & it's just so empowering & freeing. I have a short pixie haircut tho so mine didn't take nearly as long. Hang in there. I think the color looks great. Whatever helps you to transition & be comfortable.

Maybe now since you have chosen this color, finish coloring your gray then use highlights about two shades lighter than your color usually works best for a natural look. Or just go all over gray which is my vote. There is nothing pretty about transition of gray unless it is blended either naturally or through color.
I finally quit fighting the grey about two years ago but I wasn’t ready to go full on natural so I had lots of blond highlights put in. My grey pattern is not even and would look a little weird so this was a great compromise.
I love the look of grey hair on women. I’m currently growing mine out too. I have really white hair growing out so I bleached my hair really blonde to help match it a little more.
Looks like Patrick did a great job! He just might get a second side job!! LOL !!! Seriously, it looks very nice! If you are happy and satisfied with your hair, that is what is most important!!! I'm going to talk to my beautician on the next visit about doing more of a gray highlight instead of blond highlights, to see if it would help me to grow in my gray more naturally. I have short hair so it does probably make it easier to deal with.
Next time drop the peroxide by half. 20 vol. peroxide is used for lifting and your hair had already been processed. 1 oz h2o to 1oz peroxide. Color will last longer and use a sulfate free shampoo.
Hi! I stopped dying my hair over a year ago. So glad I did it! Now I’m going to let my hair get a little longer so I can put it in a ponytail. Hang in there, it’s worth it.
Robin, I will continue to support you no matter what you do with your hair. I think it's so critical when we decide to do any drastic change, that we are doing it bc it's right for us, not bc it's a trend or bc someone else is doing it. Otherwise, it's inevitable that we will change our minds when it's no longer a trend or someone else stops doing it. Going gray will challenge you in all kinds of unexpected ways. It is not a decision to take "lightly" (ha, ha). I receive subtle hints every week to not continue it. I could never continue if I wasn't solidly planted in the Truth of who God says I am and what He wants for me. His plans for us are personal & not about comparison or trends. So, if you have a change of heart, it really shouldn't deflate anyone else' plans on going gray. If you continue on, we can be inspired, but, ladies, don't do it unless it's right for you. ❤❤❤
I’ve been going gray for a few years, not by choice, but because I’ve developed a severe sensitivity to all dyes-even the hypoallergenic ones. I have a very dark complexion and black hair, so the gray is shocking to say the least. I just wanted to share that lots of my homeschool-mom-friends have let their hair go gray after I started letting mine go. One woman told me, “Let me know when you decide to go all gray because I’m tired of coloring my hair, too.” 😆 Since experiencing the sores on my scalp and face, I’ve come to realize that those chemicals cannot be good for us. That being said, I’d probably still be dying my hair today if it weren’t for the reactions.🤷🏽♀️
I'm so impressed with your husband's skills, Robin! What a star. Your hair looks gorgeous and very natural. I love it. xx

I think it looks lovely ❤ it's your hair and you have to do what you feel comfortable with, but thank you for being honest xx
Thank you Tina! 💜😊💜
It looks lovely....kudos to your husband.....by choice, I have never colored my hair....at almost 70, I’m just now starting to gray....
I couldn't agree more Amanda! 💜😊💜
You have lovely hair
He had some great technique!! It’s almost a balayage!!!
Oh. And I’ve been transitioning grey for about as long as you have and I feel this in my soul!
This is a great idea n kudos to your wonderful husband 😊
