No, the (original) 12V socket uses an extra, unused connection behind the display. Remove the display, remove the protective plug and connect the 12V socket. 5 minutes of work. Very easy. You can see the connector @17:50
Can't you just tap into whatever needs to be tapped, and then route all those wires into a part of the bike where you don't have to remove as many panels as possible? So the setup you just demonstrated, you only need to do once in the bike's lifetime, and then whatever new product you may have, or replacements can be done in a more convenient area.
I get what you are saying but you really want to keep the throttle grip sensor wires as short as possible. They are highly susceptible to noise. Ideally you shouldn't need back into the work area if it everything works!
