    Nice review. Would have been excellent if you had used the volume control of the pickup to demonstrate its responsiveness. I liked the classical guitar usage as I am looking for a good pickup for my nylon string classical

      Thanks for that. It’s a great point! It did not occur to me. With passive pickups like this, the tone tends to get a bit darker as you turn down the volume control (same as an electric guitar passive pickup) so I only use the knob to deal with occasional feedback issues or as an off switch when turned down completely. Active pickup are not effected the same since they are buffered circuits, the volume control does not create the higher impedance that makes the tone change. It’s a nominal effect with this pickup though, sounds pretty much the same full up or turned down a bit.

    Is the volume control of quality build? I've seen so many volume controllers in different apparatus that get staticky after a while: I guess the mechanical aspect of the electromechanical volume control wears down. Does it sound quality when used?

    • @MatGurman
      @MatGurman  2 года назад +1

      Their products are very solid. The volume control sounds transparent to me. I use it wide open into a preamp when playing live but here in this demo it’s completely without processing. I use it on my Cajon also and get great results. Any potentiometer is going to get scratchy over time, especially after a long period of non use. It’s usually correctable by repeatedly working the pot.

    Can I use this on a nylon string guitar, and plug it into an electric guitar amp?

    • @MatGurman
      @MatGurman  3 года назад

      Connor Whyte hi Connor, sorry I’m late in responding. You can use an electric amp with an acoustic instrument pickup but it will lack the detail and clarity you would get from an acoustic instrument amp or PA, mainly due to the speaker in an electric guitar amp is not made to produce sounds over 5k and the sound from an acoustic instrument typically goes up to about 20K. This is also why electric guitars don’t sound pleasing going into a PA or Acoustic amp which produces sounds that are much higher than the sound of an electric guitar. There are a few amps made to do both but they are not really ideal.

    The blue putty doesn't stick properly. I got the AP-1 a few days back and it just doesn't stick properly on my Classical guitar. It keeps falling off, so till I find an alternative to the blue putty, I can't use the AP-1. Plus one really needs to fiddle around with the placement to get a good sound though it definitely solves the problem of plugging in the classical guitar without any drilling. Thumbs up for that. Maybe I'll try the KNA NG-2 and see how that works out.

      sorry for the late response. Try Blue Tack. it works well and is inexpensive. I learned about it from a Bluegrass shop. it is a little harder to remove.

      Bikash Baran Mondal That is a Kremona Rondo TL Classical Guitar. It has slightly reduced nut width but is still wide enough for classical playing. I’m using nothing to enhance the guitar sound, it’s going straight from mixer to camera.

    How does this work with percussive playing on acoustic guitar?

    • @MatGurman
      @MatGurman  5 лет назад +1

      Moonwink Cuber It’s a contact pickup. It picks up the acoustic vibrations from what ever you stick it to.. It can be used on anything. That being said, if you bump it or hit it, it will sound like bumping a mic or piezo Bridge saddle. Some common sense in those regards are necessary for best results. Contact pickups have been in use for 50 years as an easy way to amplify acoustic vibrations and sound surfaces on stringed and percussion instruments. They are not as detailed as a mic but warmer than a bridge pickup, more prone to feedback than a saddle pickup, less so than a mic.

    • @MatGurman
      @MatGurman  2 года назад +1

      Yes! It will work on any acoustic instrument that you can find a place to attach it to. I use mine on my Cajon also and have also used it to record sound effects that are hard to capture with a mic. It’s very versatile.

    • @MatGurman

      Seán Earnest It’s similar. I’ve used both and the putty that comes with the pickup is a bit more polish friendly, nearly identical though

    What if you put it on the back of the guitar?

    • @MatGurman
      @MatGurman  3 года назад +1

      You would get something but it would not be as punchy as putting close to where the most vibration energy is coming from. That’s on the face close to the bridge. Also you would run into more feedback because you would need to turn up the volume more. I think you would probably also run into noise from your body brushing against it when you play.

    Is it good to use it with percussion on the guitar body?

    • @MatGurman
      @MatGurman  5 лет назад +1

      You can use the guitar in any way you normally wood and it will be amplified by the pickup. If you techniques like taping on the body, yes that will be amplified. You will get very different sounds and tone depending on where you place it as the pickup is VERY sensitive, if you meant can it be placed on a percussion instrument like a Cajon, yes, you can use it to amplify anything that you attach it to. Again, it is very sensitive to where you place it and slight adjustments in location have a huge effect on the results you get. It is very hot so start with the volume low so you don’t get feedback from acoustic instruments.

    • @MatGurman

      dany valdi Yes, anything that will accept the 1/4” end of the cable. Be careful with volume levels when using any acoustic instrument with a pick up as it’s easy to get feedback.

      I recently started using this on my Cajon and it’s works great. Very honest and even sounding. I mounted it on the outside face about 3” from where the snare is on the inside so it sounds mixed between bass and snare. I’m just mentioning cause you were asking about percussive styles with the pickup. I think it will work well for you. Cheers

    Don't bother. I bought one which only gave reasonable output/tone when adding finger pressure. Putty was rock hard, tried with adhesion pad and same result. Supplier wouldn't replace as putty\adhesion had been used. How the hell can you check its function if you don't follow installatiion instructions?? Total waste of money

    • @MatGurman
      @MatGurman  Год назад

      I suggest giving Blue Tack a try. It adheres well. I also suggest reaching out to KNA which is in Rancho Cordoba, CA in the Kremona Guitar facility and tell them the putty that came with your pickup is dried out. They may have a suggestion on reviving it or send you another. Good luck
