  • My repair of a recent Beats Pill 2.0 that did not want to charge anymore. Apparently many, many people have that problem. Turns out it's one of the battery cells that's dead. Warning: features unremarkable consumer hardware that does not work. Vintage fans of my other superbly-engineered, milestone-setting hardware, move right along.

    This was really helpful, my pill wouldn’t work without needing to be plugged in. It would also crackle/pop when the sound was increased. After watching this and changing the battery my issue is fixed! Thank you so much.

      I have the same problem I didn't know if I wanted to change this battery cause it was cracking all cutting out before it died. Wouldn't even stay on plugged in

    Thanks so much for this video. My dad repairs all my stuff for me and now that I’m almost 40 years older I figured I should try to help myself. My dad supervised and helped me figure out how to read the voltage of the battery and with your helpful advise I was able to see my batteries were not holding their charge anymore, know exactly what to order online to replace it and disassemble and reassemble it all by myself.

    That's what happens when 'designers' rather than engineers try to create something.

    • @gooseknack
      @gooseknack 5 лет назад +6

      Thats how everything is done. Most everything is "designed" by designers, who are also, engineers. Who also had to solve the issue of fitting the batteries, speakers, antenna and circiutry within the "pill". Of course, the pill has to be designed to sell.. the end result isnt always practical, from an engineering standpoint.

      that type of mentality holds humanity back. we should work on saving things and not wasting so much . anything you can repair you should instead of scrapping it . besides, whats 30 minutes of work to save you from spending $150 on a comparable speaker. To save these only costs like $30 , $120 for an hours work tops , alot of people would prefer to do this

    Great video, I bought a new charger and discovered it does not charge any more, i barely used the thing maybe a few times but definitely out of warranty, will need to replace the battery, disgraceful manufacturing, this video is going to help!

    Awesome video! I had always wanted one of these, finally bought a used one on eBay and it has this same issue. Luckily I purchased a year of coverage rom Square Trade when I made my purchase, so hopefully they can do the battery replacement and then I won't have to 😁 other than only working while plugged in and not charging, it sounds pretty good.

    For modern stuff repairs like this, it is good to have some industrial grade double sided tape, you can get giant rolls of it at very decent prices on banggood, ebay of other stuff-from-china retail websites. They are available in a whole range of width., really convenient if you want to get a clean reassembly.

    Never worked on an HP laptop, huh? I hate those things. Dells are usually the easiest, but I recently encountered some that had bad BIOS batteries, and the entire laptop had to come apart to replace them... heatsink (which meant dealing with thermal goo), screen, motherboard, everything... and it was not an easy one to take apart. These engineers, sometimes....

      some HP laptops have their backup battery accessible near the HDD, while others need to be taken to bits to replace it

      My fujitsu's (both a 2007 amilo and later 2013 model) have one large panel that unscrews to reveal the whole mainboard, the only idiosyncrasy is that the older one had one of the memory sticks under the keyboard and the newer one has a separate panel for the fixed HDD, also NO weird screws all Philips.

    • @PistonAvatarGuy
      @PistonAvatarGuy 6 лет назад

      Yeah, it really just depends on the model. I'm refurbishing some HP laptops right now that have most of the things that you'd need to access often very easily accessible. The HDD, memory, BIOS battery and WiFi card are all removable after removing only three screws. The one thing that HP really seems to be bad about is not making the processor fans easily removable for cleaning, that often requires removing the motherboard and heatsink, and that's really annoying.

    Bad design. Two Lithium-ion cells in series with no balancing. Sooner or later one of the cells goes to 0 volts and get a reverse charge and it's game over.

    • @CuriousMarc
      @CuriousMarc  6 лет назад +1

      There is a balancer. I even test it in the video. Beats me (pun intended) why the cell went bad.

    • @zaprodk
      @zaprodk 6 лет назад

      OK. For me, it only looks like there is checking of the cell voltage. I see no load resistor and MOSFET to load down one or the other cell to keep it down while the other cell is charging.
