Great video Jonny, I am surprised at the detuned 2.7 V6 twin turbo, here in Canada/US it has 310hp/400 torque and you will for sure be getting RHD in the UK it is just getting held back from this global supply shortage a friend of mine who works for Ford Canada had told me a while back and i am with you about the hardtop, its my one and only choice, there are issues with them currently, Webasto out of Germany is the supplier to Ford for the hardtops so if you Bronco is ready you can take it with a soft top and a credit the dealers are saying or wait for the hardtop issues to be fixed which they forecasted for December , so it maybe all good, here in Central Canada we are having -30 t0-35 celsius weather and have heard no complaints about them so far and i only spoke to one guy in the grocery store parking lot and said its great and no heating issues in our weather , the testing does not get any better than this 👍
I sort of like it but the roof is a bit of a faff and when you open the rear door it obscures the lights - doh! . I guess the door removal thing is more aimed at off-roading but take it off and kiss goodbye to any sort of safety. Of the bunch the Defender's the one to buy but I can see people going for this because it's quirky... make it right hand and I think the sales could be decent. Fabulous for dogging (If you are into that sort of thing)
I know you're just having a bit of fun, Jonny, but you do realize that both the Bronco and the Defender were being designed at the same time so there's very little chance Ford copied the Defender's interior? Also, those hardtops have been one of the biggest drivers of delays in the release of the car - Ford had to recall all of the cars with hardtops early in 2021 due to quality issues with the top, and stopped selling them, so dealers had to sit on any in their inventory while Ford organized the replacement process - which cannot be trivial with something that size.
@@TheLateBrakeShow Which doesn't change the fact that the design of any car is generally frozen several years before it makes it to market, and the Defender wasn't the first to do those design details. They are both taking inspiration from older cars so it's hardly surprising they wound up with similar designs.

Quality review Johnny 👍 Surprised the boot door opens the correct way for driving on our side (the correct side) of the road,is it opens up away from the pavement 👍
We here in the USA can’t really even get them yet. I’ve seen two on the road and I live in California surrounded by Ford dealers. I have only seen four at dealers not one of them was for sale. two at one dealer two at two different dealers all forward for display purposes only.
@Pete Lattimer: if Ford made these in RHD (likely in smallish batches like GMdoes with the C8 Corvette) I suspect the UK would struggle to justify any volume given the dominance of LandRover. Instead Ford would easily sell 2000/month of these in Australia, probably similar numbers in South Africa too.
@@rotoehu9266 you may be right, however there is a market for such a car IF priced right. i know a number of people (myself included) that would LOVE the 'car' version (i forget its name now) of the Ranger, that Australia etc all have, but the UK doesnt. they tried to sell the edge over here, but it was INSANELY expensive, for what it was, compared to other models in the Ford range. im talking pretty much DOUBLE the price when new of an equivalent sized, equivalent specced Mondeo (i priced both at the time) plus the later Edge was Auto only, for no reason other than Ford could, which also put a lot of people off. even 'cheap' cars get stupid expensive when brought into the UK. the Bronco proves this. from memory in SWB base form, its a $24k car in the USA, which at the current exchange rate as i write this, would make it under £18k! suddenly its NOT a competitor for the defender, or even a Discovery Sport (what used to be called the Freelander) at that price point! an entry spec Ford Fiesta with no options has a list price of over £15k in the UK, yet the Bronco can be made (for its home market) starting at £3k more?
Looks a bit like the 1980ies Ford lorry with the enlarged Transit cab, the A series. 300 hp from a 2,3 litre engine is nice! My old Citroën DS has around 100 with same capacity and number of cylinders.
The Bronco is nice but it's way to expensive in the UK. It's a lot cheaper in the states so it's worth it. There are better 4x4s out there for the same kind of money. If it was a lot cheaper then 2.7 v6 twin turbo is the one to go for as its pretty swift and highly tunable. I'm surprised that its not available with the 3.5 v6 eco boost.
Saw on hoovies video about the bronco the waiting list is even worse now because they've had to recall them because of the hard top, so the majority of them you are seeing now are rag tops
How do the importers get the dipped headlight beams to work for an RHD pattern and hence be legal? Back in the day when Ford owned JLR its Mercury division did a design concept which looked almost like a potential Defender replacement with certain carryover styling cues. I can see elements of that in this Bronco.
I own a 1974 Bronco, I'm runnin a 347 Ford small block stroker so it's a high rpm high horsepower motor, 4.11 gears with lockers front and rear, 4spd, Atlas transfer case, and I love it....however, I do wish the suspension on my '74 provided as nice of a ride as I'm sure that new Bronco does, mine beats the hell out of ya after a while....
Yeah for overseas driving this would be ideal but in freezin Scotland - not a chance in Hell, I prefer my comfort and heated seats for my bum. Plus price is a bit extorionate if you ask me.
Jonny! Random Q. That hoodie ya got in the Bluebird vid..... Where'd you get it? Ps Ford have had really odd plastics QA problems with the hard top roof on these. Lots of angry customers.
@@TheLateBrakeShow fair point but i believe these start at $24k in the US which would be around £20k equivalent here. i realise theres a lot of £ in the warranty and getting it UK compliant but thats a hell of a mark up even all things taken into account

Cool vee-hickle. Far more character and utilitarianism than the new Defender. Shame about the LHD and relative (list) price hike, otherwise it would probably sell really well.
The Badlands with all options is the most expensive one, and I guess, for Europe and other markets, there will an option with the six-cylinder diesel. The same engine as in Land Rover Defender and the new Range Rover. I'm sure there will be a right hand driven version, for UK, Australia and other markets.
There is three competitors, the Bronco, Wrangler and the Defender. Defender is the luxurious ride, the Wrangler is the tractor, and Bronco is something in the middle, but I think the Bronce has the best overall reliability in the long run.
Don't see the point of large offroad vehicles in the UK unless you have a big farm in Scotland or Cumbria. Even here in Australia some people have massive utility vehicles that never see the offroad.
Most conventional car reviewers: "I have to close all the windows and turn the air con off to talk to camera even tho its a boiling hot day so that it doesn't affect the sound quality" Jonny: "Imma take the whole door off when it's 2°c"
Great video as usual. I might be wrong but it feels like it might be only targeted at certain markets. Then it depends on the price in that country £70k here, you seriously want one. Especially with its competition? If I had that money and was in the market for something like this a lower spec G-Wagon , or Range Rover sounds very temping.
Awesome video as always Johnny but 70k for a Ford that’s gonna rattle more than my Nan after taking her medication! If I could afford one I’d pick up the hybrid defender you reviewed recently. Saying that if they brought out that 2 door version in a more affordable package then I’d be interested haha
If Ford gets around to making a right hand drive version, and ships it to UK directly, it will give the Defender a real run for the money. At the present moment the folks in UK are paying almost double what they cost in the USA. A hybrid version for the USA would clobber the Jeep; at present it is a bit of a gas guzzler (compared to the Maverick).
I don't think anyone in Europe has any Bronco nostalgic feelings whatsoever. They're broadly an unknown, and according to US reviewers, not actually that great. Keep them stateside.
There’s something really undignified about driving a car with one door missing 😂 I love it

@@TheLateBrakeShow working out which versions of euro fords the drivetrain is shared with could be difficult though. the recall on some early Focus RS models for example, was because their engines had been fitted with the head gasket from the 2.3 ecoboost mustang. same (basic) engine, but different head gaskets. and as for a manual transmission in one, im not sure ive seen a 7 speed in ANY manual Euro Ford yet. i know your test car was automatic, but things arent always as simple as it first seems
Excellent work Mr Smith. What a car. Just can't see it fitting into the UK market. Anywhere in the US this will be a blast. Great filming locations too. 👊
In Oz I first remember old Broncos from watching Parnelli Jones flying in the Baja 500
Loved the old bronco Eddie Bauer, with the 302 coyote engine,The OJ car
Fun fact: you can have a bottom of the barrel base model and still option for the metal bumper (here in the states).
My favourite looking new vehicle over the last few years no question. Just disappointed we cannot get a right hand drive version ..... but ..... I literally whooped when I heard Johnny mention that Ford are going to making it for the Brit's and they are planning on turning it into the worlds most handsome EV. If there was an avenue to order one from Ford I would be smashing down my deposit ....
Always watch you mate..even if the car is not my cup of tea..so enjoyable.no higher praise..puts me in mind of a young harry metcalf
Meh, I reckon the Def was on the drawing board first.
@@TheLateBrakeShow Which doesn't change the fact that the design of any car is generally frozen several years before it makes it to market, and the Defender wasn't the first to do those design details. They are both taking inspiration from older cars so it's hardly surprising they wound up with similar designs.
It’s like the new defender except better in everyway!!
I'd have one! Just for the fun of driving with a door missing. RHD and electric and it would be perfect.
Wouldn't it have been great for a police office to drive past as Jonny was removing the door. Can imagine the discussion...
Officer: good afternoon sir, what are you doing?
Jonny: good afternoon officer, I am filming a RUclips video...
Officer: but why are you removing the door at the side of the road?
Jonny: well, first of all because I can, and secondly, it's 2° and b0110x, why not?!
Officer: carry on...
Absolutely love the attitude @Jonny, the comedy is free.
Oh, and the Bronco looks great. Not sure if which I would choose out of a Bronco or Defender...
Got it in SPOOWWAAAGHT 19:05
"Outer Banks" is referring to the Outer Bank Islands of the Carolinas on the US East Coast. A moderate swampy area with a lot of brackish beaches.
Quality review Johnny 👍
Surprised the boot door opens the correct way for driving on our side (the correct side) of the road,is it opens up away from the pavement 👍
shame they arent bringing it over officially in RHD. also a shame its going to be so much more to buy in the UK (as always) than in the USA.
Great video Johnny , I doubt there's plans for it to come to Australia any time soon, and as usual if it does it'll not have all options available
Think the 3 door base model with steel wheels looks stunning - not so keen on the 5 door soft top
Jonny, when you knocked on the bumper it sounded like the intro to danger zone by Kenny loggins.
Oo I’ll have to check out Clive Sutton. I spec’d a bronco about 6 months ago for fun. So it would be nice to see if I can get one in the UK.
Go for it. Take a test drive to see?
Is this not knocking on the door (pun intended) of the Ineos Grenadier in terms of price, but possibly Ineos could be better product?
Yes, v much so
Love your hat Johnny! Thanks for a great review :-)
Most importantly is that jacket from Hollister?
Not being sure on pricing if this upper spec price is equal to the Rivian base spec price, there is no competition unless you have range anxiety.
That’s some old fashioned tech. The roof is complete bobbins
It took a while to unfold/fathom...
In some states in the US it is illegal to remove the doors on your vehicle.
Reminds me of my old 4 litre "XJ" Cherokee. Very cool.
Yeah for overseas driving this would be ideal but in freezin Scotland - not a chance in Hell, I prefer my comfort and heated seats for my bum. Plus price is a bit extorionate if you ask me.
Drove past some lady looking at one yesterday.... in my old Nissan Pathfinder :)
Looks best on the steel wheels.
Jonny! Random Q. That hoodie ya got in the Bluebird vid..... Where'd you get it?
Ps Ford have had really odd plastics QA problems with the hard top roof on these. Lots of angry customers.
I hear there is a huge backlog of production too.
@2:08 ....those spot welds.
I hope the electric one has a power bulge
Great job with the review.
softtop looks like an 80’s aftermarket conversion
Quite the markup, but to be expected I guess.
Yes, they have done a lot to make it UK compliant, but also supplying with a big warranty costs £.
@@TheLateBrakeShow fair point but i believe these start at $24k in the US which would be around £20k equivalent here. i realise theres a lot of £ in the warranty and getting it UK compliant but thats a hell of a mark up even all things taken into account
Apparently Jonathan Ward was on the design team for the Bronco.
Great video, thank you. You should try and find an imported 2020+ Shelby GT 500.
Love this show, just subscribed. Top gear final something I can watch again for entertainment (since Clarkson’s demise) but this is my go-to for geek facts and nut and bolt detail…. Love it
Welcome aboard TLBS Chris.
Cool vee-hickle. Far more character and utilitarianism than the new Defender.
Shame about the LHD and relative (list) price hike, otherwise it would probably sell really well.
so far so good, but what will it tow
ANOTHER BRILLIANT VIDEO.
Most conventional car reviewers: "I have to close all the windows and turn the air con off to talk to camera even tho its a boiling hot day so that it doesn't affect the sound quality"
Jonny: "Imma take the whole door off when it's 2°c"
Got really excited thinking it had been launched in the UK! Hopefully Ford UK brings it in with a diesel engine
Is this about the size of H2 Hummer?Size alone ,on UK roads, may make it a difficult proposition.
I lold when you mentioned Icon. I do not associate these two at all..
Great video as usual. I might be wrong but it feels like it might be only targeted at certain markets. Then it depends on the price in that country £70k here, you seriously want one. Especially with its competition? If I had that money and was in the market for something like this a lower spec G-Wagon , or Range Rover sounds very temping.
after OJ simpson drove away from the police at speed, after definitely not killing anybody
cracked me up
What's with the weird blinking headlights at 11:10?
Awesome video as always Johnny but 70k for a Ford that’s gonna rattle more than my Nan after taking her medication! If I could afford one I’d pick up the hybrid defender you reviewed recently. Saying that if they brought out that 2 door version in a more affordable package then I’d be interested haha
It may have been 25 years but that’s still OJ Simpsons getaway car!
It saddens me how much better this seems than the new Defender
If Ford gets around to making a right hand drive version, and ships it to UK directly, it will give the Defender a real run for the money. At the present moment the folks in UK are paying almost double what they cost in the USA. A hybrid version for the USA would clobber the Jeep; at present it is a bit of a gas guzzler (compared to the Maverick).
Hi Johnny , great video great looking car, regards mark
I don't think anyone in Europe has any Bronco nostalgic feelings whatsoever. They're broadly an unknown, and according to US reviewers, not actually that great. Keep them stateside.
