I just wonder, why everyone is hating this amazing voice, the voice is not common, so if you hear The Agonist for the first time, you may find it strange, but listen to few more songs and you will grow to it and love it :)
I wonder why so many people who clearly don't like this genre of music still bother to watch/listen videos from Century Media. You don't see me lurking in the rap section of youtube saying it's crap music.
I think his point is that metal is a genre that encompasses loads of different styles. So saying "true" metal is the same as calling something a "true" horror film. It's like whatever your opinion of the hostel franchise is it's still as much a horror film as The Exorcist or even things like Bride of Frankenstein. Also I think the BFMV And Trivium before thrash thing was a typo lol.
I think they have gotten only better, Eye of Providence is a masterpiece and Orphans is amazing aswell. I love both Vicky and Alissa, The Agonist and Arch Enemy.
Their music is unique and every record that they have put out is more impressive than most american bands. Alyssa is the shiznit and no one (and i mean NO ONE) can do it like her!!!
No hate, but I love Alissa more in the Agonist than in Arch Enemy. I like both but there are some differences that make me choose the Agonist over Arch Enemy. Her voice is harsher in the Agonist, she used to wear less flashy clothes ( but she's hot either way), music was more intelligent in my opinion. In both bands songs convey a message but in the Agonist she would spit the whole truth in your face, more complex words and also I can't remember most of the lyrics but I'm not mad about it. I feel like it was true Alissa before going very famous. There is something I can't explain about her from before that makes me really appreciate her old work.
This album came together with everyone during on all cylinders. I was so stoked for their next album only to find Alissa left. I tried listening to the album after this but just didn't like it.
You do realize that thrash metal originated during the early 80's and that metalcore didn't really come onto the metal scene until the 90's, right? The type of music that the Agonist are also originated in the 90's as well. We can all thank gothenburg metal (such as Dark Tranquility and At the Gates) and Carcass for melodic death metal.
as usual we find people arguing in the comments over what kind of metal it is which is weird to me, if i had to categorize this id put it in the BossaNova/Jazz fusion category. i mean you gotta admit its pretty boss :P
They're metal...with breakdowns (which are derived from hardcore) as a focal point of the music with pretty much equates to metalcore. Plus, they use the singing/screming type of song structure which in commonplace in metalcore. Also, thrashy metal riffs are usually pretty common in metalcore as well. I stand by my original claim that this IS metalcore.
FINALY, somebody said it. Dude, you are fucking 666% right. Every kind of Music evolves. We live in Metalcore-times and nothing can cahnge it. You may only like it or not. If it's not your kind of music, then keep listetning to Oldschool stuff :d
their exact genre would be Melodic Death Metal / Metalcore (with Gothic influences) you definitely can't say they don't have metalcore elements in their songs and why are you ashamed of that anyway? it's a good thing that they sound like this IMO
metal is evolving, there is no true metal.....metal is all the genres and subgenres that use heavy drumming, singing, powerful melodies and lyrics about society, religion, fantasy etc.
Sounds good, has a solid modern Melodic Death Metal sound mixed with a bit of Gothic/Symphonic Metal and a bit of Metalcore too, which is what The Agonist has always been about. As for all the elitist "metalheads" hating on this, go get a life or go listen to your "tr00" Metal bands
I understand your point but you're saying BFMV/Trivium were before thrash, yet those two are actually metalcore (albeit more thrash influenced metalcore). If we need a timeline (of mainstream metal, not going into subgenres like black metal) it's: proto-metal (e.g. Black Sabbath) -> NWOBHM (Iron Maiden/Motorhead etc) -> thrash (Big 4) -> glam metal (Aerosmith/GnR/KISS) -> grunge (it counts, stuff like Soundgarden and Alice In Chains -> rap & nu metal (Korn, Limp Bizkit, RATM) -> NWOAHM/metalcore
Alissa White Gluz FTw I will continue to support them forever :Bought 1 official Hoodie from them and all their songs every currently created ^^ as well as a few shirts (wished someone from michigan listened to them)Ps: am pretty sure Alissa could give a fuck about her genre and tired of people saying her genre rather than listen then classifying.
@Kalfitegrdan and third: i dont want to get into a genre war, this scene already suffers to much of that. If listening to trivium makes your head hurt than dont listen to them, simple as that. But they are anything but generic or basic. Does the song Shogun have a basic metalcore/generic thrash sound? but go and listen to whatever you consider "metal"
If Metalcore isn't a Metal genre, then what do you call bands like As I Lay Dying? You can not tell me with a clear head that they aren't a Metal band. Metalcore is by definition a blend of Extreme Metal and Hardcore Punk. Hardcore Punk was a huge influence on the entire Metal genre. Not all Metalcore is good, but bands like As I Lay Dying, In This Moment, Avenged Sevenfold, Trivium, The Agonist and etc. are good examples of the subgenre.
with out the birth of hardcore, we would not have all the metal we have today (and with out early metal we wouldnot have hardcore). So its all hand in hand, X-core and X-metal. Just love or hate the music, not the label some1 can put on it.
Sort of. The Crusade is kinda generic, though it is some way catchy in some parts. Shogun features complex textures and deep songwriting. It depends from personal tastes, but technically, Shogun is a moder masterpiece of metal music, and i usually refer to it as the new Master of puppets. I love Trivium and The Agonist too; anyway, you can't talk about thrash or melodeath about them, so i agree with you on this
This is an underrated masterpiece
Insomniatic Panophobia ikr whats wrong with u ppl
I agree. This is amazing! I guess we're the only ones with good taste 😎
Ya rip agonist. I don't know if we'll ever get another album like this.
2022 and I think the same. This an underrated outstanding masterpiece
I just wonder, why everyone is hating this amazing voice, the voice is not common, so if you hear The Agonist for the first time, you may find it strange, but listen to few more songs and you will grow to it and love it :)

Well, I fell I love at first sound!
I wonder why so many people who clearly don't like this genre of music still bother to watch/listen videos from Century Media. You don't see me lurking in the rap section of youtube saying it's crap music.
thanks - playing on air now on CKCU-FM - in honour of their concert w/ Kittie at Maverick's this evening! busy crazy night - Anvil is also playing!
Best The Agonist Guitar Solo in this track.
I think his point is that metal is a genre that encompasses loads of different styles. So saying "true" metal is the same as calling something a "true" horror film. Just pretentious people say things like true metal.
Seeing this in my sub box brought a tiny tear to my eye. So many memories.. Such an amazing band.
I think they have gotten only better, Eye of Providence is a masterpiece and Orphans is amazing aswell.
I love both Vicky and Alissa, The Agonist and Arch Enemy.
the solo at the end makes this worth it
i just bought this album. its awesome. everyone should support this band
Cant wait
guys chill out, they are what they are, just enjoy the music.
Impatiently waiting on preorder now.
So true!
Nick how can you not like this goddess's singing :(
i don't care what type of band the agonist is. i just enjoy their music.
Amazing song, one of the best TA during Alissa era. I recommend listening to later The Agonist aswell, Eye of Providence is a masterpiece aswell.
te amo canción espectacular, hace años que no te escuchaba.
Their music is unique and every record that they have put out is more impressive than most american bands. Alyssa is the shiznit and no one (and i mean NO ONE) can do it like her!!!
Sounds great!
metal will never die, hop and rap are just for fashion and social acceptance.....
can't wait for the new album... already the two songs from the previous EP sounded awesome =)
Bravo The Agonist! Vicky and Alissa of Arch Enemy faces of angels voices of demons solo bass gutars and drums - profy!
kind of erratic switching between screaming and singing works so well to highlight both, I'm actually looking forward to this album now.
2:46 This sounds awesome!
Kind of Heaven shall burn-ish vocals in this track.
I love it.
Buying album right away
One word...Awesome!
Oh, they have got level up!
AWWW YEAH!
realy good song!
frikin awesome hellyeah
nice!
Haven't listened to these dudes in fucking ages!
I liked more the vocalist in this musical genre than in Arch enemy :( !! he misses the real band THE AGONIST !!!
My old band Scars Of Hatred did a show with them they were damn awsome !!!!!
No hate, but I love Alissa more in the Agonist than in Arch Enemy. I like both but there are some differences that make me choose the Agonist over Arch Enemy. Metalcore fits her talent so much more than Arch Enemy
This album came together with everyone during on all cylinders. I was so stoked for their next album only to find Alissa left. I tried listening to the album after this but just didn't like it.
this ist the law agonist forever
The agonist kick ass :D
Yes!!
Damn this is good! I can't get enough!
(Edit) and 45 people missed the like button... **sigh**
Ладно, ребята, большое спасибо.
Okay, guys, thank you very much.

10 years laternit's still one of the heaviest songs mentioning swans and dolphins.
Love it d:
epic...that is all
Don't fucking care what genre it is. I just put everything under rock on my ipod and call it a fucking day. Damn
Combos!! !

Σπέρνει! [literally: It sows / metaphorically: it kicks ass!!]
That, what you said my friend, is a true story *holds cup up*

Idc I will always adore the agonist xD
as usual we find people arguing in the comments over what kind of metal it is which is weird to me, if i had to categorize this id put it in the BossaNova/Jazz fusion category. i mean you gotta admit its pretty boss :P

temazo!
Wow, it's a similar style to Deadlock, and Deadlock is fucking epic. This is an evolution of metal, not just generic shit.
lawl, they live in Canada and it comes out a day later there than here
This song is so good why the heck would they cut it short. Where’s the original 8 minute version ?
2:24 Sleep Walking Helicopter
This is actually melodeath/metalcore kid, keep your opinion for yourself.
Fuck Yeah!!! I've waited soooo long for a new album.
Metalcore at lest it use to be but from what i heard from fever it sound like there going for a more rock forme now
FINALY, somebody said it. Dude, you are fucking 666% right. Every kind of Music evolves. We live in Metalcore-times and nothing can cahnge it. You may only like it or not. If it's not your kind of music, then keep listetning to Oldschool stuff :d

sick song!
so fucking awesome!!!
This new song from 'The Agonist' does not give me the same 'hell yeah!'-feeling as i had with their previous work.
Un orgasmo en mis oidos
love it!
Cuando the agonist todavía era the agonist ... ☹️
RIP
in a mature manner and non biased what is BFMVs genre?
canada tends to breed musical succses, they have a decent folowing now but i think the new album will make it much larger
A new The Agonist album? HELL YEAH! The song is a lil bit boring, but hey, it's a single, that means the rest of the album will be mindblowing!
her cleans are lacking something other than that its great too see them back
damn it,the beat is bad ass . XD!
metal is evolving, there is no true metal.....metal is all the genres and subgenres that use heavy drumming, singing, powerful melodies and lyrics about society, religion, fantasy etc.
Change anything?
como los amo x la ctm :'D
Where's the ending part? Damn

Yeah You're Probably Right.

Not bad
fucking awesome !!
they are from canada
U sing hardcore the man

listen to the Crusade and Shogun my friend. If your head still hurts than something is wrong with you:D

god I love her as a vocalist, although I hate clean female vocals. but she's a special case, the whole band is
with out the birth of hardcore, we would not have all the metal we have today (and with out early metal we wouldnot have hardcore). So its all hand in hand, X-core and X-metal.

metalcore = metal
metalcore i'd say.
Fucking sick!

I have never heard this band before but it's pretty sick and I kinda like the female vocals even though I'm usually not a fan
