  • The Bauer 950x Goalie Mask is mechanically assembled, meaning they don't glue in the padding. I wanted to take mine apart to clean the padding and also replace the cage. In this video I'll disassemble the entire helmet...PLUS I'll talk about the safety of the cat-eye cage.
    Moose was out getting his hair done so he doesn't appear in this one.
    Merry Christmas Hockey Friends!

    This was a great video Morgan! Really happy to see you made a new video. It's neat to see how the newer masks have updated designs, foam inserts, and mounting hardware. I hope to do a video soon on a similar topic. Thanks for the cool video Morgan!
    Really enjoyed it.

      Yeah thanks Jack. I was really impressed with Bauer's new padding and the canvas-like material they use to secure the bolts to the padding. Much better than the brittle plastic on my od NME7. But I'm surprised they haven't designed a stronger solution for the screw/bolt attachment. If a screw doesn't turn easily the current design isn't good. Looking forward to your video Jack!

    Great to see a new Ice Ice Goalie video! Love the cheater cage. Looks pretty good on your mask. I’d be interested in knowing what you think about it after using it in a game.

      Thanks Jarrod! I used it last night for the first time. I barely noticed a difference when I first put it on, and once the game started I forgot it was there. Visibility is fine. I'm happy I made the swap.

    Man, Chewie is way more mellow in person! I love the way the padding comes out of the new masks. I had a Van Velden back in the 90's, and there was no way to get the foam out to clean around it.
    I really hope you enjoy the new cage. It reminds me of the one Mike Liut used to wear. I think cat eye cages can be a bit overrated. When I was in high school, I got a hacksaw and cut down an HM30 and put it on my mask. It was great, but I always worried about getting a stick blade or butt end through it. When I got to University, we weren't allowed to use cat eyes, so I just went back to the original grid cage that came with the mask. In all honesty, I kind of liked it better.
    Out of curiosity, what kind of guitar was that in the background? Best wishes to you and yours for a wonderful Holiday season and a fantastic 2022!

      Hi Alrightest! Chewie just seemed mellow because he was focused on the save. I think I agree about the cat eye. I tried the new cage out and I can see fine. The added protection gives me more confidence too. And that brown guitar is a Takamine G-Series. I'm a beginner guitarist just hacking away at the strings. There's a purple Luna guitar down there too that we bought for my daughter. She was getting good and then just stopped playing sadly. All the best to you my friend, thanks for watching.

      @@iceicegoalie-OG I'm glad you started playing, man! Takamines really are lovely guitars. There's nothing better than the rush of learning a new song or lick and feeling yourself improve :) It's too bad about your daughter. I've been through that, too. Sometimes it's lack of inspiration or just a feeling of reaching a plateau. Hopefully she'll find her muse and start playing again. Sometimes it's as simple as trying new picks or strings that makes playing more comfortable.
      Hope Santa treats you all well :)

    • @iceicegoalie-OG
      @iceicegoalie-OG  2 года назад

      To make the paint durable it has to be powder coated. I just bought a whole new cage that came powder coated from GoalieParts.com
      They have tons of colors to choose from and cages to fit most helmets.

      Hahaha, yeah the video needed something to liven it up. I was afraid just unscrewing bolts would not be very entertaining. I couldn't believe there was no helmet disassembly videos out there! Maybe every goalie but me already knows how to take their mask apart and this really wasn't even necessary.

    My kid has a Victory V4? mask and a crack formed right by one of the snaps so they are sending me a new shell. We will see if the pads come out as easily as the Bauer!

    • @iceicegoalie-OG
      @iceicegoalie-OG  2 года назад

      As long as they are not glued in (which I think is rare with newer helmets) it's probably very similar. I'm curious if they use a better screw/bolt design on that helmet.

    • @12daasdf
      @12daasdf 2 года назад +1

      @@iceicegoalie-OG so the shell had pads glued in. Which is fine in the sense that I didn’t need to do anything other than move the cage and the back/straps over. The higher end adult models may have removable pads

      @@12daasdf Oh sorry it's glued in there. My first helmet was that way too. Makes it much tougher to really clean. As your youngster gets older and the shots get faster go with the best bucket you're willing to pay for. The better the helmet, the less ringing in the ears you get from impacts to the noodle.
