Flip A Heavy Mattress By Yourself

  • How to flip a heavy mattress with only one person. My king size pillow top mattress weighs over 120lbs from Original Mattress Factory and I don't have enough headroom to stand it up and flip it over. My technique is to slide the mattress down at least half way and bend the bottom half upwards and over so that the bottom (which was the top) kicks out. It is now a one person job that takes less than a minute. Note: your mattress needs to be able to bend like this without forcing it so you don't damage the mattress. I have heard that some mattress don't naturally bend the way mine does. Some manufacturers put in this bending ability to allow it to move through tight corners and hallways when moving the mattress. But when it works, it works nicely.

My husband put the mattress wrong side up… Didn’t realize it till he went to hospice care. Mine was super heavy california king memory form mattress😅 Does not fold neither but used your theory and pulled as much as I can and pretentious fold first… It sprung up and stood up to celling as a holder now(I figured a length of california king is about the same to ceiling!) Now slide it little by little to the edge of bed frame and push it down. Bingo! I am 5’3” average size asian 60 yr old woman, and mattress should be 130 pounds or more but could flip it by myself. Thank you for the idea😊

Okay...that might work for a man with upper body strength, but I'm 5'2 and my mattress is a simple full size but it won't fold UNLESS I wrangle it out onto the floor...out of the high head and foot board. I tried standing on box springs and attempting the fold but ended up ass over the end of the foot board on a cast iron bed *OOCH*...but problem is lifting the dang thing back onto the bed. HAHA! I label tops and bottoms...A...B...C...and D cause mattress likes to flip itself back to where it was to begin with...for some odd reason after removing it from the bed onto the floor on it's sides.

Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of having a mattress that will fold in half. It's very heavy and solid. I wish it was that easy!

Unfortunately not all mattresses are built to bend in the middle.

  • @lesleyrelph4531

Not suitable for all mattresses, you can damage the springs on some models.

True Lesley. Not all mattresses have this level of flexibility. To her point, don't force or bend your mattress. But when it works, it works nicely without much effort.

I have to flip my mattress on my own but some videos say to rotate and then flip but I think it’s difficult for me to do both. Is it necessary to also rotate the mattress if I do your method? I don’t know why some videos say to do both .. Thank you!

Hi, I am not an expert but flipping addresses top/bottom wear, and rotating addresses left/right side wear. I heard that you alternate those options. Again, I'm not an expert but that's what I do every six months to maintain even wear. Hope that helps.

This is totally doable except i can't even slide my layla mattress, it is soooo heavy. Dunno what I'm going to do... 😭 edit to add: just looked it up, it weighs 103 lbs
