    I have gotten a couple questions on practice tests regarding the connection between gynecomastia and spider angiomas. Kind of odd, but worth mentioning. (Hyperestrogenism in Chronic Alcholism)

      I’m a basic year student and this was mentioned in our PBL case this week, the pt had cirrhosis as well so I linked it to that liver dysfunction caused hyperestrogenism that lead to vasodilation

    Metronidazole prevents the breakdown of acetaldehyde causing projectile vomiting if alcohol is consumed. It seems a bit mean to give it to students backpacking round SE Asia then lol.

    Quick question: @25:50, you talked about how the longer-acting benzodiazepines were the preferred treatment for alcohol withdraw, but isn't oxazepam more known to be shorter-acting? Thanks and let me know.

    • @DirtyMedicine
      @DirtyMedicine  4 года назад +4

      oxazepam is short acting but diazepam and clonazepam are longer. any benzo can technically be used

    I don't get it, agonist is an excitator, antagonist is an inhibitor so why you are saying GABA agonism means inhibits?

    • @DirtyMedicine
      @DirtyMedicine  4 года назад +2

      Because the function of gaba is INHIBITORY. When you agonize a receptor whose chief role is to inhibit the central nervous system, then even though you're agonizing the receptor you're inhibiting the CNS.

    • @viciu080
      @viciu080 4 года назад

      @@DirtyMedicine I know what you meant, but you didn't say inhibits CNS, from how you said it I would assume alcohol inhibits GABA receptors which of course is not true cause it excite them causing CNS depression. Anyway your videos are great I really appreciate all the work you put in them
