Been using this style rig for years for crappie and perch fishing. Thanks to your video that shows how you tie that knot I have started using that knot and finds it hold better than the knot I had been using. And the bait I go to most oddly is the Koolaid chicken it even catches Blue crabs
Stinky, old, rotten bait is good. Also matching what is dead or using it because that's what they are eating is smart. I though I was the only one who knows Bill Dance and watched all his videos. I'm 66.

I’m a former Iowa science teacher, now retired. If you like to eat Salmon I’ve got a boat just for that in a marina on Lake Michigan. The catfishing on Pleasant Creek State near Cedar Rapids is pretty good too. It’s nearby my house. I’m sure we could share some stories while trolling for some kings.
Cool video as always man. Stinky bait sometimes is the trick. I seem to do well with bait I "forgot" to take out of the bed of my truck. Being lazy sometimes pays off.
Fishermen are a strange breed, we tell you how bad something smells then proceed to show you how bad it smells! Awesome stuff!
We had an old rock quarry across from our house when I lived at home my Dad and I were down there all the time fishing just a short walk through the woods always fun. Lots of Fish and clear water. This is me when I fish I sit down and just relax and enjoy at least now with warmer weather and the time change it's getting closer for me to get back out, most likely next month.
At least it was not a 90 degree day and the sun warming up that nice bait you were using. Getting it all soft and mushy.

Sometimes you just have to take a whiff. That's River Certified behavior. Loved the video. I'm 0 for 2 on cats since ice out here in northeast Ohio in reservoirs. Two weeks until I get down to the Ohio River to really get after them.

When you first said you had rotten bait I swore you had some of Denny’s socks from last years fishing! Lol
I've always found the fresher the cutbait the better, the more rotten it is the more turtles and less cats you catch. I know ya gotta use what ya got, but I think catfish have more of a refined palette than we give them credit for lol. I just got back from some pre spawn crappie fishing at Grand lake, headed back tomorrow. Keep up the great work Spencer.

Great video kind of catfish and I love doing! I Target lots of channel cats as well so I use a lot of punch bait and of course it's very smelly so when you were talking about the soaps I would like to let you guys know try just good old-fashioned' Lava soap'I always have a bar in my tackle bag gets all the fishy smell and bait smell right off your hands every time 👍👍

Those were some nice cats brother. I personally use windex with ammonia in it to get smells off my hands, try it sometime and see if it works for you.

I left out some chicken liver in the bed of my truck for about 3 days in the Tx heat,and I had to throw it a way because it called the vultures in and smelled like a corpse lol.
Put a hook in it! Vultures taste like chicken 🍗

Fishing is easy. You just need experience and the right lake or body of water. I use a extendable pole 13 foot and have been catching alot of fish with it even on slow days. I out fish people bobber fishing. When I'm cat fishing I like to go at night as that is the best time for them. Red Rock, Rathbun, Brushy Creek or Saylorville are great places to fish.

The winters here in Iowa are tough, we deal with the bad weather it's waiting to go cat fishing that kills us.
we had a lake this winter that was wackin and stackin the kitties all winter long in 10 yrs of icefishing ive only caught a few but this lake we probably caught close to 100 cats through the ice even everyone else that fished it cats and crappies all winter long it was rather amazing

Solid eater sized channels. Wouldn't really call them chunky tho. We avg 10lb channels on Champlain. Lots in the teens, some 20lbs+, no blues or flatheads though.
Salmon are the best tasting fish in any waters my friend; at least in my opinion.😉
