Btw i just want to give this random comment about Jaemin tbh. There are no nct guides that properly shows Jaemin. He is the literal embodiment of love. Scouted while volunteering and continued to do charity works and attend unicef meetings even after debut. He often talks about his love for his mom and grandmother and always reiterate their teachings to him. He has a big amount of love and care towards other members and his act of kindness are always silent and subtle. He has a big amount of love and consideration for the fans. He learnt photography for the fans and often talks about how grateful he is towards NCTzens. Jaemin is most likely the best cook in nct dream too. Anyways, just wanted to add this here. Kinda like an appreciation post.

The dreamies have been training since they were actual children like before puberty so they’re like all very well rounded at everything since it’s easier to learn things when you’re younger and all that. That’s why they’re all amazing like main dancers material dancers.
Jeno and Jaemin started out as my co-biases, but after getting to know all their personalities, Renjun quickly took over. He really seems like he's an old soul w/ a genuinely sweet nature/temper... however, that's not to say he won't get absolutely savage when he has to because in Dream they clown each other 24/7 and it's kill or be killed. 😂
i'd say Renjun is a real person who acts like Huang Renjun. He just doesn't sugarcoat everything. I feel like he's the Kyungsoo of EXO and you're right. he's an old soul who would prefer less conflicts and dramas, and actually is a big laugher lol
Honestly I think sm had the graduation concept because they thought it would be a good way to introduce the younger members before splitting them off into other units, but they didn’t expect them to gain as much popularity as they have over the years, which is why everyone wanted them to remain as a fixed unit
HAHA- Lucas was added in the NCT Dream guide because Lucas wanted to join Dream before he debuted in WAYV. He’s not an official member though, he just performed with them. :)
I love this guide but you'll need to watch a little more content to know about some members better, especially Jaemin, Renjun and Chenle. Most guides don't show Jaemin I his full essence. He is a very talented idol and guides hardly talk about his stage presence. He had to take a hiatus from dream right after he debuted due to serious health concerns. But when he came back, it didn't take him long to assume centre positions in many NCT songs. Also, he's not only chaotic but also very Zen at the same time. Also, someone mentioned his casting story and I find that very endearing. As of now, Jasmin takes the centre stage very often in most Dream songs. He is very loved among fans and non-fans. He's that kind of chilled laid-back, loving guy who acts crazy on caffeine. And, we shouldn't limit his talent to only his official position. It takes a lot to be THAT charismatic on stage. He has caught your eyes many times so you know what I mean. Renjun is very very very under appreciated when it comes to talent. Yes, fans acknowledge his skills to a certain level and everyone loves his savage persona. But, he is one of the main vocalists in all of NCT as well. He hasn't gotten much opportunity to show his full potential but he will soon. His bandmates always praise him for his vocal technique. WayV's main vocalists Xiaojun is especially very often seen praising Renjun's vocal talent. I am so happy that this guide included his dancing skills, which is totally looked over sadly. Chenle's child stardom was toned down here. He had actual full capacity concerts. He didn't really need SM. He could have easily become a star in his own way. But SM needed him. This just goes on to show just how much star potential he has. His vocals are also MAD under appreciated. I would recommend you to watch some of his fetes days performances in China. He has been THAT prodigal kid since forever.

I'll be adding another facts about them since that guide just focused on their personality. *Mark* is actually an *all rounder* / *ace* . He is has a very good vocals too. He grew up in a family who serves in church where his parents sings and plays piano and guitar. *Renjun* is an ace too. He was actually auditioned as a Dancer but he debuted as a Main Vocalist (his vocal is insane tho) *Jaemin* is actually known as a Center And Visual (He is also a Center in NCT as a whole along with Jaehyun and Taeyong, Ten and Lucas) He is a great rapper, and great dancer. He also participates in writing songs for their We Boom album. I would like to add he was CASTED in the street while doing a voluntary work. Up until now, he still doing / participating on a voluntary work (He is also a UNICEF Korea Ambassador if I'm not mistaken) *Jeno* is actually the NCT Dream's Visual too. He is an excellent rapper and Dancer. He used to be a child commercial model and he was casted bcs of it. Jeno also participates in writing the song for their album along with Mark, Jaemin and Jisung. *Haechan* is actually an SM's Pick (Lee Soo Man, the man who founded SM.) It is said the LSM's favourite voice is Haechan, he is his personal pick. Haechan is also a Main Dancer material. His body control, movement and fluidity is INSANE. *Chenle* , like what you said, his voice are very clear that HE CARRIES the choruses of their song everytime they sing live. Even if it is unnecessary, his voice are still clear and loud despite dancing a hard choreo. He is also the NCT Dream's muse. He used to attract a lot of new fans on chewing gum era because of how cute he is. Chenle has been active in the music/entertainment industry since he was young. He is a child actor and a child performer (He is the youngest perfomer who ever performed in the Golden Hall of Vienna with a solo performance at age of 9) He has also a predebut albums too. (He's a veteran idol at this point) Lastly, *Jisung* . Jisung is acknowledged as one of the best main dancer despite his age. He is being put in the line of Great Dancers of all time along with KAI and TAEMIN. He is also one od the main dancer in NCT as a *WHOLE* . He participates in writing too. Like Chenle and Jeno, Jisung started his career at his young age. He was part of a child program television, and also a kid's dance crew. Seriously the biggest bunch of EXO-Ls/Shawols out there. The percentage of their clips that show one or multiple members singing an EXO song is huge. Most of the Dreamies joined SM around 2012/2013 so they were kinda raised on EXO (as well as SuJu and Shinee) and have been covering their songs and dances forever... it's frankly adorable.

OMG I got so excited when I saw this notification. Lucas is an honorary Dream member because he wanted to be in Dream. When he learned that he was going to debut in NCT, he assumed he'd be added to Dream because he was the same age as Mark. But by the time his debut came around, it was 2018 meaning he technically would've had to graduate that year as well, plus he was a lot taller than the rest of Dream. Yeah, I think when SM Entertainment initally planned NCT out as a group, I think they probably had planned it to be a bigger project with more units and members added more frequently. That's just my thoery, but I think the whole idea became a bit more complicated than it looked on paper. I mean, the concept of NCT Dream made sense, keeping the group "young" meant they could keep the younger concept for them, which sets them apart from the rest of NCT. Plus it would've been a great group to introduce new members through. But ultimately, plans changed. The NCT Dream line up is pretty solid with the original 7 members and I don't think SM even anticipated how much fans liked them. So I'm glad they listened and didn't end up separating them. Also, I'd say, if you have time and you want to get to know Dream better, I'd say even the original NCT Dream Subpar guide is still pretty good minus the whole graduation thing. Softjun's guides are always well edited and entertaining to watch. They may be a few years old but the information is mostly still good and she gives a nice blend of factual info and funny trivia for each member.

Don’t worry about the time it takes to know faces and names. They are a group with 23 members after all. I became an nctizen right before the empathy era when jungwoo and Lucas joined. My first nct “experience” was with cherry bomb. It was so different than anything I had heard previously I felt like I had to stan. I’ll tell you what helped me. May seem silly but, I would watch any and all of the units’ videos and name the members out loud when a different member popped up. After a couple months I got it and all I had to do from there was learn new members that came along. You’ll get there! New subscriber btw. Love your nct content!!
Ahh the dreamies! They deserve the world and they've worked so hard and sacrificed so much of their childhood! These boys are so well-rounded and talented it's crazy. Chenle's history as a performer dates back to way before he joined SM, like he had a whole album as a kid too, his voice is super impressive and gorgeous and deserves more praise. Haechan and Jeno are my main Dream biases, they're both killer dancers as well! Jisung as a dancer too is wild, he even did a dance show with Taemin and Eunhyuk from Suju, he's been on hiatus from dancing the last few months due to a knee injury, but he'll be dancing again in Hot Sauce and I'm hoping we get a dance break for him! About Lucas joining Dream, it's because before he debuted in 2018, he thought he might've been put in Dream because he's the same age as Mark so he fit the age requirement and yeah he does also love their songs lol Can't wait for guides to the other units too!

the chemistry they have as a group is one of the best i've ever ever encountered, just so damn organic, i mean they were literally raised together locked up in the sm basement so 😅 but still, i think it had a benefitial aspect in that they all retain a weirdness to themselves that i worry would've gotten stomped down out in society :s it low-key feels impossible to be a solo stan when it comes to them, imo, they are just so thoroughly entangled, my fave fanmade vid for them is about how their life is a sitcom, the way in which they're funny is so hard to capture cause they're, for lack of a better term, an ensamble (even evil sment recognised separating them would be a stupid idea) confession time they got me into the group in general, them their personalities i mean, i only knew some nct songs casually but i wasnt ready for an emotional committment, but their fandom is all over, the amount of 2nd hand info about their dynamics in my timeline made me feel like i knew them and when i gave in and went in for some 1st-hand research they had me in like 10mins, i've been around for aprox a decade and stanned all sorts of groups from successful to disbanded to forgotten, i mean it when i say what they have is special. (also lol how casual skipping the emotional marriage jeno and jaemin got going on lmao)
My first bias was Jeno but when i get to know all the dream members I fell inlove with Rejun. The kid is just so lovable, witty and of course talented.

it's cool you're discovering dream! they really are gems. I knew about dream in 2017 and I couldn't get over how young they were and couldn't get into them at all. through nct2018 I learned more about them and how precious and talented they are. now currently I have pre-ordered every version of their new album 🤡 also I hated the graduation idea and the videos of them crying about mark leaving and their future as dream lit up every maternal bone in my body. I was ready to fight the entirety of sm entertainment.
the point of the graduation system was to add new members through nct dream, but fans were rioting against the concept.. sm didn't want new members to be hated so they debuted members who's ages fit the dream concept in other units (yangyang in wayv, sungchan and shotaro later in nct u/2020). also the graduation concept was removed after the pandemic hit and sm decided to debut smngg (later known as aespa) in 2020 instead of 2021 as planned so that's also a thing to consider when asking why was the concept abandoned. the lack of acceptance from fans and the 7dream campaign were probably the major reason, sm saw a more profitable idea which was capitalizing on the love fans have for 7dream.
I'd definitely recommend any vocal compilation of A.C.E ! They're a bit older than most groups from their generation, and they get a lot of recognition from indie korean artists
Jisung is my bias is Dream, i absolutely LOVE his singing voice.. its deep and kinds raspy as well. Can you please check out some more Stray Kids too? I think you would really like their Hellevator, Voices(performance video), My Pace, and Levanter(more vocal). Renjun is my bias because of his vocals and personality, but to be honest Haechan has a very very special place in my heart in NCT as a whole. you can't help but love Haechan as a seasonie, I think.
alright buckle up everyone this is going to be LONG, and i mean, LONG, bcs let’s fucking go show off my dreamie expertise. mark was the first to join sm in 2011 and was known as a sort of gem amongst the trainees. he was originally cast as a vocalist but, well- with determination and passion such as his it’s really no wonder that when he debuted, he quickly got dubbed as hope for sm’s rappers. in 2013, the next four dreamies joined: jeno and jaemin, who had been seatmates in school and became friends both got accepted, jaemin was actually scouted while doing charity work, and with haechan who passed auditions the same year, 3/4 of the dreamies 00 line were already in sm. the same year, jisung, barely 11 at the time, entered the company and began training. sm has (or, had, as it’s rather inactive right now) a predebut project called smrookies. all of red velvet minus yeri were introduced and promoted through this program, and pretty much all of nct were part of smrookies at some point or the other. i believe their smrookie promotions started around 2014/2015, and alongside taeyong and seulgi, jeno was one of the first trainees ever revealed to the public. this line up of the dreamies- mark, jeno, haechan, jaemin and jisung took part in events and small performances, and also became part of the mickeymouse club alongside sm female trainees, performing disney songs on the show, meeting with seniors from sm and playing games. so these boys were promoted together HEAVILY, them debuting together was not a speculation, it was a fact. sm even went as far as calling them future tvxq, which, if you know tvxqs legacy, tells you all you need to know about the expectations for dream. in 2015, renjun joined sm. he grew up along the border to north korea, and afaik his mother has korean heritage so he spoke korean but it was still no walk in the park. he never became part of the smrookie program, but yeah- he was around for a long time too. chenle was last to join, and when i say last, i mean LAST because my son was in sm 2 months prior to debuting. ‘but how?’ you may ask. WELL. zhong chenle, child prodigy in the flesh, was (as mentioned) part of several chinese audition programs predebut, he acted small roles, he held SOLO concerts, he performed at the vienna new year concert- our boy was destined for the industry. him choosing to abandon his safe career in china to start from 0 in korea is a miracle for nctzens more than it was a safe choice for him. (fun fact: chenle and jisung had actually MET prior to joining sm, by complete chance and coincidence on a tv show where chenle sang with two other boys and jisung performed dance. when chenle joined the company, jisung quickly became close to him even though there was a language barrier, so close they gave up on the formality so that they can both use informal speech even though chenle is born 01 while jisung was born a year later) all of them, minus mark, stopped attending school and dropped out to focus on training. these kids have nobody but each other. in 2018, jisung joined two dance shows, the 2nd called dancing high strictly for teenage participants. he opened up there about being lonely outside of dream and only having them to rely on. jaemin said much the same in another solo variety schedule: he had no school friends to speak of, no people who weren’t in the industry. he sacrificed normalcy, the chance to graduate, to make friends, to idle around to join sm. there was dream, and only dream. so what i’m trying to say is: these kids have HISTORY. they were a well oiled machine since almost childhood, there was no awkwardness between them, they were just kids growing up together, debuting together. their early 2018 comeback ‘go’ marked the FIRST TIME since debut they all were back together because jaemin had a serious back condition that kept him out of promotions for the past two years. however... 2018 marked the year mark came of age. so, with the graduation concept back then... mark was the first (and only, thank the heavens) member to graduate in 2018 after a last (our 3rd. only three times) ot7 comeback with we go up. they held a mini concert and it was.... devastating. the dreamies were crying pretty much half the show, the fans couldn’t stop sobbing from start to finish, they even wrote a graduation song for mark that includes honestly HEARTBREAKING lyrics such as: *we will worry about each other like always don’t forget we are in touch always in the same time, the same place, we were always together* *even if we’re on the same boat, we are on a different ocean but I will continue to always be the lighthouse you can rely on this is fate and that’s a fact* *now that time passed, you were so young but you were so big that side of you gives me strength* it was nonstop pain for us essentially especially because throughout 2019 sm would NOT give us a fucking statement about what was going to happen. technically, four members (jeno, haechan, jaemin and renjun) were set to graduate, but aside from haechan none of them had another unit to promote with. it was chaos, the dreamies themselves had No clue what was going on. there’s lots of footage of their dream show during that time where haechan said “today of all days, i miss mark the most” and all the members broke down crying and sobbing. it was heavy, we were helpless as fans and no matter how many times we asked for clarification we got nothing. until sm suddenly decided to give us an update that was essentially saying ‘yeah uhhhhh soooo let’s pretend this concept doesn’t exist dreamies stay as ot6 ok? ok.’ 2019 passed by with only one comeback (boom) and we were starting to get a bit pissed off. dream is, all things considered... the most successful nct unit. 1st 1st win across all units. 1st daesang. best sellers with every new album, named part of time’s most influential teens of 2018, the list goes ON. and yet, their discography includes only their debut single, another single in 2017 followed by a mini, another single and mini in 2018 and one mini each in 2019 and 2020. not one full album (THIS IS THANKFULLY ABOUT TO CHANGE NOW!!) compared to 127s 2 (3 if japanese included), even wayv has one. promotions constantly cut short so haechan and mark could go back to 127 regularly, no proper variety show until recently... but! of course, shortly before last years riding comeback, sm does what fans had been begging, protesting, emailing, boycotting two years for: MARK REJOINS DREAM!!! and now, nearly a YEAR later we’re finally seeing the fruits of that. and that, essentially, is where nct dreams history ends. 5 years, 1 full album on the way, 4 mini albums, several singles, two collabs, a few sm stations i haven’t mentioned and tons and tons of wasted potential, cut promotions and being pushed aside by sm. but, in my three years of stanning dream, i haven’t regretted a single day. i have given up on many groups for a variety of reasons, but no matter how bad the company, how annoying the fans, how little the promotions, i always, always came to back to dream.
Yes, you're right they changed the concept of graduation because all the rest of the members were 20 years old and if they follow the graduation concept they have to leave the band and there would be only 2 of them left Chenle and Jisung, so they changed the concept
SM did think it through, they were originally gonna add new members as the old members graduated (so the guide is wrong when it says "it would've left Dream as a 2 member group"), and graduated members would be added to new units. However, of course fans got attached to the original dream and tbh it's pretty upsetting to watch a group of young teens who've been training as idols together since like, 12 years old, to be split up.

@@zethyne yes, because by the time they reach their 10th anniv, 2026, Jeno, Haechan, and Jaemin, will be 27 y/o (korean age) and if they want to enlist to the maximum age limit for korean military service , they would enlist when they’re 28 years old. So yeah, that’s how amazing it is.

NCT Dream isn't SM's first attempt at the graduation concept, but like how it was with Super Junior, the fans preferred the original line up to permanently stay together, and so SM scrapped it again.
Lucas is the same age as Mark so, age-wise he's technically qualified to join Dream. It's just that, as he had said, it would be like placing a tree among tiny flowers 😂

Btw i just want to give this random comment about Jaemin tbh. There are no nct guides that properly shows Jaemin. He is the literal embodiment of love. Scouted while volunteering and continued to do charity works and attend unicef meetings even after debut. He often talks about his love for his mom and grandmother and always reiterate their teachings to him. He has a big amount of love and care towards other members and his act of kindness are always silent and subtle. He has a big amount of love and consideration for the fans. He learnt photography for the fans and often talks about how grateful he is towards NCTzens. Jaemin is most likely the best cook in nct dream too. Anyways, just wanted to add this here. Kinda like an appreciation post.

The dreamies have been training since they were actual children like before puberty so they’re like all very well rounded at everything since it’s easier to learn things when you’re younger and all that. That’s why they’re all amazing like main dancers material dancers.
Jeno and Jaemin started out as my co-biases, but after getting to know all their personalities, Renjun quickly took over. He really seems like he's an old soul w/ a genuinely sweet nature/temper... however, that's not to say he won't get absolutely savage when he has to because in Dream they clown each other 24/7 and it's kill or be killed. 😂
i'd say Renjun is a real person who acts like Huang Renjun. He just doesn't sugarcoat everything. I feel like he's the Kyungsoo of EXO

Honestly I think sm had the graduation concept because they thought it would be a good way to introduce the younger members before splitting them off into other units, but they didn’t expect them to gain as much popularity as they have over the years, which is why everyone wanted them to remain as a fixed unit
Chenle released an album, had a fan signing event and even had his own solo concert before he came to Korea & debuted in NCT Dream
HAHA- Lucas was added in the NCT Dream guide because Lucas wanted to join Dream before he debuted in WAYV. He’s not an official member though, he just performed with them. :)
I love this guide but you'll need to watch a little more content to know about some members better, especially Jaemin, Renjun and Chenle. Most guides don't show Jaemin I his full essence. He is a very talented idol and guides hardly talk about his stage presence. He had to take a hiatus from dream right after he debuted due to serious health concerns. But when he came back, it didn't take him long to assume centre positions in many NCT songs. Also, he's not only chaotic but also very Zen at the same time. Also, someone mentioned his casting story and I find that very endearing. As of now, Jasmin takes the centre stage very often in most Dream songs. He is very loved among fans and non-fans. He's that kind of chilled laid-back, loving guy who acts crazy on caffeine. And, we shouldn't limit his talent to only his official position. It takes a lot to be THAT charismatic on stage. He has caught your eyes many times so you know what I mean.
Renjun is very very very under appreciated when it comes to talent. Yes, fans acknowledge his skills to a certain level and everyone loves his savage persona. But, he is one of the main vocalists in all of NCT as well. He hasn't gotten much opportunity to show his full potential but he will soon. His bandmates always praise him for his vocal technique. WayV's main vocalists Xiaojun is especially very often seen praising Renjun's vocal talent. I am so happy that this guide included his dancing skills, which is totally looked over sadly.
Chenle's child stardom was toned down here. He had actual full capacity concerts. He didn't really need SM. He could have easily become a star in his own way. But SM needed him. This just goes on to show just how much star potential he has. His vocals are also MAD under appreciated. I would recommend you to watch some of his fetes days performances in China. He has been THAT prodigal kid since forever.

*Mark* is actually an *all rounder* / *ace* . He is has a very good vocals too. He grew up in a family who serves in church where his parents sings and plays piano and guitar.
*Renjun* is an ace too. He was actually auditioned as a Dancer but he debuted as a Main Vocalist (his vocal is insane tho)
*Jaemin* is actually known as a Center And Visual (He is also a Center in NCT as a whole along with Jaehyun and Taeyong, Ten and Lucas) He is a great rapper, and great dancer. He also participates in writing songs for their We Boom album. I would like to add he was CASTED in the street while doing a voluntary work. Up until now, he still doing / participating on a voluntary work (He is also a UNICEF Korea Ambassador if I'm not mistaken)
*Jeno* is actually the NCT Dream's Visual too. He is an excellent rapper and Dancer. He used to be a child commercial model and he was casted bcs of it. Jeno also participates in writing the song for their album along with Mark, Jaemin and Jisung.
*Haechan* is actually an SM's Pick (Lee Soo Man, the man who founded SM.) It is said the LSM's favourite voice is Haechan, he is his personal pick. Haechan is also a Main Dancer material. His body control, movement and fluidity is INSANE.
*Chenle* , like what you said, his voice are very clear that HE CARRIES the choruses of their song everytime they sing live. Even if it is unnecessary, his voice are still clear and loud despite dancing a hard choreo. He is also the NCT Dream's muse. He used to attract a lot of new fans on chewing gum era because of how cute he is. Chenle has been active in the music/entertainment industry since he was young. He is a child actor and a child performer (He is the youngest perfomer who ever performed in the Golden Hall of Vienna with a solo performance at age of 9) He has also a predebut albums too.

Lastly, *Jisung* . Jisung is acknowledged as one of the best main dancer despite his age. He is being put in the line of Great Dancers of all time along with KAI and TAEMIN. He is also one od the main dancer in NCT as a *WHOLE* . He participates in writing too. Like Chenle and Jeno, Jisung started his career at his young age. He was part of a child program television, and also a kid's dance crew.

Seriously the biggest bunch of EXO-Ls/Shawols out there. The percentage of their clips that show one or multiple members singing an EXO song is huge. Most of the Dreamies joined SM around 2012/2013 so they were kinda raised on EXO (as well as SuJu and Shinee) and have been covering their songs and dances forever... it's frankly adorable.

OMG I got so excited when I saw this notification. Lucas is an honorary Dream member because he wanted to be in Dream. When he learned that he was going to debut in NCT, he assumed he'd be added to Dream because he was the same age as Mark. But by the time his debut came around, it was 2018 meaning he technically would've had to graduate that year as well, plus he was a lot taller than the rest of Dream.
Yeah, I think when SM Entertainment initally planned NCT out as a group, I think they probably had planned it to be a bigger project with more units and members added more frequently. That's just my thoery, but I think the whole idea became a bit more complicated than it looked on paper. I mean, the concept of NCT Dream made sense, keeping the group "young" meant they could keep the younger concept for them, which sets them apart from the rest of NCT. Plus it would've been a great group to introduce new members through. But ultimately, plans changed. The NCT Dream line up is pretty solid with the original 7 members and I don't think SM even anticipated how much fans liked them. So I'm glad they listened and didn't end up separating them.
Also, I'd say, if you have time and you want to get to know Dream better, I'd say even the original NCT Dream Subpar guide is still pretty good minus the whole graduation thing. Softjun's guides are always well edited and entertaining to watch. They may be a few years old but the information is mostly still good and she gives a nice blend of factual info and funny trivia for each member.

Don’t worry about the time it takes to know faces and names. They are a group with 23 members after all. I became an nctizen right before the empathy era when jungwoo and Lucas joined. My first nct “experience” was with cherry bomb. It was so different than anything I had heard previously I felt like I had to stan. I’ll tell you what helped me. May seem silly but, I would watch any and all of the units’ videos and name the members out loud when a different member popped up. After a couple months I got it and all I had to do from there was learn new members that came along. You’ll get there! New subscriber btw. Love your nct content!!

Ahh the dreamies! They deserve the world and they've worked so hard and sacrificed so much of their childhood! These boys are so well-rounded and talented it's crazy. Chenle's history as a performer dates back to way before he joined SM, like he had a whole album as a kid too, his voice is super impressive and gorgeous and deserves more praise. Haechan and Jeno are my main Dream biases, they're both killer dancers as well! Jisung as a dancer too is wild, he even did a dance show with Taemin and Eunhyuk from Suju, he's been on hiatus from dancing the last few months due to a knee injury, but he'll be dancing again in Hot Sauce and I'm hoping we get a dance break for him! About Lucas joining Dream, it's because before he debuted in 2018, he thought he might've been put in Dream because he's the same age as Mark so he fit the age requirement and yeah he does also love their songs lol Can't wait for guides to the other units too!

the chemistry they have as a group is one of the best i've ever ever encountered, just so damn organic, i mean they were literally raised together locked up in the sm basement so 😅 but still, i think it had a benefitial aspect in that they all retain a weirdness to themselves that i worry would've gotten stomped down out in society :s it low-key feels impossible to be a solo stan when it comes to them, imo, they are just so thoroughly entangled, my fave fanmade vid for them is about how their life is a sitcom, the way in which they're funny is so hard to capture cause they're, for lack of a better term, an ensamble

confession time they got me into the group in general, them their personalities i mean, i only knew some nct songs casually but i wasnt ready for an emotional committment, but their fandom is all over, the amount of 2nd hand info about their dynamics in my timeline made me feel like i knew them and when i gave in and went in for some 1st-hand research they had me in like 10mins, i've been around for aprox a decade and stanned all sorts of groups from successful to disbanded to forgotten, i mean it when i say what they have is special.

it's cool you're discovering dream! they really are gems. I knew about dream in 2017 and I couldn't get over how young they were and couldn't get into them at all. through nct2018 I learned more about them and how precious and talented they are. now currently I have pre-ordered every version of their new album 🤡
also I hated the graduation idea and the videos of them crying about mark leaving and their future as dream lit up every maternal bone in my body. I was ready to fight the entirety of sm entertainment.

the point of the graduation system was to add new members through nct dream, but fans were rioting against the concept.. sm didn't want new members to be hated so they debuted members who's ages fit the dream concept in other units (yangyang in wayv, sungchan and shotaro later in nct u/2020). also the graduation concept was removed after the pandemic hit and sm decided to debut smngg (later known as aespa) in 2020 instead of 2021 as planned so that's also a thing to consider when asking why was the concept abandoned. the lack of acceptance from fans and the 7dream campaign were probably the major reason, sm saw a more profitable idea which was capitalizing on the love fans have for 7dream.
I'd definitely recommend any vocal compilation of A.C.E ! They're a bit older than most groups from their generation, and they get a lot of recognition from indie korean artists

Renjun is my bias because of his vocals and personality, but to be honest Haechan has a very very special place in my heart in NCT as a whole. you can't help but love Haechan as a seasonie, I think.
alright buckle up everyone this is going to be LONG, and i mean, LONG, bcs let’s fucking go show off my dreamie expertise.
mark was the first to join sm in 2011 and was known as a sort of gem amongst the trainees. he was originally cast as a vocalist but, well- with determination and passion such as his it’s really no wonder that when he debuted, he quickly got dubbed as hope for sm’s rappers.
in 2013, the next four dreamies joined: jeno and jaemin, who had been seatmates in school and became friends both got accepted, jaemin was actually scouted while doing charity work, and with haechan who passed auditions the same year, 3/4 of the dreamies 00 line were already in sm. the same year, jisung, barely 11 at the time, entered the company and began training.
sm has (or, had, as it’s rather inactive right now) a predebut project called smrookies. all of red velvet minus yeri were introduced and promoted through this program, and pretty much all of nct were part of smrookies at some point or the other. i believe their smrookie promotions started around 2014/2015, and alongside taeyong and seulgi, jeno was one of the first trainees ever revealed to the public.
this line up of the dreamies- mark, jeno, haechan, jaemin and jisung took part in events and small performances, and also became part of the mickeymouse club alongside sm female trainees, performing disney songs on the show, meeting with seniors from sm and playing games. so these boys were promoted together HEAVILY, them debuting together was not a speculation, it was a fact. sm even went as far as calling them future tvxq, which, if you know tvxqs legacy, tells you all you need to know about the expectations for dream.
in 2015, renjun joined sm. he grew up along the border to north korea, and afaik his mother has korean heritage so he spoke korean but it was still no walk in the park. he never became part of the smrookie program, but yeah- he was around for a long time too.
chenle was last to join, and when i say last, i mean LAST because my son was in sm 2 months prior to debuting. ‘but how?’ you may ask. WELL. zhong chenle, child prodigy in the flesh, was (as mentioned) part of several chinese audition programs predebut, he acted small roles, he held SOLO concerts, he performed at the vienna new year concert- our boy was destined for the industry. him choosing to abandon his safe career in china to start from 0 in korea is a miracle for nctzens more than it was a safe choice for him.
(fun fact: chenle and jisung had actually MET prior to joining sm, by complete chance and coincidence on a tv show where chenle sang with two other boys and jisung performed dance. when chenle joined the company, jisung quickly became close to him even though there was a language barrier, so close they gave up on the formality so that they can both use informal speech even though chenle is born 01 while jisung was born a year later)
all of them, minus mark, stopped attending school and dropped out to focus on training. these kids have nobody but each other. in 2018, jisung joined two dance shows, the 2nd called dancing high strictly for teenage participants. he opened up there about being lonely outside of dream and only having them to rely on. jaemin said much the same in another solo variety schedule: he had no school friends to speak of, no people who weren’t in the industry. he sacrificed normalcy, the chance to graduate, to make friends, to idle around to join sm. there was dream, and only dream.
so what i’m trying to say is: these kids have HISTORY. they were a well oiled machine since almost childhood, there was no awkwardness between them, they were just kids growing up together, debuting together. their early 2018 comeback ‘go’ marked the FIRST TIME since debut they all were back together because jaemin had a serious back condition that kept him out of promotions for the past two years. however... 2018 marked the year mark came of age. so, with the graduation concept back then... mark was the first (and only, thank the heavens) member to graduate in 2018 after a last (our 3rd. only three times) ot7 comeback with we go up. they held a mini concert and it was.... devastating. the dreamies were crying pretty much half the show, the fans couldn’t stop sobbing from start to finish, they even wrote a graduation song for mark that includes honestly HEARTBREAKING lyrics such as:
*we will worry about each other like always
don’t forget we are in touch
always in the same time, the same place, we were always together*
*even if we’re on the same boat, we are on a different ocean
but I will continue to always be the lighthouse you can rely on
this is fate and that’s a fact*
*now that time passed, you were so young
but you were so big
that side of you gives me strength*
it was nonstop pain for us essentially especially because throughout 2019 sm would NOT give us a fucking statement about what was going to happen. technically, four members (jeno, haechan, jaemin and renjun) were set to graduate, but aside from haechan none of them had another unit to promote with. it was chaos, the dreamies themselves had No clue what was going on. there’s lots of footage of their dream show during that time where haechan said “today of all days, i miss mark the most” and all the members broke down crying and sobbing. it was heavy, we were helpless as fans and no matter how many times we asked for clarification we got nothing.
until sm suddenly decided to give us an update that was essentially saying ‘yeah uhhhhh soooo let’s pretend this concept doesn’t exist dreamies stay as ot6 ok? ok.’
2019 passed by with only one comeback (boom) and we were starting to get a bit pissed off. dream is, all things considered... the most successful nct unit. 1st 1st win across all units. 1st daesang. best sellers with every new album, named part of time’s most influential teens of 2018, the list goes ON. and yet, their discography includes only their debut single, another single in 2017 followed by a mini, another single and mini in 2018 and one mini each in 2019 and 2020. not one full album (THIS IS THANKFULLY ABOUT TO CHANGE NOW!!) compared to 127s 2 (3 if japanese included), even wayv has one.
promotions constantly cut short so haechan and mark could go back to 127 regularly, no proper variety show until recently... but! of course, shortly before last years riding comeback, sm does what fans had been begging, protesting, emailing, boycotting two years for: MARK REJOINS DREAM!!! and now, nearly a YEAR later we’re finally seeing the fruits of that.
and that, essentially, is where nct dreams history ends. 5 years, 1 full album on the way, 4 mini albums, several singles, two collabs, a few sm stations i haven’t mentioned and tons and tons of wasted potential, cut promotions and being pushed aside by sm.
but, in my three years of stanning dream, i haven’t regretted a single day. i have given up on many groups for a variety of reasons, but no matter how bad the company, how annoying the fans, how little the promotions, i always, always came to back to dream.

Yes, you're right they changed the concept of graduation because all the rest of the members were 20 years old and if they follow the graduation concept they have to leave the band and there would be only 2 of them left Chenle and Jisung, so they changed the concept
SM did think it through, they were originally gonna add new members as the old members graduated (so the guide is wrong when it says "it would've left Dream as a 2 member group"), and graduated members would be added to new units. However, of course fans got attached to the original dream and tbh it's pretty upsetting to watch a group of young teens who've been training as idols together since like, 12 years old, to be split up.

NCTDream omg, they are so loud and childish. Love them! My fav ship is chensung (chenle and jisung) the messy kids and Jemin (jeno x jaemin) as the parents of the group.
I think all of us protect them so much because we used to see them as our babies they were like 14 and 16 years old when they started their career. Too young. They sacrifice their youngest years for NCT. They let us watch them grow up. I feel really protective about them.

@@zethyne yes, because by the time they reach their 10th anniv, 2026, Jeno, Haechan, and Jaemin, will be 27 y/o (korean age) and if they want to enlist to the maximum age limit for korean military service , they would enlist when they’re 28 years old. So yeah, that’s how amazing it is.

NCT Dream isn't SM's first attempt at the graduation concept, but like how it was with Super Junior, the fans preferred the original line up to permanently stay together, and so SM scrapped it again.
