Edmund Jin of Harbor House Life goes freediving for trophy ten inch California Red Abalone with his son Oliver Jin. They are up on the Mendocino coast diving at Albion.
great stuff, hunting/gathering your food, showing respect for the catch and the environment you find it in, passing knowledge to the next generation and sharing with family. much respect to you.
....IT'S BEEN 5 YEARS NOW SINCE I LAST DOVE FOR ABALONE, VIEWING THIS VIDEO'S MOTIVATING ME TO GO BACK DIVING AGAIN...! THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR WONDERFUL VIDEO...
I really enjoy all of your episodes for these last few years and always look forward to each new one. Your videos encompass how I feel towards the ocean as I grow to learn about it and live off of it every year. Thanks for capturing these moments, Hopefully one day I can enjoy freediving for abalone
Its nice to see so much respect for the ocean. If we all do our part it will be there for future generations. This is a resource we cannot abuse. Thanks for the video.
I pulled into a spot north of the Russian River several years ago. It was a parking area with picnic tables and bathrooms. Me and my girlfriend went out and when we came back in a group from Berkeley Rad Lab were there on one of their yearly trips. They were about twenty strong and we were invited to sit with them and eat abalone. It was cooked five different ways and all of the presentations were great.
It's a great and wonderful sport, I've done it since I was a kid! but this sport can take your life in seconds. people underestimate the waters here on the sonoma and Mendocino coast.
+nick tillman We have some of our recipes on our website harborhouselife.com but it is like a full time job keeping up with all the activities and all the recipes. We will get some new ones up on the website soon! We are also considering creating short cooking videos also.
I just discovered this channel, very cool and inspiring to get out there and share similar experiences, this is what it's all about! I also love that you made it a family affair! Thanks for the encouragement and thanks for sharing!
I've been diving for a couple years now and have gotten some 9.5 inchers, but unfortunately no 10s yet! Hopefully this August tho... Prayin for flat seas and good viz!
+Joseph Saeteurn Sounds good. Diving lessons will help. We have all taken lessons. Saves time and money to avoid trial and error with both equipment and technique.
One of the BEST episodes yet guys! Great stuff
+Karma Trees Thanks! We really worked hard on this video.
