Yes! This! Its a form of blind complacency, I'm really glad Mauler spoke up its incredibly important to hold those to higher standards especially when you have something as loved as Star Wars.
@mrfloosak his literal argument has been that the Incredibles (and Wall-E too, I believe) was aimed at children, and that's not an excuse for poor quality and bad storytelling. He's not wrong.
@@petewisdom1984 I can only watch these guys for a few minutes because all they do is hate on Star Wars to make money. I don’t believe them for a second. If they really hated the content they just wouldn’t waste their time and cover something they like. But no money in that.

I think a good virtue comes with finding hope in a hopeless scenario. What should be worth living for if not for people like that? Star Wars is arguably about hope, so I think Theory's way of looking at things can be relatable. I'm willing to suspend my disbelief, but sh*t that breaks the lore is where I'm out. I don't mind Star Wars to be a bit charmingly bad. I'd say many moments of the prequels fall into that description. Jar Jar is charmingly bad. @@PrivateCitizen84Whether they're awesome or not has nothing to do with them being cartoons is the point. I loved The Iron Giant when I was a kid. Love all you boys. But Mauler is 100% correct about the “kids” content. The target demographic for a project being children does not give it an excuse to be poorly written. As he pointed out, some of the greatest stories EVER were kids movies.
I haven’t even been watching bad batch, didn’t even finish season one, nor did I finish Ashoka, but I still have an incredible love for Star Wars, and listening to you guys talking about how much better it could become, is more entertaining than anything Disney has been putting out. 😂
One thing that’s getting really annoying is Disney/Lucasfilm sending out the episodes early to RUclips Disney shill reactors and Rotten Tomatoes “critics”. They sent the first 8 episodes of S3 of The Bad Batch to them, and they of course leaked the spoilers all over Twitter/X. Pretty sure they did that with Season 2 as well. It’s really screwed up. Anime and other franchises don’t do that. The Disney and Rotten Tomatoes shills getting special privileges and getting to view the episodes before everyone else is just pure bs. Great stream though Theory! The Bad Batch is by far my favorite Disney Star Wars content since Andor and Tales of the Jedi ended.
I laughed when theory and ryan spent several minutes on wookiepedia trying to figure out who "jenny tals" is while repeating the name out loud without realizing its a joke name, like naughtius maximus
48:00 this is Theory’s fundamental flaw when critiquing SW. Mahler is trying to explain that you can have great story telling in children stories. Theory just brushes it off and says “ehhh it’s a kid show.. what you gonna do?” But we need to hold SW to a higher standard even if it’s just a “ kids show” or else they are never gonna get better content. It’s like Theory is doing damage control for LucasFilm
Theory just doesn't want to accept that everyone at Lucasfilm doesn't care about George's legacy, and they are lazy with their storytelling and canon. Filoni included. I get it, he's someone who would kill to be officially working in that capacity and can't wrap his head around the fact that they would treat the property in such a fashion, but Mauler and Ryan are making slow progress with him on it.
At 51:57 the whole it’s a kid show argument is flawed. If you do this consistently then the viewpoint on the kids show and the mainline movies has to be the same. People say Star Wars is for kids across the board when you start to critique it. It’s just a poor argument overall to apply that thinking only to the animated shows. And more specifically some of the shows and not the others, TCW vs rebels vs bad batch. Mauler is objectively right here.
I still have the first print, 1978 edition of Splinter of The Minds Eye...a book I treasure. I couldn't stop laughing at Mauler's and Ryan's impressions of Omega, pure gold👍🤣
Was never able to get through Bad Batch and I absolutely could not stand Omega, but it’s actually interesting to hear all of your guys views on it. Really been enjoying Star Grift with Ryan involved now too!
I do like these episodes, I just wonder if there isn't more you guys can talk about before going into Superchats, since those seem to make up the majority of the episode Maybe try to cover multiple Star Wars topics at a time instead of just new Bad Batch for ~15 - 20 minutes, so it makes the episodes a better split between content discussion between the hosts and superchat responses.
Probably because there are 3 people as opposed to 2 but I feel like these episodes don’t flow as well as Nerd Theory used to. They struck a balance during Nerd theory and haven’t been able to capture that yet in star grift
Could be great if Theory would structure these better. Just randomly going "so what did you think of the episode?" Is fine, but it handicaps the conversation a bit compared to what it could've been
I don’t agree Bad Batch’s formula is the same as TCW Ryan. There’s many different types of stories told in TCW compared to the BB which is more like one thing after another “And then,” storytelling
I wish Theory would push back a bit rather than just going "yeah" all the time. I'm assuming he must have actual reasons for liking the post-prequels stuff, but he never really brings up any arguments for them
1:55:01 ya i wasn’t referring to Theory, just speaking 🙏 the mobile keyboard fucked me up with the percentages lmao 😭 I’m always down here vouching for Theory and his positive outlook, love the show
Hey boys, waited all week for this episode and it totally delivered. Love you guys so much and I pray you keep producing this kind of content! The best:)
I always miss you live. Your idea for telling a better story following on from RotJ is brilliant, the stills are impressive but I'd like to see a full screen image for definition.
Seeing as dune came out 12-15 years before starwars. I'd say its possible George was inspired by dune in some ways. But as far as this generation dune is definitely the better space opera movies.
@@mattchooblink I mean it’s okay for things to be inspired by previous works as long as they’re made their own. Ex. Game of thrones was inspired by LOTR, Harry Potter inspired by Star Wars OT. Star Wars is definetly inspired by Dune but George made it its own universe that’s more different than it is similar to Dune
GL Inspired by Dune WTF!? Stars Wars has the influence of Akira Kurosawa and Buster Crab Flash Gordan/Buck Rogers. Star Wars even has the crawl at the begining. The Dam Busters is the trench run. With Battle of Britain dog fighting. I don't see anything of Dune in Star Wars. I have read the Dune books upto GEoD.
Theory... ya gotta stop giving the 'it's just a cartoon' excuse for bad storytelling. There are many great cartoons out there meant for kids that still tackle complex situations, which can serve as great life advice depending on the subject. Alas, Star Wars fails at that spectacularly of late but we already know that. It deserves better. Again, I could list off a horde of great shows to make my point, but my go to will always be Exosquad. The story in that is leagues more intelligent than Filoni's.
Also, animation doesn't HAVE to be for children. Japan for example produces loads of great anime that tackle mature/heavy themes very well. If the people behind shows like Bad Batch want us to take them seriously as being part of the Canon, don't make them for 7-year olds. I'd wager that an animated Star Wars show for older audiences, (if it were well written), would be incredibly popular.
@@SolarDragon007 Of course it would be! Heck, this potential was already shown to us with some of the episodes from the first Visions season. What I'd give to see a full show based off 'The Ninth Jedi'...
And then he'll probably not like it lol. From what I remember it's just a bunch of over the top action scenes that don't seem congruent with the power levels established in-universe. Could be misremembering to be fair
I love Ryan. Even if I am a feminist. At least, he is funny, smart, and tolerant of other people's opinions. Even accepting. More than I am say about the left...
Well I can't help but notice that at conservative events they let people talk and ask questions. The liberals have taken to just screaming people down or canceling people left, right and center 🙁
I love how Theory always talks about the same 3 EU authors, because he probably has read maybe like 7 books (considering he always talks about the Thrawn's and Bane's trilogies and Darth Plagueis). If he reads the Vong War or Legacy of the Force series he will learn how much his "Disney doesn't stick with George's vision" argument doesn't hold up, cause the EU did that a long time ago aswell.
@@shadowstorm6458 Approval does not equate to him being the real architect of that particular set of stories, he just gave the green light. Theory always claims Disney does not respect George's vision, because for him, only if George does it, then there's the true value. He's a fan of Filoni for a reason, despite many EU fans not sharing that. He has the idea that Filoni is his student and knows what he wanted to do with the universe.
@@JCAntarex I’m not defending Theory, and I don’t like Filoni either. I’m arguing your point that the Vong War and LOTF did not align with George’s vision, when it was practice in the EU for George to veto any idea he did not like or thought contradicted his films. He literally stopped the writers from killing off Luke or Leia in the Vong War, and he was the one who suggested for the villains in NJO not to be Sith, which is what they originally were going to be instead of the Vong.
Ah for the days where LucasArts handed out the Star Wars license like candy Sure we got a lot of cringe, but we also got a lot of good stories The shotgun approach works
What would get me to come back to Disney Star Wars is the removal of the sequel trilogy, then to get new leadership and staff at Lucasfilm that respects George’s lore and that asks themselves every time: “What would George do?” Or bring him in as a permanent consultant.
1:29:00 Ryan, THANK YOU for bringing that up. Because all of that stuff was said about Mando S4 being underway, including Favreau saying S4 was being written at the time of that statement (Feb 2023). It really seems like they changed up really quick, and if so, it could once again be a shit show
😢he term is not filler. It is stand alone episode. Pretty much all classic television was stand alone episodes. And when shows like x-files and Buffy started serializibg they always had stand alone episodes
1:17:33 - Obligatory "the Star Wars soundtrack pulling from Mars & Rite of Spring is because Lucas liked the temp tracks & was considering straight up using them instead of hiring John Williams" comment. Good grift!
Let us "hope" Disney Star Wars will get better someday. If we rely on "hope" and not good writers, it WILL get better, going "forwards". We can always ask a "kneecromancer".

I laughed when theory and ryan spent several minutes on wookiepedia trying to figure out who "jenny tals" is while repeating the name out loud without realizing its a joke name, like naughtius maximus
Good thing treasure planet is a disney film. Can't get sued by your own company.
I really want to see Theo (who was on EFAP) on one of these
The debate over The Clone Wars will be legendary
I do like these episodes, I just wonder if there isn't more you guys can talk about before going into Superchats, since those seem to make up the majority of the episode
Maybe try to cover multiple Star Wars topics at a time instead of just new Bad Batch for ~15 - 20 minutes, so it makes the episodes a better split between content discussion between the hosts and superchat responses.
Probably because there are 3 people as opposed to 2 but I feel like these episodes don’t flow as well as Nerd Theory used to. They struck a balance during Nerd theory and haven’t been able to capture that yet in star grift
Could be great if Theory would structure these better. Just randomly going "so what did you think of the episode?" Is fine, but it handicaps the conversation a bit compared to what it could've been
I really enjoy Ryan & Mauler making each other laugh then Theory cannot help but smile, giggle then join in with the fun banter 👏 😂
51:02 keep calling him out Mauler
"big fat heavy" mando was John Favero himself lol.
I don’t agree Bad Batch’s formula is the same as TCW Ryan. There’s many different types of stories told in TCW compared to the BB which is more like one thing after another “And then,” storytelling
I wish Theory would push back a bit rather than just going "yeah" all the time. I'm assuming he must have actual reasons for liking the post-prequels stuff, but he never really brings up any arguments for them
1:55:01 ya i wasn’t referring to Theory, just speaking 🙏 the mobile keyboard fucked me up with the percentages lmao 😭 I’m always down here vouching for Theory and his positive outlook,
love the show
Keyboards screw is all every now and then ^.-.^
Mauler likes a good steak, theory is happy with a McDonald's
Hey boys, waited all week for this episode and it totally delivered. Love you guys so much and I pray you keep producing this kind of content! The best:)
Disney star wars has been genuinely awful when you actually break it down lol
I hope Mauler doesnt eventually lose his patience and walks out on the show, I agree with the majority of his takes on these streams
Mauler is extremely good at keeping his composure and making sure he's very justified when he does lash out
MauLer isn't the kind of bloke to walk out on Friends. No fret. ^.-.^
Mauler was on a stream with XQC and a gaggle of other raving nutcases from Twitch. If he can handle that he'll be just fine here.
*TRUE* 👆
You guys should do Tier Lists, it would make for some
Interesting content
Mauler got me singing ocean man for akbars theme
I want to see Ryan vs. Sam on their knowledge of Star Wars.
Love this group! While I liked your prior co-host, the stream is so much more based and honest. Keep it up guys!
I liked Dathomir when Grievous showed up.
The justice league was a kids show but had mature writing somehow
Love you guys
Thanks!
Pinchcliffe Grand Prix (or Flåklypa Grand Prix as it's called originally) is a great great stop-motion story! Well worth a watch if you can find it.
love these streams!!
I always miss you live. Your idea for telling a better story following on from RotJ is brilliant, the stills are impressive but I'd like to see a full screen image for definition.
The kiwi accents are killing me!!!😆
I swear I also have seen the deleted scene ryan is talking about
Shout out to the guy who mentioned Space King. Ah, Flashgitz. Rarely do those guys disappoint. XD
PLEASE
Someone make an edit of luke about to kill his nephew
But replace Lukes face with Ryans and his nephew with Grogu
😅
Seeing as dune came out 12-15 years before starwars. I'd say its possible George was inspired by dune in some ways. But as far as this generation dune is definitely the better space opera movies.
Its not possible, its a fact. Herbert considered suing George for copying so much of his story. Theres a ton of parallels but hey star wars is awesome
@@mdw505 i never said it wasn’t ok
GL Inspired by Dune WTF!? Stars Wars has the influence of Akira Kurosawa and Buster Crab Flash Gordan/Buck Rogers. Star Wars even has the crawl at the begining. The Dam Busters is the trench run. With Battle of Britain dog fighting. I don't see anything of Dune in Star Wars. I have read the Dune books upto GEoD.
Maulers comparison between all three of you and the Grand Tour trio was the only comparison that would’ve made sense.
Theory... ya gotta stop giving the 'it's just a cartoon' excuse for bad storytelling.
I agree
Also, animation doesn't HAVE to be for children. Japan for example produces loads of great anime that tackle mature/heavy themes very well.
If the people behind shows like Bad Batch want us to take them seriously as being part of the Canon, don't make them for 7-year olds. I'd wager that an animated Star Wars show for older audiences, (if it were well written), would be incredibly popular.
@@SolarDragon007 Of course it would be! Heck, this potential was already shown to us with some of the episodes from the first Visions season. What I'd give to see a full show based off 'The Ninth Jedi'...
The chat gives me fond memories of the cantina world chats fromSWG
Add Thor Skywalker
Jenny Tahls, I think, sounds more like a hidden naughty word meme chat. You know: Genni Tahls.
Omg theory trying to pitch Ryan and mauler to do luke skywalker fan fiction 💀
55:20 it sounds a lot like theory is saying we should just accept it and be thankful, just saying
Lmao, seems to me like he doesn't care what you or I do, he just wants to enjoy Star Wars content without critiquing it minutely sometimes.
1:53:46 its not a lie if you believe it
- George Costanza
This show is great ❤🎉
Maybe one day mauler will stop hurting me and watch 03 clone wars 😢
And then he'll probably not like it lol. From what I remember it's just a bunch of over the top action scenes that don't seem congruent with the power levels established in-universe. Could be misremembering to be fair
@@HerohammerStudios I mean. It’s over the top yes. But it’s exaggerated. But there’s a lot of good character work done. Especially in volume 2.
He will do it, just, brace yourself. He might actually enjoy it, though he may be critical of its objective qualities. Steel yourself. ^.-.^
@@Beuwen_The_Dragon I’m fine with him being critical of parts of it. There’s certainly parts I dislike (Padme and C-3PO rescuing Yoda).
@@Beuwen_The_Dragon this aged poorly
The moment of Qui Gon and Obi Wan in regards to the lightsaber, it was mentioned in the Episode 1 book.
Third wave? Intersectional? Feminist context matters. Ryan will lean hard into the hyberbole claims about him for comic relief.
19:20
Bloody RUclips shadow bans.
Anyhow, love the episode lads. ^.-.^
As someone who really like the dune books I personally thought both dune movies were alright but not great
With "both", do you mean the 1980s one and the modern Dune 1, or the 2 modern versions Dune 1 and 2.
@@mala6238 i mean both modern dune movies
@@AiyukIsHim I agee. Great visuals, but flawed adaption.
I’d like to see Mauler write a fully fleshed out story 😂😂goddamn kid
Ryan has a cool shirt
In this episode, Mauler tells Theory Santa Claus isn't real. Stay tuned for this weeks shenanigan's!
Mauler wouldn't lie

I love how Theory always talks about the same 3 EU authors, because he probably has read maybe like 7 books (considering he always talks about the Thrawn's and Bane's trilogies and Darth Plagueis). If he reads the Vong War or Legacy of the Force series he will learn how much his "Disney doesn't stick with George's vision" argument doesn't hold up, cause the EU did that a long time ago aswell.
You do realize that George approved of the Vong and the authors had to run every major decision through him first, right?
George wasn't some flawless creative genius. He had plenty of idiotic ideas and made loads of terrible creative decisions with the franchise.
Ah for the days where LucasArts handed out the Star Wars license like candy
Sure we got a lot of cringe, but we also got a lot of good stories
The shotgun approach works
Not going to be impactful? They are using BB to explain how “somehow Palpatine returned”. Somehow the sequel trilogy matters. Nope.
What would get me to come back to Disney Star Wars is the removal of the sequel trilogy, then to get new leadership and staff at Lucasfilm that respects George’s lore and that asks themselves every time: “What would George do?” Or bring him in as a permanent consultant.
I completely agree

No, it was a genie movie with Sinbad, not Shaq, that didn't exist. But it did exist, and I found it.
Mauler's typing in every stream... someone tell him about how to adjust audio filters PLEASE!
I’ve for sure seen that lightsaber scene 🤔
Solo lost money.
Can someone put time stamps for the Omega impressions? I was fucking dying at work everyone thought I was crazy lmaooo
1:15:31
This part is pretty damn funny
1:29:00 Ryan, THANK YOU for bringing that up. Because all of that stuff was said about Mando S4 being underway, including Favreau saying S4 was being written at the time of that statement (Feb 2023). It really seems like they changed up really quick, and if so, it could once again be a shit show
I’d buy a star grift t-shirt for sure and I’ve been very conservative with my money lately
I don't think it was a cake for Padme. I think it was a melorun fruit for a cake for Padme.
✅
😢he term is not filler. It is stand alone episode. Pretty much all classic television was stand alone episodes. And when shows like x-files and Buffy started serializibg they always had stand alone episodes
I, Jedi is great. Darksaber is an underrated stand-alone book.
The Obi-Wan fried lightsaber scene is in TPM novel, I know you don't really read DM's but I sent the pics to your insta, Theory!
Umm he literally would of seen shogun when he opens Disney+
Gotta cut down the ads
1:17:33 - Obligatory "the Star Wars soundtrack pulling from Mars & Rite of Spring is because Lucas liked the temp tracks & was considering straight up using them instead of hiring John Williams" comment.
Good grift!
Let us "hope" Disney Star Wars will get better someday. If we rely on "hope" and not good writers, it WILL get better, going "forwards". We can always ask a "kneecromancer".
👍
Jenny Tahls 😂, why does that sound sus
