My DC800 has no binding it's just straight wood on wood. When I talked to the guy at Carvin he told me that he got his bass coated with Tung Oil and he wished he wouldn't have. He said it doesn't protect the instrument well enough. I'm not sure if the Satin Matte finish will gloss over time but I can tell you it's a great finish for a natural wood guitar. The wood looks very nice.
I use the stock Carvin string set because the way this guitar was setup by the factory was amazing and I didn't want to mess with it at all. I tune to F# Standard, this cover is in F standard, and my string gauges are as follows: 68 - 56 - 46 - 36 - 26 - 17 - 13 - 10 It can be a little floppy tuned down a half step to F standard but for F# standard it feels great and it has a very clear tone.
This comment may not have aged well, but it was the upload date difference. Since this video came out first, it got more views, but now the difference is huge
The moment (literally) when Meshuggah enters/possesses the guitarist covering their songs! Complete and utterly beautiful submission to the music itself lol. Kudos to J Rex for feeling this in a multiverse of ways!
Your video initiated me into Meshuggah years ago, huge fan since! I saw them live twice and Haake became my role model for drumming. RUclips just re-suggested me this, so I came to say: thank you!!!! 🙏
I know guitar, I know that’s an 8 string, but what company? That thing is dope as hell. Also who downvotes this? Literally shows you how to play the song and it’s perfectly done. The subtle string bends here and there, hard to hear, but you know it’s right.
The bend in the opening riff is so heavyyyyy. This is my fav Meshuggah song hands down! Falling, while thrusting squares through circles, serving oneeeeeee" Love how you set up the cam like their music video. You are banging and I love it! 3:35 is sooooooooo heavy. Maybe the heaviest riff ever made... Killer cover!
0:00-2:26 - "Ok this is pretty standard. I'll just sway here" 2:27-3:12 - "It's time to get DOWN" 3:13-3:35 - "Ok J Rex, pull yourself together. We have work to do" 3:36-6:11 - "Brain can't process movement. MUST. COUNT. NOTES." 6:11-6:16 - "F*** it. My brain is fried. They'll get the just of it" (Nice video man)
Excellent cover! I enjoyed speeding it up to 1.5. Also, the your ultimate sway at 2:26 just sent shivers down my spine. I saw Meshuggah a couple years ago in Seattle. What an amazing band and show. I think my head fell off. Oh well, YOLO. BTW, you should have a million subscribers by now! That's how good this is! If you want some happy synthpop come take a listen to my channel. Take care, Sam from machiwoomiapoo.
I'm torturing myself at this moment.... playing "Demiurge" on 6 string classical acoustic guitar xD tuned like 8 string electric... * I can't play on my electric at this moment.... need new strings*
Sam Torruellas If you get your guitar set up by a lutheir, you should be able to tune to this with a 7 string. But, it is way easier to do with an 8 lol
I used to hate this stuff, but it kind of grew on me.Loved the tone and the playing.Great job.All the six string buggers need to ease off with the 'Get a bass dialouge" its getting really old.
Truly inspired work! As so many have already said, 2:27 is where life gets real. Thank you for taking the time and making the effort to nail this cover AND post it up here!
The string bends... Quarter to half step, whole step too. All subtle. Sick. And they have 2 guitars and a bass doing it perfectly together. And that guitar is a work of art, it’s absolutely superb. I thought my 7 string Jackson was dope, and it is, but that thing is a museum piece. 8 string guitars are awesome if you know how to utilize them, they are so new most don’t know how to play them and make them sound awesome except this kind of music or jazz.
i've seen lots of people cover this on youtube, and this by far in my opinion nailed it best. Downpicking the whole tune does it justice...awesome job! I don't mind a badass cool riff being repeated...especially when done flawlessly! As you've shown...you gotta do more vids bro!
Awesome, but 5:30 - "Preformed" isnt the word youre looking for :) Whats the patch on Pod Farm youre using. it sounds a million times better than most patches ive heard
I require myself to watch this video once a week. Best guitar video I've ever seen. Gives me chills. Very nice guitar, tone, camera, and that bend you do on the low string first fret...how? Rock on bro.
Meshuggah's bass player plays in the same octave as the guitars and it sure sounds different. Even though he rarely doesn't follow the guitars, the bass still occupies a different sonic space. Pickups and scale length has a huge impact on tone.
I'd say it's worth it. I'd crank up the volume til my ears bled and I still wouldn't stop listening until the song finished. Even then, I'd definitely click replay.
Demiurge is my favorite track from them - and my favorite part of the song is where was the headbang just so groovy, meshuggah are great indeed and you nailed it ofcourse!! props to you
Since that owl city fireflies drum cover where the bloke just goes mental on the blast beats got removed, this has been my favourite yt video. I would love so much to see more shuggs covers. Straws is my favourite :)
It is physically impossible to not headbang at 2:26. I'm pretty sure it's scientific law. Good shit.
Sandwich Hawk tried to not. It literally is impossible.
XD
Make it 1.5 speed, and you headbang through the whole song.
Can confirm. Can't listen with headphones and play along, lose the headphones about 90% of the time. Real bummer.
called "Brutal Law" or something
2:26 , my favourite Meshuggah riff, it amazes me some people don’t like Koloss, but this riff is something else, the bend just hits DIFFERENT
They should just make a video game where meshuggah has to save America from a zombie apocalypse with all their music as the soundtrack
@@well...456 fuck America. Save Sweden
def not my favorite meshuggah riff 🤣😂😅 but its good
Yeah koloss is prob my fav album
2:27 probably the most appropriate headbang for this part
+Third Eye StrΔng Can't resist
so fucking awesome.... i think is the best part of the whole album, i would the same jaja
No, it's totally the best their part. )
yeah its good but at 4:11
XD
Why can't all guitar covers have cameras on the guitars? Killer job, btw.
Jordan Dansereau i think it looks better
I Don't Know 0123456789 I would if I had the money for the Go Pro and the mount but I don't.
4:11 BAGUM BUGUM BUGUM BUGUM BUGUM BUGUM BUGUM
+Ali Shehab A new Genre called bagum :D
Its a subgenre of Djent :)
Das TIER Jesus Christ no. Enough subgenres.
Robertas S. Never enough subgenres
I'm glad I'm not the only who speaks guitarrish
Maybe, one of the best breakdowns, ever.
after 2 years i still come back here to watch this video, still one of the best covers i've seing, you can feel the power =O
Same! xD saw this some time ago and I had to search it up and see it once again, the tone is perfection!
Nisemekut Mk .....*me too, I've seen this many times,... I Love it*
I'm still here doing that same thing. Love this cover.
Goosebumps every single time! Epic.
It's 2022... still here.
7 years later and I STILL lose my shit at 2:26
+5 same /m
Listened to this while playing skyrim, and got 100 two handed as well as heavy armour simultaneously
FEEL LIKE VIKINGER JEI
And the destruction school
'Shugg it till it breaks
tes 😍
I don’t know what that means ..but sounds sick \m/ Wow! Bad ass cover ! nice work
The whole body movements at 2:29 is everything I need to know about you as a person and I’m here for it. \m/
2:26 Buckle up!

Exceptional video my friend. Me and my 5 friends from Ireland watch this religiously. Great stuff.
I love the tone of that guitar. Absolute beauty
I love that the best video cover of this song has more views than the actual music video itself. You can definitely tell this is a musicians music.
This comment may not have aged well, but it was the upload date difference. Since this video came out first, it got more views, but now the difference is huge
11 years. Hotdamn. I make sure to revisit this at least once a year. Love this cover
8 years on I still watching this monthly. This I’m in my top 3 favourite yt vids of all time.
Oh man, that cover never gets old. 6 years already and I'm still checking this vid' on a regular basis :D
The moment (literally) when Meshuggah enters/possesses the guitarist covering their songs! Complete and utterly beautiful submission to the music itself lol.
Kudos to J Rex for feeling this in a multiverse of ways!
2:26 AWESOME!
Just me again checking in to say this is the best video on this whole platform
Your video initiated me into Meshuggah years ago, huge fan since! I saw them live twice and Haake became my role model for drumming. RUclips just re-suggested me this, so I came to say: thank you!!!! 🙏
That headbang feels like a mandatory part of the cover. Fantastic job man!
2:26 my back hurt - sick
how to play meshuggah:
- get drunk
- buy a 8-string guitar
- use two strings only
-FORGET the logical metrical
Gabryel Alves they went hatd on this song, they use 3 strings sometimes
drugs - some of them yes, but no alcohol. alcohol is always a bad idea when you're trying to play articulate music.
Guy Buddy drinking is actually a very specific part of my practice ritual.. being drunk and drinking are definitely two separate things.
No just focus and Beer
Don’t forget the ‘Meshuggah Face’! Just roll your eyes into the back of your head and expose your lower row of teeth. 😅
This cover - bomb!!! 2:26 - best moment, im in shock...
Love coming back to this. This is one of the videos that inspired me to get into playing guitar
That's EPIC
the tone and the rhythm is too sick
Still the best cover pn youtube of the best riff ever.
I know guitar, I know that’s an 8 string, but what company? That thing is dope as hell.
Also who downvotes this? Literally shows you how to play the song and it’s perfectly done. The subtle string bends here and there, hard to hear, but you know it’s right.

6:11-6:16 - "F*** it. My brain is fried. They'll get the just of it"
(Nice video man)
Indeed. The fact that you head-banged for that section added so much flavour to this cover.
turns into a psychotic video with 1.5 speed at 2:27
turns into a john browne right hand
turns into a typical dragonforce song with 2 speed
His movement reminds me of Les Claypool tbh
I love how you cant help but move to this dude. Love it. Meshuggah is easily one of my favourite bands.
Excellent cover! I enjoyed speeding it up to 1.5. Also, the your ultimate sway at 2:26 just sent shivers down my spine. I saw Meshuggah a couple years ago in Seattle. What an amazing band and show. 2:28- the part where Meshuggah gets into downright funk. Love it
I'm torturing myself at this moment.... playing "Demiurge" on 6 string classical acoustic guitar xD tuned like 8 string electric... * I can't play on my electric at this moment.... need new strings*
I have a hard time getting my 7 string to this tuning, dont even try dude
xDDD well... it's harder for me cause I have 6 strings :D botch acoustic and electric guitar.
Sam Torruellas
If you get your guitar set up by a lutheir, you should be able to tune to this with a 7 string. But, it is way easier to do with an 8 lol
Sam Torruellas
Just buy 11 gauge strings for it. Then tune into drop F
F-C-F-A#-D#-G-C
Ultimate chuggage/djent/floppage
guitarfreak512 Let's also face the fact that I can't even play Meshuggah :P
Nailed it. ...I'm back again after 11 months to watch this again...
I used to hate this stuff, but it kind of grew on me.Loved the tone and the playing.Great job.All the six string buggers need to ease off with the 'Get a bass dialouge" its getting really old.
Ok then, how about "get a harp"? lol
HammerDimension Get a ukulele?
How about a 14 string baritone ukelele, that you tap with both hands?
How about a 24 string ukedjentbass?
That shits whack.
Tears of joy in my eyes...Gotta say that man...I listened to your cover many, many times and it never gets old! :))
I will do a full Bleed cover for you guys in a few weeks... Solo and all.
J Rex what happened to that Bleed cover?
This cover is absolutely legendary.
nice cover dude, that guitar looks awesome too :p
Truly inspired work! As so many have already said, 2:27 is where life gets real. Thank you for taking the time and making the effort to nail this cover AND post it up here!
best meshuggah cover
I remember when this came out, it was the first time I saw a headstock cam. I thought it was absolutly incredible. A genius.
8 string guitars are awesome if you know how to utilize them, they are so new most don’t know how to play them and make them sound awesome except this kind of music or jazz.

actually this is the best guitar cover ive ever seen
people don't head bang enough in covers
you did it even though we couldn't see your head
fantastic cover my good sir
By head won't stop banging...
I love how you can't help but BANG when you come to play THE RIFF!!!
Good cover...but what the hell were you doing at 2.37? working out your right hip flexor???
Love it when people makes it look easy.
nailed it - check!
that downstroke tho /\
I love those Meshuggah first fret bends ❤
Зачем нужны верхние пять струн!?..)
Dude seriously, that just demolished IT! Fantastic cover!
Nailed it like it was jesus christ!
Goge go that’s right!
by far one of the best covers in general i've ever seen
Awesome, but 5:30 - "Preformed" isnt the word youre looking for :)
Whats the patch on Pod Farm youre using. it sounds a million times better than most patches ive heard
Shut up Jeff, no one cares :D
Jeff Barber Your into sack that's gross as fuck.
I require myself to watch this video once a week. Best guitar video I've ever seen. Gives me chills. Very nice guitar, tone, camera, and that bend you do on the low string first fret...how? Rock on bro.
Davie504 want this guitar
Very nice playing. Tone and playing sounds great. The headbanging in the bridge is cool too, threw me for a second
how do you get that good sound quality?only the camera?or anything else..tell
me..btw great tone
I recorded into Cubase at the same time I was recording the video.
thank u..
so with Cubase you can record video also?
+Richard Tran Nope. You edit it after and add them together
This is seriously one of the best cover videos ever dude
Couldn't you just play this with a distorted bass guitar?
followfornothing pretty much but that's not djent enough lmao
Meshuggah's bass player plays in the same octave as the guitars and it sure sounds different. Even though he rarely doesn't follow the guitars, the bass still occupies a different sonic space. Pickups and scale length has a huge impact on tone.
Yep ruclips.net/video/z1LQbPVggX4/видео.html
Wow, only 2 videos on this channel and we never got the bleed cover promised in the comments :( RIP. Incredible tone and immaculate playing, BTW.
Really? 8 fucking strings?
You're new to this aren't you.
Not really. Was just hoping for a more accessible way to play Meshuggah.
ThePhilosorpheus Is djent man. Some bands play djent on 10 strings guitars so :) But 8 strings guitar is really fun to play
MsPatryk1103 I don´t get why do you need 8 strings if you´re only gonna use the 8th. Djent should use a 2 strings guitar lol
ThePhilosorpheus Often for the solo's and not only djent bands use 8 strings.
I can say with complete confidence that that will look great. Contrast is awesome, especially when it's natural wood.
This is the greatest video on RUclips.
I love how much power there is in meshuggah songs.
The best riff ever written.
You're the man - I couldn't have put it any better. Rock on brother
Super well shot, preserves all the energy; along with an A-grade performance! Great job!
I agree. I love the view from the headstock.
We need more people like you on RUclips.
Hey it’s me Brentaxe saying once again this is the best video there is
I'd say it's worth it. I'd crank up the volume til my ears bled and I still wouldn't stop listening until the song finished. Even then, I'd definitely click replay.
one of the best covers I've seen, very nice.
i like your tone better than the actual recording! playing is great as well. right on man
You really need to do more covers like this man. This is brutally awesome.
So happy to see some unrestrained headbanging from headstock cam.
Demiurge is my favorite track from them - and my favorite part of the song is where was the headbang
just so groovy, meshuggah are great indeed
and you nailed it ofcourse!! props to you
God that tone is immaculate
this vid is a f****** drug!
Enjoyed every second...greets from Germany
badass to the bone
Since that owl city fireflies drum cover where the bloke just goes mental on the blast beats got removed, this has been my favourite yt video. I would love so much to see more shuggs covers. Straws is my favourite :)
I keep coming to this vid man, your cover is seriously balls. Amazing job!
Absolutely the best Meshuggah Cover Ever. :-)
WOW, that tone is AMAZING!
this song could make winter melt.
SHIT YEAH!
The whole dimebag kick into the headbanging on the crazy part was mad man!
Respect!
this is just....beautiful.
Love when you get into the head banging man. Meshugahh has some groovy shit.
dude this shreds! I was like hypnotized watching you play this tune note for note...
you absolutely need to put up more videos like this
When are you posting 'Bleed' brother? Can't wait. The headstock cam is the future of badass metal guitar covers.
Holy fuck man this is what I've been searching for!!!!!! Thank you my guy! You must have bloody blisters on your fingers after all that
Kick ass DEJENT!! You got all the nuance. One 8 to another - Great job
