- Rebel Moon: Part One - A Child of Fire is probably the WORST Film of 2023, and I have seen many at the Cinema this year. I'm sorry Zack Snyder fans, but this just wasn't good.
But why is it so bad? Let's find out!
The fact Snyder was able to rip-off multiple stories from other franchises while not being able to even give this movie a proper plot during it’s more than 2 hour runtime and having so many flashbacks and backstory while having accomplished absolutely ZERO character development at the end must be some sort of achievement on it’s own.
Agreed, it was like watching a 2 hour trailer, there was no cohesive story by the end of it and it was full of the don'ts of good storytelling and barely any of the do's.
I turned it off after the terrible spider fight. And it was clearly about to go to another character introduction. Scene. After it had already done 3 in a row. And all 3 characters being dull as dishwater and me not caring about them or what they are doing in their lil segment.
Rip-off ? Oh you mean like Star Wars? Then yes you are right.
@@benceelias1849 Stealing multiple visual and plot elements from various other sci-fi IPs to make a poorly written bland looking frankenstein monstrosity that has no character development whatsoever and is unable to tell a complete and cohesive story while being over two hours long is nowhere near the same as getting inspired by something else to create an original franchise that captivates audiences and stands the test of time, but that seems too hard for snyder-slaves to understand

The obsession with people over ZS is utterly atrocious BOTH ways. The amount of hate and personal attacks I’ve seen on him and his works is absolutely ridiculous and therefore EVERYTHING in the movie is BAD, from set design to lighting, to choreography to costumes to music to sound design to acting and performances to writing and everything else

Saw Trailer. Was completely sold on the hype and visual appeal. Watched, and now am searching the web for "Rebel Moon was Horrible" to engage with others in conversation. The action scenes were subpar. I was expecting good action. Major awesome moment was the Olive Skinned Fabio looking guy. The Ripped Shirtless dude.... I was like this guy is interesting, lets see how he "acts". He won himself a fan. That guy reminds me of Ed Skerin in Game of Thrones. He came on the Screen and I immediately liked having him on it. His sequence was directly ripped from Avatar. And this new Actor has convinced me he could be at least an awesome side character in other movies... He can act. And he is cool.
The Main woman was horrible... Is this the same woman from Atomic Blond? Let me look that up after this. She was cool and hot in that movie. In this movie she was awful. I didn't like her, and I usually love hot woman characters. Gina Carano would have been perfect here. Thats all I needed, a competent leading woman who is hot and can actually act when needed. Hailey Stanfeild, we needed you on this one (I can think of many other examples of better casting for my taste.)
I would give this film a 3/10. I don't even know what the heck I just watched. And I watched it twice.
Last point. The Darrio Neharis Character the shit version was even worse in this movie than in Game of Thrones. I will say the writing didnt help. This guy Gunner is supposed to be a likeable side character, and we are introduced to him being a Cuck simp beta fool, trying to get his friend laid(???). Weirdest written character I have possibly ever seen. I dont understand him at all. I know Media nowadays is made to cripple and weaken men and future generations. I just wanted to point out how bad that actor and character combo were in Rebel Moon part 1.

I went blind into this movie, and I can say......its shit.
I went blind watching this movie. From the bad vfx to the out of focus shots. Had 20/20 vision the first 10 minutes or so then about an hour into the film I had cataracts and by the end I was legally blind.
I remember seeing a poster for this movie on a wall of a bus stop and I felt like I could tell its plot just from the poster
If you have watched A Bugs Life that's all you need to draw a parallel. It's basically the same movie with a whole of star wars.
Consider that the film "Rebel Moon" (2023), was already made some decades ago under the title "Battle Amongst the Stars" (1980). The latter film, which was a clear-cut sci-fi homage to "Star Wars" and "The Magnificent Seven" had no CGI yet did a great job with the effects available at the time, had a cast that gave some good performances, provided characters that were relatable, and had an epic battle of good versus evil whereby a ruthless warlord trying to expand his empire was confronted by a ragtag band of mercenaries and civilians from a small planet who just wanted to live peacefully.

Great video! new subscriber here! ive had this issue with Snyder for a while, he can directi a good looking movie visually but he cant tell a story.
Seems to me the biggest killer of movies lately has been bland predictable dialogue and unnecessary exposition. You mentioned these in the video, but to me these issues are blaring. Are there no good writers? Why do they have to dumb everything down?
Disney rejected the script, because it was so bad, even for current Disney standards. Netflix took it, because they knew people will want to see this dumpster fire, out of morbid curiosity. Snyder made a lot of money , so everyone wins, except for the viewers.

As a snyder fan, this movie sucks. Zack needs better quality control on his none franchise stuff. Like I think I liked his DC stuff because, believe it or not, he was restrained a bit. Zack with complete control seems to not know what to do because army of the dead was bad also.
I was actually rooting for the "Admiral" antagonist. He was the coolest villain, in great shape. I am glad that after all that he is really a robot and will come back for the sequel.

I don’t think it’s the worst film of 2023 there’s definitely worse films of this year Ant-Man 3, The Flash, The Marvels, and Aquaman 2. But this is a meh movie.

Rebel moon has worst critical and audience rating than all those movies.
I agree that the film was wasted. This was "The Magnificent 7", or "7 Samurai" IN SPACE! and they tough warriors never got to save the town. They were all given massages on a slab, while everything else blew up around them. At the end, I was wondering, "Where were all of them during the explosions?" And they ripped off Sylvester Stallone getting frozen in "Demolition Man" when reviving the "Admiral".
The big problem is that the Seven Samurai story has been done and retold so many times it's become too cliche at this point. There's Magnificent Seven, along with its sequels and remake from a few years ago, Battle Beyond the Stars, A Bug's Life, the Three Amigos, Wild Hogs, and Star Wars has done it three times (first in the 70's Marvel comics, a second in a season 2 episode of TCW and finally as the fourth episode of The Mandalorian). So the movie was a going to struggle with originality regardless of anything else he did with it. Obviously it could have worked if there were some more creative twists put on it, but there weren't enough of them.

I liked Batman v Superman the Ultimate Cut and Man of Steel but Rebel Moon was absolute crap. It's the worst movie of 2023.

I’ve seen all of Snyders films and this managed to look worse than Sucker punch. It’s flat looking. Out of focus. The extended, R-Rated version…. no such thing. It’s going to be a re-edit. They’re just going to call it directors cut. Snyder managed to do DLC for movies.

I finally got to watch this movie today and... Can't believe this was made by the same director as one of my top 10 movies ever: 300. I loved that movie, I liked Watchmen... I liked even BvS and his Justice League.
However, throughout this movie I only felt it was uninspired, stale, sterile and bland. Characters were completely forgettable, they had no development and I had no reason to root for them. Action didn't feel exciting like it did in 300 and BvS, it was just overloaded with slow mo. The movie really is boring and empty, the Starfield of movies.
I really want to watch Watchmen, it seems like Snyder is a talented person, but maybe he had too much creative control on this one
I would counter that Snyder haters are equally as obnoxious. Snyder movies are good dumb fun! No more no less. To debate it is criticizing the nutritional value of Twinkies
I am not an active Snyder hater personally, I just don't enjoy his movies. I wouldn't think that Snyder would class his films as dumb fun, I really think that he's trying to make amazing movies, and they fail for me. I criticise films for my own enjoyment and also so others know what movies to they should spend their hard earn money on, and what to avoid!

while I can't say I'm familiar with the franchise, I hear it's also ripping off warhammer 40k (the futuristic sci-fi one) with a lot of the lore and characters. So it's even less original that I thought. What's more, it claims to be inspired by Akira Kurosawa samurai films, just like star wars was

Rebel moon is number 1 in over 30 countries, I’m not a Synder cult member as people like to think; but I appreciate his vision, I hated sucker punch but have enjoyed his movies and loved MOS, BVS Ultimate Edition and his cut of justice league.
Like I say you’re entitled to your opinion but like self proclaimed critics it has zero impact on if people watch or support projects.
THE MARFAILS and THE FLUSH are great examples, hailed by some of the mainstream media and were absolute cow pats of a movie. Both deserved to crash and burn and lol both certainly have.

And aside from cinematography. There's nothing that makes rebel moon objectively good. Every other aspect of the film its rather poor.

This version was supposed to be the watered down pg13 version that was family friendly enough to watch on Christmas.
The R rated directors cut is supposed to be the better version. Even still, seen many many worse movies then Rebel Moon in 2022. Early reviews were much higher and the watch score is still high.
Yeah the scores now are abysmal. 5.7 on IMDB is laughably bad and 24% on Rotten Tomatoes is awful. Obviously people should watch it for themselves and form their own opinion. I'm only here to let people know what I think of the films.
Fair enough on your opinion, I've seen 60+ new releases in the Cinema this year and this one just about topped it for me for being the worst. I don't get the watered down shit anyway, it just made the film shockingly bad and now its ruined the movie and the franchises' reputation big time.

I felt Zack Snyder was able through cinematography, especially his use of slow motion, to effectively show the emotion of many scenes. "Dilios gives the necklace to Queen Gorgo and tells her of her husband's fate." This was a scene that I think he did particularly well, as he showed the magnitude of the motional impact as shown by Lena Headey.
Rebel Moon - didn't work for me, although I am sure others liked it. For instance, the slow motion shot of the seeds Kora was sewing gently falling to the ground. Why? I had no emotional attachment to the character at this point, the scene or the seeds; this along with many other parts of the film I felt it was disjointed. I saw what Zack Snyder was try to accomplish, but I don't feel he did it effectively.

Expendables 4 is the only one that could be worse. I have seen over 60 films in the Cinema this year so I'd like to think that I have an informed opinion. This is my first review of a Zach Snyder film, and I feel like I explained why its so bad. But please tell me what makes the movie so good.

I guess after Kenobi everything looks good because I did not find it all that bad. It won't win any awards but it is better than most of the sludge Hollywood has been pushing the last decade.

As with all Zack synder productions. It looks great. But if he writes it. It has all the depth of a puddle.
@@richarddixon1450 Understand that the bar is set really low. The plot is nothing new. It is a retelling of the 7 Samurai with a few generic twists in it, but in general the characters were less insufferable than most Hollywood productions. I put it in the same category as Pacific Rim, it is not going to win any awards but it has some nice visuals every 20 min. Some of the fight sense were pretty bad though, it is clear that the women in it did not know how to fight and they really had get creative with editing and slow motion to get it to look even 1/2 way okay. 10 years ago this would have been a joke but the quality of work coming out of the industry has been so bad that it makes this actually look better than it is.

And I just said a lot of his fans are crazy. And look at the comment section. All of the Snyder fan boys have said stuff like "Whens your movie coming out", so according to them I can't review films because I haven't made one myself.
Not one Snyder fan has given me ANY explanation into why this movie is good, but there is plenty of people explaining why it sucks.
I am open to other opinions, you can be right about anything that is subjective as long as you can back up your points!

I would never walk into an art gallery and state something that I dislike sucks. Art, be it painting, photography, dance, film, drawing, design, music and so on is always about the creators perspective, maybe try and view those things from the lens of the creatives rather than your own, especially when coming up with such ridiculous simplistic conclusions as “it sucks”
To state the one or hundreds or thousands of people that contributed to a specific art project has failed cause the end result “sucked” is hilarious but also an utterly grotesque attack on art
The music is phenomenal, the sound design is great, the set designs are great, cinematography is fantastic, VFX work is really good, performances are good, costumes are good and the story flows fine, are you actually stating that EVERYONE on the project was that bad and there is absolutely NO redeeming qualities in NO department.
