Melodyne • Creating harmonies from single vocal tracks

- In this video, Rich shows how to create realistic harmony vocals in Melodyne when only a lead vocal is present. He advises on the early steps of using Melodyne to capture the key and chord information and create key and chord tracks, which makes creating quality harmonies even easier and more musical. He then illustrates the ease of copying and pasting notes, as well as using the various backgrounds to make it easy to experiment with harmonies. Next Rich uses the various editing tools such as the Modulation, Amplitude, Formant, Timing, Attack Speed, and Time Handle tools to add texture and character to the newly created background vocals. Finally, he demonstrates the processing flexibility of duplicating tracks first and creating separate harmonies in there using Invert Note Selection.

This deserves so much more attention. What a brilliant tutorial. So clear, even for a newbie like me. It really show off Melodyne's potential. Thanks a lot and greetz from France.
blob lol
4:30 blew my mind! I had no idea this was possible. Sounds so natural.
I just want to give u a hug for this. You should be the face of Melodyne. This is gold
Thanks a million for all your tutorials!
the dopamine rush i get from this is so good after manually duplicating tracks and manually pitch automating for like 5 hours in ableton
Rich, your videos are excellent. You're a good teacher. Thank you.
This is a total game changer for me. The best Melodyne tutorial I've watched so far! Great video
I love your tutorial videos! Short, precise and very clearly explained. You rule! Thank you very much, Rich!
I can see this being a useful tool for auditioning harmonies (I'm actually going to try this out tonight). That being said, once you've found what you want, why not "humanize" the harmony by actually singing the harmony? Mute the lead vox, sing along with the robot, then delete the robot. Maybe this doesn't apply to pop, but in the age of digital recording I want to preserve as much soul in my music as I can.
Yes, you can absolutely do this and use Melodyne as a composition or arrangement tool only. Or you mix the Melodyne version with real recorded harmony vocals. Lots of choices. 🙂
Great idea!
Yes , this is the best way to figure out harmonies :)
@@celemony PERFECT
I've been using waves harmony, and although faster in work flow, it does not always trigger the intended harmony. This is a great idea and tool 🦄🌠
One of the most understandable and to the point tutorials ever. With a FULL rundown. Less than 13 minutes for real
So well presented, understandable and professional. This is what gives so much credibility to the product in addition.
Ive watched 2 of your videos and they have cleared up every problem I had with Melodyne. Awesome stuff !
Thanks for the superb tutorial. I really like the conciseness...no rambling, just great info. Not only do you offer the technical stuff with clarity but include the genius of how to be creative with the tools in program. I no longer see Melodyne as an aid in audio production; I see it an an an indispensable tool. Again, thank you sooooo much.
Happy to see that you find this video useful. Thanks for the feedback!
I have listen to about 6 of your video repeatedly and i've learn so much. Thank you. I've upgrade.

Nice precise video. I learn a lot from your videos they are straight to the point. Thanks and God bless.
This is so great! Thank you!
Terrific explanation with easy to follow visual examples. Total game changer. I am working hard on learning to harmonize my vocals, lately i found waves harmony but it does not alwags trigger the intended harmony. This, although more tedious works, is a good workaround. Ty 🦄🌠
A great tool. A great lesson. Thank you!
Awesome video. Extremely useful. Thanks!
Amazing..I love these masterclasses !
Thanks a lot. A real eye-opener.
this video was super helpful - thank you
this is what i need, love and hug from Indonesia Sir!
First time I used Melodyne we discovered we could use Melodyne to re-work vocal melodies and worn-out harmonies. Once that's all sorted out, my artist can ding the new lines, and if they can't hit the changed lines, that's okay, cos I've still got the Melodyned lines 😁
Best of both worlds, excellent!
@@celemony Indeed! Melodyne is easily one of my favorite composition tools. Thanks for it!
This is amazing, thanks!
wonderful helpful tutorial, thank you so much!
Amazing explanation!
Insightful and comprehensive
Thanks Rich I learn lots of ideas from you
thanks, downloaded, all works!
Hello David.
First of all, thank you for the great tips you have already given me. They have helped me many times.
But this tip was particularly helpful because I often work with polyphonic melodies and only have one recorded voice available. I learned a lot. The editing of how I can make the voices sound different is wonderful. Also I never realized, that i can turn notes oon an off. WOW!
Nevertheless, I much prefer to work with separate tracks, as this gives me the opportunity in the DAW to edit the background tracks more individually with effects, etc. (make them quieter, switch them on and off, PAN, etc.)
Best regards
Helmut
Brilliant great tutorial! Thank you
Took me a second to figure out how to add Time Handle spots, and you have to double-click, at least that worked for me. Thanks again for an awesome tutorial! (former SAE student!!!)
Very nice video, learned a lot, thank you!

Great Tutorial. Thanks my brother..
the combination of the videos and the software is like this situation where, as I get things done I planned, all these extra gifts and opportunities are available in the sidelines, all along the way.

Thanks for watching!
Great information 👍👍👍
amazing
Love these! could you perhaps say aloud the key commands you are using when working in the vids?
thanks for sharing this it was very helpful
Great video...
Very very educational, thanks
Master class
Great techniques! I must say I'd definitely have flattened out that ending vibrato on the harmonies, or stretched them out with the time handles. Wobbling in unison really makes a doubled vocal sound doubled.
Thanks! I learned a LOT! I usually duplicate the track a couple of times, that also enable different panning which is important.
Just perfect
Brilliant Rich! I wish I would have had you as my teacher for each and every class I have taken from Kindergarden to the present. I might actually have learned some useful skills in life, had that been the case. Thank you for using simple examples that focus on the topic at hand. (Are you listening other RUclips content creators?😅 😂 🤣)
perfetto! grazie
These lessons are incredibly helpful. Thanks for making these !
Groovy!
Like a Phoenix from a FLAAAAMEEEEEE
Genial! Obrigado
In my opinion, this one is one of the coolest and useful plugin ever created
Aaaawww, thank you very much!
This guy is fkn great. He looks like someone that could kill me for fun, but before he does that, teaches me how to use my Melodyne Studio like an expert ! 🤣
