Building a Timber Frame Hip Roof! (3 Days, 3 Guys)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 30 сен 2024
- Built with rough sawn doug fir post and beam, 2x6" tongue and groove, and SDWS screws.. We constructed this timber frame roof off the back side of the winery to complete the project.
Tight cuts, one shot to get it right, we made it work! Watch along as we finish out one of the biggest builds documented here on RUclips.

Do you enjoy timber framing? Although this was small, it's still a fun process putting it together!
One thing to remember, you have to make sure those cuts are spot on or you'll be ordering material again! We took it slow, made sure the hip was cut correctly, from there it was a simple process, but notching over those 8x8's with the hip was a tricky situation!
Hope you all enjoyed the Winery Build Series, you'll see more from this place later on.. One Final Walk-Through, my favorite 10:00-15:00 of the build compiled into one video, along with the Plywood going back up in the main building! For now though, it's relaxation time!
BANG ON!
Good bang
@T A $55/65 - laborer / carpenter
Looks killer man! Loved seeing the timber frame joinery! Cuts are on point!👌
Keep up the good work..keep the videos coming and Bang On 🤙👍🔨📐
T A Politely tell him $45 again, if you haven’t already. If you lose the job you lose it, which is fine. If you’re legit you cannot afford to work in Aspen for $35/hr.
Yeah and material like that isn't cheap 🤣
Hey matt. Great video as always. Why was Q putting his arms up to lift the beam when u and your father had it. Hahaha lol. Huge fan of your channel. Bang on
Clinton does whatever he feels is right at that very moment. He was lifting it in spirit, LOL.
@@MattBangsWood he's working smarter not harder XD
Great video, but tell that guy never to stand on a ladder like that...40% death in construction are falls 6ft+.
Where is the other guy, Fox?
HEY Matt, this project looks good
I admire people working with passion, I'm not a professional, but I'm starting some woodworking there, I think I will use some tricks in the future ;)
Greetings from Poland
BANG ON!!!
I've been doing carpentry for almost 20 years. And I come home to watch carpentry on RUclips. Love watching your content.
Hey Matt great video content!!! Really enjoyed watching it....at least when Clinton wasn’t standing in the way of the camera, lol. Great work on the beam details, that roof looked sharp. Your dad standing on the top platform of the ladder turned my stomach a little. He’s such a Tarzan! Amazing how many tools it took to dress those beams. Consider adding a cordless Makita 36 volt chainsaw to the group for cutting the beam ends. If you run out of content for the next videos, how about showing us your truck and/or hopefully you have some Las Vegas homebuilder show videos still to post?
u are the best framer I've ever seen and I've been around for long time
Far from it! Just enjoy what I do is all. We have a good time working, for the most part.
Far superior out there though!
Hi Matt. Well done!! Looks fantastic. Can't wait to see the next project. Enjoy the day. Ray L
great work Matt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! looks awesome!!!!! miss seeing Fox though you guys have a great crew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that is not a step...."Dad, Do as i say son not as i do" lol Great Job. Looks amazing. I have stacked a log cabin and that timber framing reminded me of being a heirloom furniture maker where all your work is seen and not covered by any fancy trim piece.
Cutting those beams and then doing the corner with the decorative cut on bottom looks so good. Looking good!
What band saw did you use?
Great job !! gona sound stupid but i got kinda mad when you brother didnt hold the ladder for you when you were carrying the lumber up the ladder cx
xuy lala That’s Clinton, he’s not his brother.
Good ol' Clinton. He's a good kid, always tries to help. I shoo him off most the time, so he kind of knows now when to help / give space.
Excellent series, really enjoyed this one Matt. Fantastic job!!
Looking forward to the next series :)
First
Hey Matt where did your shoe go??
Bye Bye Makita... Lol, Everything turned out Awesome. Bonfire on the Beach... Nice! Since you don't Drink, Tell Pops to Drink a Couple for me... Lol Take Care Brother.
Matt, great work
Can you show in a future video the method you used to cut the osb to fit on the hip?
Did you use the framing square or a tape measure ? I would love to see the framing square method shown.
Thanks for the amazing channel
icebandithockey it's simple on a framing square. It's run of common rafter one side, true length common rafter on other.
The construction company I work for makes us lift everything we dont get nothing fancy to lift the beams I wish...
Damn that looks good! Like putting a giant puzzle together
That came out fantastic .... super great vid addition to your channel
@ 22:22 where’s your shoe?
Never mind you’ve answered later in video
I wish I could have 4D video because whatever I stepped in smelled terrible.
I threw my shoes away.
Awesome video, loved the winery build. 🔨🔨🤟🤟
Hey wassup man I like the way you work, by the way my is Luis Velarde I’m starting my company in Vegas LV REMODELING LLC and you know what I have learned a lot from you thank you
I was with you until you did a scarf joint at the overhang. Not understanding that. Was the 45 degree beam engineered on the one corner? It looks like it exceeds the 1/3/2/3 rule for the overhang.
Great series Matt. Hope they gifted you a few bottles. 👍
Very nice work. Looks awesome. Super cool you get to work side by side with your old man. I cant wait to get my oldest son (15) out there this summer. This was great build series for sure. Keep up all the hard work and always Bang on Brother!🤘
How would I go about getting one of those Panella Construction hat's? Keep up the great vids!
Love the videos man doing a great job. Just wondering though, whats the pay like for carpenters and laborers where you're at. I'm all the way in New Jersey so I'm curious to see if there is a substantial difference
This dude is the Billy Strings of carpentry …. If you know, you know
You guys did great job out there, hopefully in future videos you may show us how to layouts and cut the hip and angles.... Can't wait to see next project bro
Wheres fox matt
#math
I have your same portable band saw. Do you know where I can send it for repairs?
@mattbangswood, Bro what work pants are those on day 3 look comfy and functional af.
Do as I say, not as I do lol. Standing on the top of the A-frame ladder not recommended for 99% of home owners 😀
10:00 Tough Makita impact driver bounces on the concrete and keeps on going...
That’s why my tools never last long, I tend to be rough on things. It still worked though!
I’ve dropped my dewalt impact off a few 16 foot roofs with no issuss
I'm curious where you found that woman who was too weak to do her job? Can you return her to her 3rd world nation or are we stuck with another parasite?
This is like watching my brother working but I would only have to fix half of it
Nice job broski. N that's a pretty bright foot n leg!! Lol
What kinda of bandsaw do you guys use. New subscriber here keep up the awesome videos
Nice job, looks great!
Excellent work!!! Definitely looks better to have the jacks lie up.
Love the way timber frame looks when done well like this. Keep up the good work!
Beam cutting measure twice cut once Love those days when I have to cut beams as lol
Good to see a new video Matt looks good
A video that doesn't teach how to is wordless.. sorry but is truth
You and your boys killed the details on this one dude, and those 8x8’s 😍
What do those posts cost in California? They’re about 3$ a board foot here
I’ll check and see, pricing wasn’t too bad. We originally priced for redwood, only to find out it’s DF!
Wheres fox???? What did i miss????
Fox was on vacation in January, this little roof was pre-filmed a bit, as most of my content is. He'll make a comeback soon.
Music sounds like Millie vanillie
Nice 30 mins video to end this build 💪🏻💪🏻
that tiny bandsaw was handy!
They're perfect for making cuts like that! Quick and easy.. Our lumber yard charges $5.00 to run the blade through one, so if you've got a fairly detailed corbel, each one can run you $30-40.00. Portable band saw only runs $1,500-2,500.00!
@@MattBangsWood Wow thats much! i bet the beams costs a fortune aswell...
I certainly enjoyed this series and the finishing touches on the roof extension look great.
Beaut joints 👌👏👏👏👏🏴
Did I see a drop cut on the bevel? You got skill sets brother man! And pops doing the high wire as usual. I like this tribe thing. My son came up, bang'n nails, and liken it.
Drop cut on the bevel was one of the only ways, super odd cutting that ting. It's a team effort, that's for sure!
One last comment...I don't care how much you pay me...I ain't sitting in front of a moving circular saw 🤔
If you don’t trust at all the people you’re working with, I’d be afraid to show up to work period.
How much was that little add on?
22:25 one shoe???
Jason Messersmith he had a stinky foot from stepping in a drain hole.
Ohh. I thought it was from breaking in the the best boots ever. Great work.
No offense but you americans brag about a simple frame that you build with 6 plus proffesional tools that in Europe we build with a hammer and some nails .
6 professional tools.. 🤣 Why don’t you guys use the right tools for the job?
Standing on the top of a step ladder is cringe worthy
Can’t wait to see the next big project.
Let me think, set a beam by hand or use the machine
Your dad is the best.
" They are heavy"
I like your saw...the red one...nice..
Beautiful job guys!
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK !!!!
I notice you're using a milwaukee M18 leaf blower. I'm looking into getting one for myself but I'm a little suspicious about an electric blower, and would like to hear your thoughts on it. Is it the M18 FUEL or the regular one? Another excellent video btw, keep up the good work.
Lmao the beginning😂 0:53
Very nice job. I have a question though. On the roof after you had your t&g decking down you put osb sheathing over top of it. Was that required or just something done to match the existing because it seems like the 2x T&G would be plenty sufficient to span across the rafters.
Looks AWESOME Matt!!!!! Love the work that you and the boys do!! What type of fasteners are you using on your timber framing?
Good construction but get little giant ladders, much safer and versatile than these deathtrap ladders u got,you can easily fall off these
That is not timber framing.
I probably missed it but, where the helled your shoe go.anyway you guys are killin it,those cuts are spot on.
Currently I work in Germany and they tend to make jokes about American wood framed houses because they use masonry as a standard, btw wicked framework!
can i watch you guys build house in person i would like to learn but can’t afford school.
Really enjoyed this vid, tying into existing home/building mace it an interesting twist from your new construction work.
Great content and work again, now awaits the commentors who will say " 3 days 3 men?" i could have done that with 2 men in 12 hours with my arms tied behind my back.
Because obviously they post videos showing their superior skills...oh wait they dont...
Yeah i dont believe a word they say when they wont post footage to back up their claims either... internet trolls? got to love them , they do try hard to sound good at least.
Excellent work ! You boys are good ! I do the same in the UK .just come across your site today . Great to watch 👍😎
Hey buddy what kind of pants are you wearing in this vid? They look comfortable to work in
Damn I think yall did a killer job....everything looks great!!!!
you guys are great chippys BUT that hip cut 💯 proves that you and ya old man are legit , very nice bro 👌👌
What happen to his shoe🤣🤣🤣
Nice beam work
12:24 what's with the one boot on one boot off thing... lol.. AHH, lol. Found out a little bit later, damn that sucks.
Is this in Napa Valley❓
Stunning work. Gaaad I envy you lot across the pond. Keep on banging! 😉🤘
que bueno seria que tuvieras subtitulos al español, he aprendido mucho viendote trabajar, saludos desde Chile
the cuts were tight and perfect you guys are great skilled and talented. Beautiful work!
Very nice pice off work
Whats the longest screw you have put in to lock timber joint? And I didn't catch the screw name. I thought it would be Timberlocks but you called it something else. new sub!
Timberloks made by a different company I believe.. These are Simpson’s screws, SDWS structural screws. I believe the longest in this was 14”? Maybe 16”. I’d have to check.
A nice standing seam metal roof would look wicked nice on there
The new post was not PT right? If not are you concerned about the post rotting? I am building a chicken coop out of some 2x4s but want an natural wood look but I am concerned about not using PT.
Not at all, the post is set on a Post Base w/ a 1" stand off, so it's not touching concrete, nor will water get to it. :)
Chicken coop you'd be fine using regular old 2x4, so long as they aren't in the dirt, or on concrete directly.
Love it
Was he framing barefoot about 22:50??? Hope he didn't drop something on one of those steel tipped sneakers :)
Nope, stepped in a NASTY drain full of old nasty stuff.. 🤢
I love your videos bud!! I can watch all day
BRILLIANT BROTHER
MATT A FUCKIN GOAT MAN
Its 2020 get some little giant ladders, step it up bros?( Caribbean builder, nyc
Never liked Little Giants, not sure of their newest line up.
How much did this entire project cost?? Insane craftsmanship guys, keep it up.
I don't know the exact dollar amount, but from ground up.. I'd say this addition is somewhere between $2,000,000 and $2,500,000..
