In the early 70's, during the beginnings of what became known as the "Jesus Movement," a group of young, long-haired, bearded musicians, desiring to express their new-found faith in Jesus Christ through music, formed a band called Love Song. Using a mixture of folk, rock, pop, and country, Love Song's music was entirely new and unique for the Christian music world.
The music was fresh, sometimes radical, and yet, truly inspirational for a generation of young people searching for truth and it blazed the path for what we know today as 'contemporary Christian music.' Many called them the Christian "Beatles" at that time and their 1972 debut album is now considered a true classic, voted the #7 contemporary Christian album of all time by CCM magazine. - (one-way.org)

This music was truly a Love Song to me in 1972 when the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart. I had a rock and roll band but now I had really something to sing about. Down in Florida for the Easter break surfing the east coast. He answered my life questions and the Music was something I could relate to, it spoke my language, it was my upper room. There is power in the name of JESUS.

My parents sang this with the group they were in. I am now 49 and was a little girl at that time in the 1970s. I just had it in my head for some reason, and found it on here! How amazing!

    We're all gathered here
    Because we all believe
If there's a doubter in the crowd
We ask you not to leave
Give a listen to His story
Hear the message that we bring
Feel the faith swell up inside you
Lift your voice with us and sing
Accept Him with your whole heart
And use you own two hands
With one reach out to Jesus
And with the other, bring a friend
Many know Him well, others just by name
If you don't know for what He stands,
    You've really much to gain
With faith you can move mountains
These are common words but true
    We aren't quite a mountain
But He's moved us here to you

Hace 30 años fui tocado por Dios escuchando esta canción. Y hoy, una vez más siento que mi corazón ha sido tocado. Doy gracias a Dios por ello.

I was blessed with the privilege of playing lead guitar to lead this song among hundreds of teenagers in the mid 70's. This was one of my most favorite, and there were many beautiful songs being written and shared about Christ during those years.

Tommy Coomes of Love Song wrote: "I was staying with my parents for a short while in early 1970, paying off a court fine, and working nights. I had been to Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, California about three or four times and was intrigued by what I'd seen there - true Agape love that was ageless, color blind and saw past financial and social status. I was amazed that I could exist on this planet for 24 years and never see or know these things - almost like they were the best kept secret in the Universe.
I was reading my "Good News For Modern Man" every spare moment and was deeply moved by how much Jesus cared for people. I had never read the Bible for before. (It's amazing how much we accept as being true without checking things out for ourselves.) By the way, aren't you glad that God is not troubled by an honest question or an inquisitive mind.
One afternoon an old friend named Chuck Butler came by to show me a lyric he'd just written. Chuck and I had played in bands together - he's a truly great singer, but did not play an instrument at the time. He had also seen what God was doing at Calvary Chapel and couldn't help but write a song about it. (By the way, look up Psalm 40:1-3 and you'll see what I mean.)
I was totally floored by the lyric - it said it all. He had captured the essence of true faith and discipleship. "With one reach out to Jesus, and with the other bring a friend." It's what we felt and knew to be true. Chuck had an idea for how the melody on the chorus should go and asked me to write the music.
I knew this was something from God - not just another song. I stared at that piece of paper for two days, prayed and would go to my old upright piano from time to time to try and find what I was hearing. That's the way it often works best - almost like a Heavenly tape recorder starts playing and I wind up taking dictation. (Maybe a little bit of "Seek and you'll find.")
To this day I think I often pray better with an instrument in my hands and a love song in my heart - using my own "Two Hands."

This song is simply wonderful. I cannot think it would upset anyone at all, Like the group's title, this song simply broadcasts Love and love alone, freely available from God.

One of my all time favorites. We did this in The Last Psalm, a Christian band out of Garden City and Lakin, KS. We traveled most of KS, down into TX and OK the first part of the summer (2.5 months), and then the NE USA the last 30 days in August of 1976, touring about 8,000 miles, circa 45 ministry concerts that summer, Great memories serving the Lord in music.

We formed a Christian Band in 76 and would play this one in churches. Funny how back then if you had a bass guitar and drummer they would boo us out of the pulpit. Most of what we did was similar to this, so it wasn't really rock, but boy there were some strong opinions in those days.

The Christian band I had in the 70's ran into similar soured opinion over our original music that was "very tame" for then lol. But we knew what God wanted us to play and sing for that time. I still don't regret the music we played then. Praise God for His Love.

@@pbailey232 I knew in my heart it was good to do, but as a young Christian I never knew the devil was active inside the church. I hadn't really learned about suffering for Christ's sake until later. Thank God for apostle Paul...and Jesus.

This song I think was done by a group called Children of the day. I think that it was written by Chuck Butler who son is the drummer for Switchfoot.

wasabivan79 Yes, this song was released the year before (1971) by Children of the Day, the first of the Maranatha bands to release their own album. Debby Kerner followed the following year, and then group called The Way. For some reason I do not know, Love Song didn't go & release albums on Maranatha label even though they had 2 songs on a compilation album call Everlastin' Living Jesus Concert (Maranatha). If anyone knows the answer to this then please let us know?
