I first heard "Margaritaville" when Jimmy opened for the Eagles in a 1977 concert. He closed his set with that song. Drew the largest ovation of the night - just a little louder that "Hotel California." Great concert night.
I'm a huge Jimmy Buffett fan and always will be (RIP Jimmy) but I never liked the way he did this song live. It lost the feelings of resigned despair and regret that I love about the original record version. Too many musicians on stage and too cruise-ship lounge act-ish IMO. Always felt rushed. His concerts were big events though. And his live version of Southern Cross by CS&N was a joy.
