Speedrunning EVERY Level on This Cartridge!

- A bit different than most of my videos have been lately, let me know what you think of it :) There's definitely an interesting dynamic here- I've had world record in the first game, currently have world record in the second game, have a vague idea of all the levels in the third game, and have barely a clue of all the levels in the fourth game. Hopefully you enjoy all the moments that go well, and all the moments that didn't go so well. And hopefully you enjoy the fun facts and dialogue that happened along the way!

Hey! Obviously I'm not the best at this multi-game run but my good friend Roopert83 is top tier at this stuff! Go follow him on Twitch!

thanks for the content, love u :3

The new format you're giving to your videos makes it really easy to watch highlighted content from the streams. Highlights of individual clips could be interesting to see.
i was on the stream!!
Passing Super Mario in 5 minutes. But, it's All Stars version
(To make the joke more obvious, Pasadano Super Mario en 5 minutos. Pero, es la versión All Stars [sorry, not a Spanish speaker had to use Google Translate])
Shoutouts to Karl Jobst for his video on Badabun as well as Nintendo for making Super Mario All Stars, otherwise I wouldn't make this joke.
Hopefully Kosmic sees this joke, it took 10 minutes to make
30:00 “Of course you would expect a hard level. Instead perhaps the easiest level in the run.”

Kosmic 2 years later: Speedrunning every level on a 500in1 cartiridge
Is it gonna have breaks like 100% BotW does?

"Believe it or not, I have the world record in this run" Kosmic 2020
@fuwa fuwaris mvp
I remember my mum playing SMB2 when I was a kid, and she played nearly exclusively as Peach, so it always feels kind of strange watching runs of it where people use Toad almost all the time.
My cousins (and also I) would always play as kamikaze Luigiiiiiii...

I never beat Wart as a kid. I got to him probably 100 times but always choked
it’s spelled like mom not mum
@Jax The Epic [Spongebob Gaming] not in the UK it isn't.
Nintendo while making this game: *Yo, we heard we like Mario games, so we put 4 Mario games in a Mario game*
everyone in the year of release liked that
@bruh this version doesn't include world, theres another version that does
Imagine: mario 3d world + mario 3d land + mario galaxy 1 and 2 + mario 64 + mario sunshine + mario odyssey, THE BEST GAME WITH MARIO GAMES EVER
@@thatonemuffin4570 not sure what Nintendo systems that would fit on.
@@intensellylit4100 You can probably fit that on the next Nintendo console, after the Switch.
I’d love to see an All Stars + SMW cart run :)
Roopert83 is your man!
Kosmic thank you for shouting him out!
screw it man, just play all mario games in one go

Kosmic so excited for that! :D
"The one that has vegetables" is probably the best descriptor of SMB2, ever.
Other speedrunners when they get a world record: OMG OMGH HNSBDSCBXFUSFHGDJSK **intense screaming**
Kosmic: o look at that i did it aye
Yes
"This is exactly what I wanted to do!"
Such a timeless reaction
Love these kind of runs, Kosmic! Keep up the good work! All stars has such a neat art style
this was genuinely so fun to watch and i laughed really hard at the "this is the easiest level in the game *dies immediately*" thing. i'm not a speedrunner or even a gamer but your videos are always really fun to watch and i love your commentary as you play.
Oh my god, so I’ve never played Mario all stars myself, but when I was younger I played a ton of those little Mario flash games, and I think most of them used the all stars aesthetic because seeing that style and hearing that music and sound style just gave me a massive explosion of nostalgia
There was a Super Mario for the Megadrive homebrew that used the smb1 all stars sprites.
@@aedd3307 Those were fake hacks from other Sega games with Mario sprites put in.
@@jonathanbeshansky4932 The one I played was a Chip N' Dale (NES) clone but for the Mega Drive, never found a game that played like that one for the Mega Drive, so I think it was a homebrew
Now you should speedrun the whole Mario series, which include great games such as:
Mario's Time Machine
Mario is Missing
Mario Hotel
and a lot of other very fun and well-designed games!
And don't forget the beautiful library of the virtual boy!
Don’t forget Mario’s Typing Marios and Typing 2
By far my favorite game is mario is missing, it is just so entertaining to play and the wall jumps as luigi are so good
But I really hope he doesn't speedrun the really bad Mario games. Like Mario World, Mario 64, and Mario Galaxy. Those suck.

i finally understand the profile pic
i just remembered that SMBTLL has more than 8 worlds, man i don't wanna imagine how tired you felt after doing this...
Needs more tentative pizza eating and unscrewing of Coke bottles
And also moving without physically touching the controller
And impossible heart rates

I request that the All-Stars flagpole glitch be dubbed "Swagpole"
I just love Kosmic's sense of humor and all his quips during this video like "Birdo on Ice". 😹

When the teacher asks a question you should know the answer to since you've been in their class the entire semester, but the answer is such a specific and obscure piece of info that you feel like you knew it at one point and have forgotten it.
Oddly Specific.
Thats a long joke
It's nice to see someone playing All Stars for a change.
Nothing beats the feeling of getting the notification of a new Kosmic video. I love the content you have been putting out lately. You put so much effort into the videos and deserve more recognition.
Keep it up!!!!!
Thank you!! Glad you enjoy 😊
The amount of hand eye coordination and memorization this requires is unfathomable to me
Only six likes oof low point
Kosmic is the only RUclipsr that can make a full playthrough of All Stars fun to watch
Found your channel. I totally love your chilled, hilarious approach to these runs. Makes such a welcome change to the classic "shout-whatsupyouguys-at-the-camera" of almost every other youtube gamer. I genuinely LOLed at the attempted clipping. Great work!!
lol, i am genuinely not good at smb2/3 but I'm glad you enjoyed 😂
Pfff, I beat SMB2 when I was, like, 5. Free game dude.
Actually, I'm playing all the classic Mario games for my 4-yo nephew (he likes to watch me play, not confident enough yet to try them by his own), and I'm playing them "backwards". SMW no problem, but, while I DID beat All-Stars as a "child" (not 5), SMB3 is currently giving me a very hard time (I got a few game overs against Roy), and I'm dreading the moment we arrive to SMB2 (Lost Levels without saying).
This was a really fun run to watch! Thanks for all the content, Kosmic!
I always amazed and excited to watch Kosmic speedrunning whatever the game is, it always amazing to see that fast reflex.
I keep coming back to this video. It’s so comforting.
I'd love to see Mitchflowepower try and speedrun Mario 1 while Kosmic speedruns Mario 3.
Words cannot express how sad I am that I missed this live.
Great video regardless!
EDIT: Also, at 13:10, I can confirm that you did in fact press down (for ~33 frames, in fact).

This was the first video game I ever owned, I love seeing good old fashioned All Stars! Major nostalgia trip
38:40 "Look how much we're living and learning. Mostly l..living."
44:52 that's the sound Mario makes when he dies too :)
I know that this vid is 2 years old, but I just recently found your channel, Kosmic. And I love the content. Watching your SMB 2 (USA) run I remembered something when you killed the 3 small Fry Guys with one mushroom block. The NES version had a quick kill feature. Pause the game and press Up & A+B on controller 2. Now, let me get to why this comes in handy. In the initial release of the game, there were some bugs that would cause you to get stuck. One is fighting Fry Guy at the end of world 4. If you were to kill 3 or all 4 small Fry Guys with one blow, there is a chance that the door would not appear. This is where the quick kill comes in handy. Apparently, there were a few more bugs that were discovered after the game's initial release, and Nintendo published version 2.0.
That was such a clean edit at 30:15
Congrats kosmic on 50k subs it’s really exciting to see this Channel grow so fast!
I love how you're enjoying all this
I love your speedruns man :D
It's funny, if Badaboon didn't steal your video, I'd never have found you xD but I'm so glad I did, this is my favourite kind of content on youtube and you're great at it :D
Badabun? Bababoom? Badabing badaboom? Whatever. That speedrun thief guy lol
Super Mario Bros 2 shall always be remembered as the Super Mario Bros game that has vegetables.
This cartridge is literally my childhood
Bro you really pulled that one off, I would never even try SMB2 in all-stars. Good job!
You are my favorite speed runner! Keep it up!
#Kosmic Yeah, the brick break physics for SMB1-TLL is actually bugged. There is a rom hack out there that fixes the bug. Makes it to where you bounce back off the brick block as you should.
I grew up with this version of the game and I still love it
Olkofj
Honestly the talk on SMB2 localization was really interesting, I'd never looked at it like that.
These remakes were actually damn good.
fuck yes, something decent to watch whilst eating and then going to sleep.
Excellent thoughts on the history of DDP becoming SMB2.
Basically a super mariohour challenge but with more than one hour!
I just played all the all star games on the switch and without the reverse time mechanic I would not have made it.
SMB1: Just normal springs, nothin' weird...

I decided to start watching this video while, coincidentally, in the middle of playing the same game. I was playing, at the time, World 6-2. By 7-3 He Had overtaken Me. Speedrunners are too powerful
>claims to suck at a certain Mario game >plays said game like a boss
*Welcome to Kosmic world*
1:01:18 is my favourite moment in any speedrunning video
not only was Doki Doki Panic made by the same developers as SMB, but from what I've heard, prior to the development of Lost Levels, Doki Doki Panic started out as the original prototype for Mario 2. The story goes, they built a brand new prototype for Mario 2 from the ground up, scrapped it early on in favor of Lost Levels, revived it for Doki Doki Panic as part of a promotional tie-in, then retooled it as the international version of Mario 2 after the American branch test played Lost Levels and decided they couldn't release it here because of it's difficulty and similarity to SMB.
alsp, fun fact: Lost Levels actually created a decent amount of confusion as it wasn't uncommon to see screenshots of it featured in advertisements for NES games that you'd find in old comic books, listing it as Super Mario Bros 2, and sparking a debate ampng a lot of the young people (those around my age at the time) regarding what was or wasn't the "real" Mario 2, years before we learned about Doki Doki Panic, years before All Stars introduced us to Lost Levels. In fact, for some of us (myself included), the inclusion of Lost Levels in All Stars confirmed what we'd already suspected, that the Mario 2 we saw in those screenshots actually was the "real" Mario 2 🤣
WAIT WHAT I stopped playing after 8-4 because I thought that was the end of TLL. Now I gotta play again to meet Doug
What edition? If NES, then how many times have you beaten the first 8 worlds?
30:09 *Curb Your Enthusiasm theme plays.*
As far as I'm concerned, Lost Levels IS Super Mario Bros 2
The American version is based on a completely different game for some reason
Duval In The Wall Doke Doke Panic is the game btw
Watching kosmic play smb2us is like watching The Edge of Tomorrow.
Live. Die. Repeat.
55:51 I was today years old seeing that sprite of big bertha for the first time landing back in the water.
it's rare but nice and refreshing to actually see somebody not spouting the same revisionist history that nearly everybody else does. all too often I constantly hear people exposit how "Nintendo saved the video game industry" when what they actually did was revitalized the American market. And that's not the same thing. I pretty much never hear anybody tell that story with transparent honesty so I wanted to give you props for that.
Congratulations on 50k subs
I wanna see the Speed Run community try and get the Highest high score on this game. HighScore All Stars. Only the Best of the Best.
I love your videos!!! Your the best!

The first Mario game I ever played (at a demo station at a shop) was Super Mario 2. I was confused by the vegetables and not being able to kill enemies by jumping on them.
I don't think I've ever seen the All-Stars version of SMB3. It is pretty cool!
This comment feels so weird to me,as a kid i thought it was the only version that exists :D
This run made me Subscribe. Now think if this was the All Stars + Super Mario World version... I think a 4 hour stream :D
Would love to see you collect every coin and see how your time is then lol. Is there a WR for that kind of run? Great video
1:18 perfectly sync skip
In SMB 2J seen here the water pit in 1-2 was removed and the red pirahna plants first appear a full world earlier compared to the original...

Thanks for pointing out that Lost Levels was SMB2 in Japan.
Kind of sad you aren't doing the one that includes Super Mario World.
That carts rarer tho, right?
Rarer but not that rare
Casually, I only ever got to 8-2 with warps. The movement physics in SMB1 rubs me the wrong way and and that one-tile jump in 8-1 shows the issues I have with the jump timing in SMB1. I've also had soooo many jump inputs eaten at that one pit near the end of 4-1 but even that is much less than the amount of times I've died in 8-1.
The only time the game eats inputs is certain circumstances when swimming. It's super common for people to push jump right before they land and marios not on the ground yet
I figured out a setup for the 8-1 one-tile jump that's slow but consistent for me. You walk (not run), do a full jump just as you're about to fall in the pit to the left of the one-tile-wide column, then tap left just before you land on the one-tile-wide column. Then you walk left a bit, and run to the right. Do a full jump just as you're about to fall in the pit, and you should be on the ground to the right of the one-tile-wide column.
Ok, Kosmic last stream I said the physics for the piranha plant were different. It wasn’t a question I was just saying the hit box was different.
Oh, I can't remember exactly what happened but maybe i misread what you said
Weird bullet bill launcher sprite at 20:45. Interesting
You should play the GBA versions next
Thanks for stating some of the differences.
Nice moves in The Lost Levels
39:20 The hammer bros throw the hammers to the music, i wonder if it was programmed for that to happen just by holding b and right from the start
29:20*
It's also important to point out that it was Nintendo of America who rejected SMB2-J. They said it was too hard and too similar to SMB1. Nintendo of Japan had to come up with a solution so they reskinned a game that was already pretty much a Mario game.
Neat run! I think an un-edited version would be cool, barring perhaps deaths and re-tries at levels.
Check out his vod channel
9:22 idk man. I always had a much harder time passing 8-1 for some reason. It's just a pain in the ass to beat for me as apposed to literally every other level in the game. I think 8-1 has made me reset my console more than 4-2, and 1-2 combined.
That one jump where you have to land on the one block wide piece of ground in the huge pit gave me fits as a kid
I can't get over the fact that in SMB3 All-Stars, Mario does not have gloves.
Why did you curse me with this knowledge
He does in gameboy version
