The way that she highlights her other trio members is part of her musical maturity. That a young girl can command the respect of professional musicians, have a trio under her own name and highlight all its members without demanding the spotlight on herself is all a part of her genius. She is great.

Outstanding number, Ms. Emily. While it always helps to have great musicians around you, you are, without doubt, a great composer and artist, and you just keep getting better. Unbelievable!

TIKTAK190 Great performance as usual. Two questions 1. Who was the cellist at this concert? 2. What was the stool that is in front of Peter for?

sadams12345678 I don't remember the name of the Cellist she was a local Minneapolis gal and the stool was never used don't know why it was there

I love this and see it as in a somewhat similar style to Tiger Lily - she is treading new water now, perhaps Indigo belongs in this new direction as well. As always she is using the other players a great deal - bring her orchestral skills into play even in a trio environment.

+Keith Tinkler - Yes, indeed, and you might even add she is now composing these new jazz works strictly for the trio environment. Whereas with the "Diversity" album, Quincy sort-of retro-fitted her earlier piano pieces to be played by a jazz trio. Some of those numbers from "Diversity" came off well for a jazz trio ("Q", "Hot Peppers") others I feel did not ("Northern Lights", "Alika"). It certainly will be interesting where the next album will go. Most likely a combination of her pieces since "Diversty", and brand new pieces. Personally I would also enjoy an album of her orchestral works.

+John Beall Yes you are right. She has some rather different endings too from her earlier work, innovative to my ear, but I don't know the jazz repertoire.

I'd love to know if Peter and Mark's solos are improv or if Emily composed those sections. I'm guessing improv?

TIKTAK190 thank you for posting this new song of Emily, but why only one? She plays only one song in that concert?

To much drum by 1\2, and the drumer should know that, I think, for what it's worth she just needs a good snarr drumer.. But then maybe thats the way she likes it.'.
I have been a fan for 10 yr's, so maybe I'm a little pocesive (sp?)

Tory Imsland Yep ,I'm with you ,too much of the rim shot. I suspect that the recording mics weren't well placed

I suspect that the stage was poorly miked and/or mixed. It's true that the drums dominate, but the piano almost sounds like it's being picked up by someone else's mic. I bet it sounded better to the musicians and maybe those in the audience than it does to us. Nonetheless, her musicianship is so mature it's scary. In interviews she talks like a kid, and a refreshingly polite one at that, but she plays jazz like an old soul. I don't know how she does it.

+Rick Goodin I agree with every point you make here about Emily Bear. I think I am turning into her most avid United Kingdom fan.... not least for her music, but for the admirable sort of person she is.
