- There is one upgrade for the 996 that I think is absolutely essential now that I have done it on my 996. Watch the video to find out what it is!! good news is, its cheap and easy, and the best way to transform the driving feel of the car with minimal effort!!
(Also I fix the tears in my seat using Leather Magic, which....works???)

I do agree with your ethos my friend, not restoring but greatly improving large unsightly/annoying issues (spending the same money on a nicer example 911 would be the better option than restoring if we are going to throw 0000’s at it). Also doing it not as cheap as possible but to where the value of money spent feels justified
EXACTYL!!! I just wanna be able to drive and enjoy, I were gonna throw tons of money at it, I'd have bought something nicer to begin with!!

Hi Elijah, I'm glad I found your channel. Not sure about the leather repair as your bolsters were too far gone. However, I'm intrigued about the short-shift kit. I decided to buy a 997 GT3 shifter as it fits perfectly but was VERY expensive. Good to see budget alternatives. Let me know if it still shifts well.
Yea the leather repair has held up decently, and is WAYY better than before. But it was definitely a stretch to repair instead of recover. The shifter still is working great!

Man, you’re not kidding about the slop in the stock shifter. I may have to invest in that Schnell kit someday.

I have a similar shifter set to go in when my car gets out of winter storage. I scored a used unit already installed in the shifter box :). How did the silver paint turn out? I need to do my driver door handle and the frunk release lever.
I like the paint, I also need to respray my door handles as well. It doesn't match perfectly, but it looks pretty good. I used a gloss clear coat over the paint and sanded everything nice and smooth and I am really happy with the turnout.

How did you take the shift knob apart?
I basically wedged a flat head screw driver underneath the plastic (very carefully) and then worked my way around until I got the whole thing off. It is difficult to work it off, but it is designed to come off, so it will with a little effort.
