This is a cult classic. And it took me a while to get into this Album, hated it at first but I later realized this is one of his most interesting, creative, horrific, twisted, and vulnerable and honestly genius album. Even Eminem himself doesn’t love this album but to me it’s one of his best.
I loved it from the get-go, because it's a PURE Slim Shady album. It really cuts to hear it so denigrated, especially by him. I would prefer to see the man proud of his art, and especially when it did a perfect job of bringing back his style after a couple of dull albums (and then followed by much worse, in my view). I can understand his being annoyed that he didn't notice himself doing those various accents, but to me it takes nothing away.

This album really showcased Eminem's lyrical ability and insane word play , people that thought the content was too dark to or disturbing to consider this one of his best albums just don't have the brain power to understand the lyrical masterpiece this truly was. Great reaction man, keep doing your thing.
He's never actually said he was sexually abused like on Insane but it could be that he took something that did happen and exaggerated it to go with the demented vibe. Boy did people hate this shit when it first dropped, but after a few years once people looked past the accents it's now considered a great album by many. Funny how albums can grow on people over a long time.
People actually liked it after the first listen. It was about a month after the release people started to hate it. Maybe the beats and humour carried it though the first listen for quite a few people.

The Bagpipes from Baghdad track on there was tuned off. It sounds a little faster than it should. I think you'll like it better if you listen to the original version.
stay wide awake second verse is widely considered one of the best, if not the best, technical verse of all time - that entire song is absolutely crazy! your reaction was actually perfect for it
By far his darkest release to date. And that says alot considering some of the songs he released in his early days. But he really unleashed his mania on this one. And its super underrated.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Most people don't, or can't, see the brilliance in this album. I fell in love with it the first time I heard it. His rhymes and flows are crazy. Amazing storytelling too.
I bought this CD for my son when it came out. He was around 14 at the time and I failed to notice the warning on the cover etc. On realising this mistake I decided to listen to it and read the lyric sheet accompanying the album. I will be honest as a lifelong fan of Heavy Rock/Metal and hitting my early 40’s I thought what the fuck give it a go. I was blown away if I am honest like you I feel it’s a quality piece of work if not a bit full on for a 14 year old pubescent half man. Needless to say I kept the Eminem CD and handed him the Black Album by Metallica and told him to get his laughing gear round that instead. He loved it I loved it and it all worked out fairly well. Variety they say is the spice of life 🤘🏼😎
My all time favorite Eminem album, the horrorcore (this is a bloody beautiful sub genre of rap) masterpiece Relapse. Unfolding like the greatest films of the horror genre, It’s a dark work of storytelling genius…on top of the sick beats, rhyming, metaphors and flow. But you have to do the deluxe version Relapse:Refill’s bonus cuts that are 🔥🔥🔥🔥my favorite track of the entire project, and one of the greatest tracks in concept that he’s ever made, My Darling, is found there. It’s not a whole prescription without the refill 😂 edit: people who like metal always tend to like this album. And did you notice when he sampled Metallica’s One in one of the tracks? Was really surprised you didn’t mention it.
Stay Wide Awake is one of my all time favorite songs. The lyrics are metaphorically off the charts... it's all about drug addiction from the perspective of the drug talking to your brain and addiction talking to your brain. It's pure genius!
Love this reaction man, the fact that you listen so intently to the lyrics is a rare thing nowadays. Please next do the Eminem Show, it’s Em’s best album; ever. period. You Have to listen to it
3 AM is a great horror/halloween type track. Reminds me of some of the fantasy shit he used to do in the SSLP days. Just off the wall, folky, horrorcore type of scenarios and fun shit, exhibiting amazing flow and wordplay.
You should really react to his group D12’s album “Devil’s Night”, it has some of his best verses and his group is entertaining as hell since they all seem to compliment each other perfectly.
The song, "Crack A Bottle" with Em, 50 Cent, and Dre won a Grammy for "Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group". Hahah... That's pretty amazing. It's a great song, but I just love that an Em song with those kind of lyrics won a Grammy. And that's 50 Cent's one and only Grammy. Which is also mind blowing (in my opinion).
The song that he out on there in the end is called “Forever,” it’s by Drake featuring Lil Wayne, Kanye West and Eminem so he put it on this LP. The Refill part of the album starts with Forever and has a couple more tracks that you didn’t listen too. You should though.
It's amazing how albums age, I distinctly remember there was a vocal minority of Eminem fans who hated this album when it came out. A lot of fans hated the accents and even Eminem years later commented on how he cringes at this album because of the heavy use of accents to get words to rhyme with one another. I personally love this album, it stayed in my car for months. Great reaction dude
Listening to we made you all these years later , holy shit is it an excellent production. The chorus just fits perfectly and that tambourine steady going off in the background everytime the chorus plays along with the drum roll breakdown before the chorus starts. Unreal.
this is a conceptual masterpiece of an album (in my opinion) horrorcore at it's best but I know it's not for everyones taste lol same song and dance paints an incredible lyrical picture it's amazing and stay wide awake how he flows in a rythym of a piano keys wow... and beautiful song is just BEAUTIFUL

It's weird that the 2 albums that are basically fully produced by Dr. Dre (Encore and Relapse) are the ones that get the most hate. Relapse is a lowkey cult classic - the Scream 2 of rap. Apparently the original tracklist was about 16 tracks and was more of a story concept with Dr. West opening with Em getting back onto drugs and going on a killing spree, ending with him OD'ing again with Deja Vu. Crack a Bottle, Beautful and Underground were tacked onto the end due to leaks and needing more hits. Its a shame, I think Relapse is a badass album with a great, relatable, commentary on drug addiction (especially alcohol and prescription) and some geeky horror references/serial killer references up until the end of Deja Vu. Oh Well. Its a favourite for me.
There’s more to this album actually you didn’t hear. This is the original Relapse and there’s final version called Relapse: Refill with a few more songs. Check them out when you get the chance! Probably my personal favorite Em album and in my opinion the most underrated.
This album is so underrated.. I can tell you fully understand how to appreciate music.. the way you describe the production and just the flow of the album.. I watched this whole damn video in 1 viewing.. GOOD SHIT!!!

You should have reacted to the Eminem Show. Seems like fans are divided between that album and the Marshall Mathers LP on which one is the better album. I live both, but I lean towards the Emi em Show because that was the first of his CDs that I ever heard, and it brought me into rap out of Rock... not completely out of rock, of course, but it made me like rap.
I dont get why ppl thought this was not a very good album, i personally like it, but i also love when he does horror type rap (if that is genre now) just look at "I AM A PSYCHO" with hopsin bob tench9 love that song even know its just about being a serial killer basically.
16:30 After hearing this song many many times and understanding Eminem's background, I take the song "Insane" as the most extreme version of the trouble he faced with his mother and her decisions when Em was an adolescent. Of course the struggle Em had as a kid can definitely be called extreme, the things he talks about in the song are just another step beyond that in his artistic imagination. For example, his mother crushing up Valium in his food or his mother's new boyfriend telling her to stick a cigarette to Em's neck is his reflection of how terrible it felt to him, all done with a brilliant comedic twist.
