- The Vox AC15CH and Marshall DSL20HR are two great sounding and relatively affordable electric guitar amplifier heads. In this video we will be comparing the tones they can produce and how they are very different and unique.
In this video I will be connecting each amplifier head to the same cabinet loaded with a 12” Celestion Neo Creamback speaker. I'll then be playing with a Fender Player Telecaster for some single coil tones. And for Humbucker tones I'll be playing with a Fender Professional Telecaster Deluxe Shawbucker.

Now the real revelation is when you use both in a mix. The Vox hard panned to one side and the Marshall hard panned to the other. They compliment each other so well, it's probably the best combination I've ever heard for rock! Great video as always. Cheers
I will try that! thanks! 🎸👍

The Vox by far. Both clean and dirty. I am just not into the Marshall "sound". Fender and Vox would be my amps of choice. Thanks for sharing.
Lando27Music the vox!!
I see why you are having trouble choosing what you like best. 🤷♂️
If I had to choose I say Vox for cleans and Marshall for dirty. Both sound great tho and I would take either.
I like the cleans of the Vox and the gains of the Marshall
The Vox has such a raw, unrefined and yet usable raunch to it. The Marshall is a classic sound, nice and saturated. Both are great! I choose the Vox for the more complex low gain/cleanish tones and that haphazard, angry gain. Thanks for the comparison!
Couldn't agree more!
Landon! I didn’t realize it was you comparing these two amplifiers! My day just got better 😃
I don't even remember making this one!
AC15CH-CLEAN so good 😍
agreed! :)
Not what I expected, but the Vox totally out rocked the Marshall, which sounded tame in comparison. Great video.
On other videos the Marshall seemed to have better gain on tap. Here it sounded like heavy overdrive crunch.
Great video, really well done!
I listened to this through head phones & put my phone in my pocket so couldn't see what amp you were playing through. Afterwards I went back and watched the video & it turns out I thought the Marshall sounded better 90 percent of the time.
I like each of these amps for different gain amounts with different pickups.
My main amp is a JCM800 Studio that's completely amazing so I guess I'm more of a Marshall guy. That Vox is awesome though.
In my opinion the ac15 comes alive with single coils or Gretsch filtertron style pickups, the DSL loves humbuckers. Personally I’m a Vox guy but both amps do sound cracking especially for the price, if you throw in a hot rod deluxe and run all 3 as a wet dry wet (DSL being your dry amp) it will blow you away.
What do you mean.? Can you explain respectfully asking man.
@@Allguitarinfo by what mate? If you can be more specific I’ll answer best I can.
Vox for clean to light gain, Marshal for mid to high gain.👍👍
Doh!! I can’t make up my mind. I’ll just have to get both. 😄
🎸👍
Fantastic review! So true about switching from one another and not liking the 'new' one, it's normal due to ear fatigue and saturation, tone is all about transitions. Honestly, these amps are simply two different flavours of awesomeness. I'd go Marshall simply because I use more crunch/distortion than clean and the DSL it's marginally better to my ears in that regard. But I dig the VOX a lot for clean(ish) single coil tones.
hey thanks!
they're both so great. the vox kind of has a bit more of an alternative vibe whereas the marshall sounds more rawwwk. vox makes me think of sleater-kinney and marshall makes me think of zeppelin or g&r.
I honestly liked the Marshall's cleans and the Vox's drive more. I'll probably go with the marshall though, since I use pedals for drive and the marshall had an fx loop. Great dmeo!
Did you end up getting it? I'm considering getting one and would like to know what you think of it.
You run your drive pedals through a loop?
I can see why you like them each. I might actually be leaning towards the Vox, but then again, the Marshall is glorious for big rock tones.
I like both for different reasons
Honestly, these are both great amps and if I was forced to choose one, I would probably just flip a coin!
Cmon .i dont wanna choose..i want them both...lol..great video man..
Good choice!
I prefer the Vox. But The real winner ist the deluxe Tele 😍
🎸👍😁
The Vox has a very sweet voice, and IMO it is very tempting for someone into that lush and full tone at lower gain settings. But, if I'd have to choose one, I would go for the Marshall. I think it is a good all-rounder. While its cleans are a bit sterile, its tone goes neat consistently from clean to high gain, cutting more bass in the process. I can't think of high gain rythm tones on the Vox; it would be too flabby - perhaps a complicated EQ-ing before the input could do the trick.
Hey appreciate you leaving your thoughts! Awesome :)
Hi Mihai, the trick to clean up flabbiness on a Vox is a tube screamer. You can use it as a booster with the drive at 0 and the volume pushing the amp - or you can add a little gain if you want. The pedal tightens the amp up and makes heavier sounds more convincing.
Both are fantastic. If I had one, I’d want the other.
I am actually down to these two amps (com o version). Will probably buy the Vox but may add the Marshall. I like both.
Ha! I’m I’m thinking the same
Depends of course on the application, but I generally prefer the Vox, especially on high gain which to my ear has more gritty chime on the high end as opposed to the smoother mid focus of the Marshall.
I have a Vox AC15CH Real Nice amp. Ordered the Marshall DSL20HR for the extra control over Bass Mid Etc. (In both modes) and the good posted reviews. Vox AC15CH can only be adjusted in the Boost mode and I find it difficult at time to achieve the sound I'm after. I basically play clean so not sure what I will gain with Marshall if anything. Hopefully the Marshall will outshine the Vox for me at times but if it doesn't it will at least serve to validate Vox is my best choice. If you don't try something different you'll never know if you missing out on something.
id like to hear your thought on the two after you get them.
My opinion to date.
Marshall better suits Heavier Rock leads and bends.
Vox better for Ballads, Rhythm and Blues.
Vox warmer and Marshall sharper and more aggressive.
They have an area of overlap but I feel it’s small.
If I could only have one or the other for me it would be the Vox because no matter what you’re playing it’s going to sound good whereas the Marshal will shine in harder rock and metal genre.
Vox kills it on cleaner tones, on gain tests it’s like you say it just sounds different but both good ….am trying to decide which to get (in combo form)…one video I’m all about the Vox , the next It’s all about the dsl for me 😂…I’m leaning g towards dsl since I had a 40 years back and loved it (loved the $600 price for a 40w back then too hehe) … nice comparison, thanks
I have a Vox ac4tv that I put through a 2x12 and I’m going to get a Marshall to go with it. Then I might get the ac15 as well just for the hell of it. But I’m quite happy with the ac4.
I've had both and I would choose the AC15 over all the AC4. But that's just me
Landon Bailey thanks for the reply Landon. I’m now 50 and never had a really nice amp, so I think you just convinced me. I deserve it right?
Great job as always landon !! :)
Some great tones all around. Can't be a Tele into either of these things.
👍😁🎸😝
Great vídeo! Vox ac 15 até more organic and have a responsive drive but a like more Marshall style.. drives more linear and have more homogeneous sounds. O have a dsl 40 cr and souds are amazing. Vox is more expansive to.
I preferred the Vox , especially the crunch tone, very nice and on high gain I thought it had a little more character than the Marshall. I couldn't decide which amp's clean tone I liked better. 👍
These are so close. I like the Marshall's extra tone control knobs, but I'd have a hard time chosing its digital reverb over the Vox's true spring reverb.
I know. They both have things the other doesn't. :)
@@landonbailey win-win either way
Did you use the Normal or Top Boost channel on the Vox? Both?
I can hardly remember yesterday 😆. what did you see in the video?
I think you had to put either the eq to 0 or all in the middle ... what's more, you've gotten a lot of treble out of the marshall, and something very common about this amp is that it's quite garish ...
So honestly,,, which one do you end up playing through more? Both have their place and sound. Just curious what your % split of play time on each is.
80/20 Vox being 80.
Vox Amazing!!!
You are me!
Awkward
I want to like the marshall more because Frusciante (my fav) uses them, right? But my ears are liking the vox!. In my speakers, it seems the marshall is more quite in the video? If I turn up the vol when it's marshall time they seem more comparible. Cheers Landon
i like the dsl20h have you thought about checking out a bugera v22 head would like to see a review of it keep up the vids.
hey thanks! I'm aware of bugera but just haven't tries any yet!
I was about buying a vox 15h but then i realized there's no fx loop. No way
that's correct
Thanks for making this. A killer stereo rig it would be, but... my ear says Vox. The Marshall sounds a bit hollow to me. I am looking at a choice between a Marshall Origin 50 ($500!) or a Vox AC30 ($960) head. I can't a/b at a music store where I am, so this really helps.
@Ira Tigerbaum what did you end up getting? I got a Vox ac15c1, because the ac30v2 is just too heavy and loud!
Hi, i have Marshall, and i have still buy the vox, because i think they are best together.
Bye
Un gran saludo 👋 y buen vídeo. Te dejo mi 👍
gracias! 👍👍
My take .... Single coil = VOX, Humbuckers = Marshall
I can see that
I think the dsl needs the bass turned down a bit
too much bass? I didn't notice
I liked the Bass but was wondered, if i Like the marshall more or Just the more Bass :D
I like it chunky. My first guitar amp was accidentally a brand new Bassman 50 and i still use one bass amp in a stereo guitar (or bass) rig. I just saw a Friedman guitar cab with Eminence spkrs which come
in bass cabs. This is a personal preference.
Yeah, DSL is really bassy. Have noticed it playing it live at a rehearsal recently
I prefer the Marshall
cool Jerry! thanks for leaving your thoughts 🎸👍

I like this guy videos but he looks so much like a serial killer
That marshall sounds like ass, the vox destroys it
