I had same thought..
Well, Paul was the reason Rudy got disarmed, so...
A reminder, there was a week-break after Turning Point 3 (Episode 18).
If we didn't have that break, Episode 22 would have aired previous Sunday.
japan has fathers day too it ended with ep becouse time zones
How isn´t there a single answer that says yes. Like did all of you feel nothing this episode, or i am just getting too much into this show?
Paul's last thoughts.
---
"Am I dying?"
"I want to confirm if Zenith was alive or not, at least."
"Not only that, but Norn and Aisha..."
"I wanted to see them again."
"Are they going to school?"
"Have they grown up?"
"Lillia - what kind of reaction will she have to this? Even if it's a pain..."
"Will she cry?"
"Dammit, I'm filled with regrets."
"I don't want to die...."
"Still... there are.. still... so many things I wanted to do."
Rudy: "Father!"
"But..... Oh well..."
"Its better than seeing Rudy die."
"Chin up, my son. Stay positive..."
He smiles one final time.
how do you know?
Did it happen in the novel?
@@mhamadty6720 well duh
@@Lordmaster316??
yeah there's a chapter about paul's last moment in the LN
@@begundal8379 thanks pro 🤝
Rudy is a tricky narrator, his inner dialogues are his thoughts not his feelings, and he doesn’t aware those feelings until they are bring up. He does love Paul and Zenith as his parents.
As an anime only, that is hard to see when both his thoughts and actions point to him not valuing her that much. Sure,he did use her being gone as motivation to keep moving forward a couple of times, but (except for post Eris “betrayal”)you can redirect his motivations to not just her. And the very little we see him thinking about her doesn’t help either.
@@onesmileybaldy8303 You don't see it yet because Rudy is an unreliable narrator and it takes a while for things to sink in, even in the WN/ LN. The entire next arc in the story is Rudy singing paved paradise about how he wishes he'd spent more time with Paul.
Same.
I get being reincarnated into a whole other world, but essentially, his "old" family is no more, as well as his past life.
This new one, where he was raised, fed, washed, clothed and bed by Zenith, Paul and Lillia for 7yrs before becoming Eris tutor should be enough to form Some sort of bond with the "surrogate" parents.
The same way he keeps wondering why he doesn't get a boner when bathing with Aisha is because they ARE his family and he only Fully accepts that in volume 15 at the "summoning" chapter when it's explained to him what would've happened had he never taken over the body of the baby that Paul & Zenith had.
@@kmdreacts but he did form "some sort of bond" as you described. Just NOT in the same traditional parent-son role as it would had been for normal people because everyone can see he's a special case.
You can't say these aren't his inner thoughts. His being is his isekai and Rudy. They are both. This series is amazing because it focuses on real people in real situations. You dont thin of yourself as two people, no matter your situation.
I think that smile at the end was Paul being so relieved that Rudy made it
I absolutely agree. Paul may have asked Rudy to save his Mother even if it kills him, but that doesn't mean Paul wouldn't risk his own life to save Rudy.
In those last few seconds, his eyes glazed over. Paul Probably could barely see Rudy, if at all. It was probably Rudy calling out 'Dad' that let him know that he saved Rudy more than anything else.
The last word he hears is his Son calling out to him, of course that would make Paul smile.
In the novel, we get Paul narration in his last moments, and he indeed smiled as he saw Rudy safe "Rudy...thank god you are fine"
I'm crying 😭
Remember when the MT-haters said, that "Rudy never suffers any consequences"?
The whole story is about his decision and the consequences relating to it.
his pee pee didn't work, what more can you take from a kid? ✂😆
Hits like a. Rock
@@Sup_D Not in its entirety, but to quite the degree, yes. The issue is, that the haters just lack basic media literacy and wrongfully assumed, that the story was just a typical isekai power fantasy with lots of wishfulfillment for an (initially) p*rv*rted MC.
They were COMPLETELY WRONG, but they'll never admit to having been wrong. Which is very CHILDISH behaviour. I actually thought the same thing about the story, when I first heard about it. I, however, DO ADMIT to having been wrong about it.
MT is the best isekai ever written. It understands the typical tropes of the genre and plays with our expectations. That is something, that the ""critics"" can't understand, because they are to caught up in their own narratives. Sadly for them, they CAN'T continue their 100% incorrect narratives anymore.
That criticism still applies even after this episode. It’s not like his dad died as a consequence of Rudy being a sexual predator.
The last thing Paul did was smile. He was happy to see his son survived and was proud he got to be a real father to Rudy in that moment.
The animators showed mercy, in the LN he was dead the moment the hydra got him
Holy F*CK that was brutal…I was like at “at least we have Zenith back, right?”,but NO! Well,at least she won’t suffer from knowing her husband is gone…also poor Norm…I can already see it,she will not take this news well at all…
Thank god Norm and Rudy closed the gap otherwise she’d despise him even more
At least we bringing a vegetable back for the family good for the Sylph's kid
@@JetBazooka21 true, Rudy did well by fixing the problems with her, they would never get along if he hadn't done that.
@@UndisclosedAcc oh boy, I can see we are going for a rollercoaster of events, just pls dont spoil me more than I already got
Bad ass warrior dad and Rudys hand for a braindead Zenith.. Equal exchange?
I love how the Hydra ripped off a part of its severed neck stump to create fresh tissue to regenerate from.
Some Monsters are smarter than they look. Even the insect monsters Roxy was fighting had a basic level of strategy.
Too bad thay cut that explanation
@@Youyep_ As an anime only, an explanation wasn't really necessary to understand what was happening
@@Youyep_well we understood what it was tryna do from the visual so it did fine

Man the studio really new what they were doing releasing this on Father’s Day. RIP Paul he sacrifice won’t be forgotten he went hero way to save his family,he fulfilled his obligation as father. This put another strain on Rudys mind and it will affect harshly but unlike before he is not alone this time he has sisters, sylphy and Roxy. He will overcome this but also have to live it.
When the Turning Point 3 episode came out on Mother's Day, I just had a feeling they must be airing this episode on Father's Day and omg......they really cook with this episode. Despite me knowing what happens as I've read it, seeing it happen this episode, really sunk my heart. And that ending.......man......its sunk my heart down even further......
Happy Father's Day, Paul.
sylphie pregnancy was on mother day
Remember, that they had a break-week after that Turning Point 3 episode.
Also is something not quite often explored in other reincarnated Isekai: not only was the years Rudeus spent apart from Paul and Zenith but also considering he still carries stuff from his past life that he hardly considers them as their parents. And now with Paul’s death and Zenith’s predicament I suppose he’s not just filled with regret but also guilt for being indifferent to those people who loved him as their son.
By far the worst outcome from a turning point
idk turning point 1 is still the worst to me this still was pretty good overall. saved roxy and only lost a couple parents which at the end of the day is pretty good for this shows standards 😂
@AHBrandonReviews dude u r sick get some help
@@Humangamanhe is not wrong, turning point 1 is responsible for these deaths too and many,MANY others. Nobody in this episode would’ve died if turning point 1 didn’t happen

Hitogami was right about the regret man

Nah the regret would have even been worse if rudy never went here. Alot more would be fucked if he never went.
@@AHBrandonReviews But was it advice?
@@eraea9179you have a point Roxy wouldn’t be here for sure
Hitogami vague af. Hopefully Rudeus meets Orsted and says he defied Man god so that maybe they aint enemies for a moment
Even though I had already long spoiled myself on Paul's death I think the show made it pretty clear that Paul was gonna die from the dialogue in the past couple of episodes, hitogamis warning etc.
This episode is by far the best episode of the series for me so far.
i was specting Pauls death and maybe zenith more than the rest. but man this hurt a lot. I love Pauls character so much, he felt so real with flaws and everything. And i cry like a baby for a cupple minutes.
Also fun fact Remember that rudy named his arms hulk and Hercules? and he use Hercules tale as example. Guess wich arm he lost XD
Holy shi-
That subtle hints about his arm didn't even think about that. One of the reasons i like mt so much.
DAAAMN didn't even realize that
@@greatslavia9662 rifujin(author) is malevolus
That's crazy!
There's no way in hell that this episode airing on Fathers Day was a coincidence but on top of that they titled the episode "Parents" 💀💀💀
This was the most hyped episode for this season DEVIOUS MFS for sure fuckin calculated this episode to release today =-=
Right from the beginning of the anime, every time some one dissed this show, I sat on the contents of this episode in my mind and knew that no one would be ready for how MT is gonna run like a freight train through their feels.
R.I.P. Paul.
Man, that ending scene with Zenith really killed me. Because I was prepared for Paul to die, just not in that way. I thought the hydra was going to have like one last delayed tail whip or something and stab him or whatever but sheesh. That was an epic fight. The whole crew put in work to defeat it, even with some casualties.
To be honest, a lot of good anime have the MC get a mech arm after losing one so this just feeds into that coolness. And I liked that even though Rudy just grew a little stump back, he also sealed off the wound to stop the bleeding. To me, that's a win.
No idea where they go from here. The group, that is.
Remembering Zenith and her motherly love for him is what helped Rudy get through his first depression at the end of season 1.
When Zenith tried to talk and Rudy just looked at her in shock it reminded exactly of when Guts saw Casca again after the eclipse in Berserk
Indeed
RIP Paul u may not been the ideal husband and father, but u always tried your best to do the right things to protect your family. That deserves respect
I think Paul died happy after he saw that he saved Rudy
100%
Indeed 😢
Bind planned this, it's just like Fate/Zero all over again. 😭
You really can see how both Paul's and Rudeus perspective is justified and yet not as the same time. Like Paul was right, it doesn't matter if she was alive or not, just get her out. Rudy shouldn't have said what he said, but he still was the more reasonable one to have retained his composure. Paul needed to (and I think did somewhat) realized that panicking wasn't going to save Zenith and that she was still very much Rudy's mother.
Also it's a morbid detail but I noticed how Rudeus was trying to pick Paul's bone from his ashes like how it's done in Japanese funerals and considering his past life of him missing his parents previous funeral, it just hit that much harder.
I just realized that Turning Point 1 ended just now
Yup
And both Turning Points 2 and 3 are still on open, they'll each take just as much time to get full closure
Pauls last laugh and he was Glad Rudes was alive thats was so good

Last year demon slayer did the same as they released geniya backstory about his mom and his siblings on mother's day, now this one was released on father's day. RIP Paul😔😔😔
for someone who sees the future Rudy really should have really DODGED so paul didn't need to have a piccolo moment
Man the funny thing about that one week break. To think they will air this on Father’s Day of all days. Man. This sucks so bad. Rudy is going to bring home very bad news. Man. My heart is breaking….😢💔💔
they delayed this episode for a week a few weeks ago, 100% planned to drop on father's day
Holyshit, well now we know what mangod met . :-( This episode hit differently than usual, because i too lost my dad recently so this hit me differently but still an epic fight with the hydra 🙂 Oh yea, Rudy didn't have a very close bond to his mother but the end he has been completely defeated seeing her like that, and hes thinking "WHATS THE FUCKING POINT OF ANY OF THIS....."
They probably can/will regrow Rudy's hand back.
It likely requieres a very powerful healer or something but it can be done. 🤔
Wow i just heartbroken that Paul die on father day but it’s got worst Rudy mother lost her memories rough day for this series.
turning point 4 will make your socks spin just you wait :D
Happy Father’s Day Paul

@@MrWescottX shh...
It's been a while since a death made me cry. This one did.😢
I knew it would happen because I had read the book, but I still wasn't prepared. What a wonderful and tragic episode!
Bro that shit hurt. And the insult to injury just made it hurt more.
not gonna lie, its been years a episode hit me this hard, man that got me immediately seeing rudy with one arm walking to see paul and it was fathers day I watched the episode. Yikes man, this show is just different different.
I love the ending because when we first see ruedues lost his arm i was thinking is this why hitogami tried to convince him not to come, because without his arm hes not gonna be as usefull for whatever hitogami is planning in the future, but then we just get the reveal of paul bisected, that subtle smile he gives just before he dies as hes sees rudeus is ok. Its all so amasing, can't wait to see what happens next
Man that episode was brutal physically and emotionally.
I was expecting Paul to die but at least I thought he would have the cliche goodbye speach of "take care of everyone for me".
Nah he just died so brutallity only smiling knowing he accomplished his mission.
Now I understand Hitogami's warning. Rudeus had Paul before, now Paul is gone, he lost an arm and his mother he left everything for is in potato state like Caska from Berserk
I'm glad I'm always trying to dodge any spoiler concerning Mushoku Tensei like my life depends on it.
Thus I didn't expect at all Paul to die, Rudy to lose an arm or Zenith to be a potato. I'm glad I got to experience horrific feelings, sadness and surprise of turning point of events you get to only experience once in your life thus not getting spoiled makes it unique.
RIP Paul Greyrat o7
nono ma dude, in Japan WAS father's day yeah, so you can celebrate the irony. Ppl even say that the week delay that happened was so this episode would match father's day lol.
Happy Father’s Day Paul🫡
If Rudi never got got that letter, or didn't cave in to Norn. Then mother would still trapped. Paul still alive, Roxy dead (Alone in the dungeon, but Rudi would never know) So not going really only cost Roxy.(but he'd never know) But he did go on this trip ,and was injured, Paul dead, zenith saved but brain dead. In math terms, it would be better and less costly to stay at home.
yep it reflect in that rudy didn't even falter at his father's request. a straight resounding "YES".
It is absolutely legendary that they completely animated the hydra(dragon-like creature). Mad respect for the studio
to think this would air on fathers day kinda cruel cant wait to see how Norm will react to the situation
The turning point episode hits hard not because of the following death itself, but because in the truning point episode hitogami said "if you go, you will regret it". For Rudeus, the tragedies occurred because of him. And thats one of the things that breaks rudeus the most.
Thank you, was trying to remember what the dark Mother's Day Episode was haha.
Damn that cut to Paul after Rudy was like “nice one” to him
💀 😭
You knew someone was going to die in quest to save Zenith. But can’t foresee how it will impact the character and what got punch it will be to viewer. The writing of MT is top tier the character are flawed but the point no one perfect and we grow and overcome and stubble and rise again.
One thing that really is apparent is how bad Rudy is as a mage. He basically spams the same drill spell and he doesn’t fight intelligently. Seems like he can only spam op moves.
Happy father's days yeah 😢
After watching this episode my head went to the aftermath, the consequences of this event.
Like, how is Norn gonna react to losing the man who is not just her dad but literally the most important person to her.
Man-god did say not matter which path you choose you'll have regrets. I personally think this is the better regret to have.
Wasn't ready for this episode my god 😢 if only someone had a fairly bottle to relieve him (sorry too soon 😓)
seeing Paul in half legit brought me to tears
Its fathers day in Japan too, same Sunday
TP3 was on Mother's Day and this was on Father's Day in Japan too.
This show has continually surprised me. Haven’t felt this way about an anime in quite some time.
RIP Paul, you dear scumbag. You will be very missed.
Having read the novels, I was extremely anxious last couple of episodes and it really culminated now that I simply could not enjoy the episode. It was very emotional. They animated it amazingly and I really like they used up pretty much every single second up until the end to show us so much.
Noone took Hitami seriously enough. Now Paul is dead and Zenith is alive but not there. Rudy even lost a hand. Surely the least of all the tragedies but still not a small thing.
I do not understand the mindless hate (I guess, calling it like this, there really is nothing to understand). This is peak anime.
I hope that people understand now, why his decision was called Turning Point :/
Amputation is such a good point, they really should have tried to take Paul's arm for Rudy.
I knew it was coming having read ahead. but dang. it still hits hard
Hey i just picked up (and finished) the anime and I heard a new episode is coming out on sunday? Is that true? And if it is how many more episodes are season 2 are there gonna be.
2
There was a week where they didn’t release an episode so I’m convinced this was intentional. That’s my head cannon.
Also when zenith’s state is finally revealed, you can see in Rudy’s eyes, the final blow to absolutely shatter him
I believe it was released today on purpose. I knew it was coming and it still got me.
The anime is adapting the story so well. The desperate way the hydra was fighting towards the end, they are lucky to only have lost one member and a left hand.
Like i knew about the death or at least heard it happen but the fact they posted the episode on fathers day is something i was not expecting
Didn't even wipe off the blood......soooo he needs a new arm right and it just so happens to be a...no it really is too soon for that 😨
the roller coaster of emotion hitting hard with this episode. keep pulling on those heartstrings why don't you. 10/10.
Pretty sure that it is/was Fathers' Day in Japan, and I'm pretty sure this was intentional. Remember that a few weeks back MT took a week off - I wonder why that could be (there's no way it was to allow the release schedule to line up with the IRL schedule... not a chance /sarcasm)...
Anyway, this was the most beautiful and devastating episode to date. It surpassed my imagination from what I read in the LN.
7:43 never thought of that but tbh if they same blood type that probly wouldve actually worked had they connected the 2 ends & cast healing.. lmao
i mean worth the shot not like he would need the hand now 💀
This was the scene that made me read and finish the novel few years ago, I first saw this in a MAD music vid in youtube about this turning point and goddamn.... I wish they add Paul's thoughts in a Ova or next episode it really made this moment more freakin sad.
There's a CD drama where Paul talks about his thought in his last moment, look it up
@@voidygenesis8417 yes saw it
0:39 Yes it was father's day in Japan too. Also, the episode aired in mother's day was when Sylphie got pregnant and Rudy decided to go save his mother, so I'm pretty sure it was intentional.
Coming episodes will be heavy too.
Indeed. Next week
Sunday, June 23rd, or Monday, June 24th, for some countries.
I agree with a lot that you say (especially how surprising the way he died was)
Except most of them dieing
I didn't think that would have happened at all
What an unbelievable episode, but heartbreakingly cruel to fall on Father’s Day. When the Man God said Rudy would regret his decision to join Paul, he wasn’t kidding.
Its either roxy or paul dies. He'd regret either way.
The most brutal of Father's Days. Paul going full rip n tear the moment he sees Zenith in the crystal, it's fully understandable.
Yoooo this ep was insane man best episode since fighting the dragon god man the fighting alone was what I was waiting for but the whole ep man best modern day anime man crazy
Zenith: "speaks"
Me: Bojji?
Maaan, this episode. I cried
You're a beast when it comes to putting out content on a consistent basis! Keep it up, bro! 💯
Appreciate it!
To me it honestly looks like zenith is like someone who has suffered a stroke, so she is coherent but can't verbalize
I really think they did Paul Justice with this episode all thing considered. Paul went off and gave his life for his son, what more could a father want?
Full depression mode after the post credits scene
I knew this was coming, but I didn't expect it on Father's Day. At least the father's death on Reincarnated as an Aristocrat didn't happen on Father's Day also.
Rudeus: Dad don't trigger the death flags.
Paul: *Slaloms into every death flag on the way down*
I see a lot of people in the comment sections from videos about this episode talk about how Rudy doesn’t convey his emotions correctly when they are talkinv about his inner dialogues.
Those inner dialogues are just simply his thoughts during that moment not him talking about his emotions. I think a lot of people try and compare how Tanjiro voices his emotions during fights through his inner dialogues and think that all inner dialogues are the characters conveying their feelings rather than just looking at it as we are hearing his thoughts out loud
Hey atleast paul died happy not knowing abt the vegetable growth. And Roxy was saved. So the trip wasn't a total loss copium.
Copium indeed. I might need to order ugansan copium from unions now :/
I wonder if that week off a couple of weeks ago was to allow for this fortuitous time alignment.
Dammit how you gojo my dude on fathers Day?
FYI, that Sunday was Father's Day in Japan too.
I have to disagree on anime-version Rudy not having a connection. It was Rudy's connection with Zenith that pulled Rudy out of the hole of depression in the Futtoa refugee camp. If he had a connection then, he should still have a connection now. It was a bit of inconsistency on the part of the anime team. (IIRC, the light novels handled Rudy's depression in the refugee camp differently.)
Happy fathers day 😢
Man i knew this was coming, cause i somehow spoiled myself, but damn did this hit hard.
I was thinking that about his hand too, lmao!
i mean whats the worst that can happen it doesnt work lmfao
In Japan it was father's day too 💀
Insane episode
As a reader from the novels.. NGL, didn't expect them to cut him in half.
I have read the Light Novel yet I was still crying my eyes out at the end
So, on the other hand (no pun intended), if he didn't go for the rescue mission he would at least have lost Roxy in the process since she was trapped regardless of him being there or not. And since he had the book with the specific knowledge to clear the labyrinth, there is also a high chance that the entire party would have vanished over time as well by eventually stepping onto the wrong teleporter and be trapped as well or encounter a whatever big monster horde without escape route. I kind of believe that the mangod edged him into going by giving him two options and by my personal opinion, I think choosing the rescue mission was the lesser regret. Being there, and thus being part of these events, will surely weigh on him for a while, but it won't weigh as much on him as lingering regrets would for not going there in the first place. Zenith having an age regression is sure a very high bump on the road. It's a psychological trauma from which people eventually can recover from, though.
Also, I don't mind Rudeus feeling indifferent to Zenith... People who are highly upset were probably having a nice family-life and eventually had a happy childhood. Well, I didn't. I kind of can relate to him...
I wish there was a "what if" scenarious like on Re Zero where Rudeus would have different choices in the turning points. At least this way we would really see what would happen differently
I'm glad now that the manga lacks behind the light novel and the anime. I didn't know what would happen.
