I am Sri Lankan. One day I heard this song from the radio . After that I have been searching for more than 15 years.did not find. Finally I found it.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I first heard it on the TV show Legacy back in the 90s? Then one day in a Home Depot and tracked down the manager who found the CD and told me what it was :-)
I'm 63 and a black man. I love just about all types of music. I have a great love for beautiful music. Today 11-16-19 is the first time hearing this song. I thank you for posting it. I can't stop listening to this. I wish I had it on a loop so I can listen to it all day and night!
During my navy days, my ship stopped in England for a port call. On the bus, I listened to Loreena McKennet as I marveled at all the green (I'm from the desert), and this song was playing as Stonehenge's breathtaking monoliths came into view from my window. It was one of the most magical moments of my life. Thank you, Loreena, for helping make that moment so much more beautiful.
I have been looking for this song for the past 26 years!!!!! I FINALLY FOUND IT THIS MORNING!!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!!! I used to call into radio stations back when it first came out and hum it. Years later I would google search or hum into music apps. The only thing I can think of is that yesterday would have been my dad's 75th birthday (he died 13 years ago) and I asked for a sign that things will get better with the health issues I have been experiencing over the past couple of years. Maybe this is the sign, but even if it isn't, I am SO GRATEFUL to have found this treasure!!!! This made the rest of my year!!! ❤❤❤🥰❤️❤️❤️
I’ve always wondered what Irish people think about Lorena McKennitt because she isn’t Irish but she sings Irish music. I know some people find that to be culturally appropriating, even if you have Irish ancestry. It’s tricky when you are talking about a diaspora that is many generations removed. But I know some of us (I’m from the United States) have a genuine desire to reconnect with our ancestral roots. We just have to do it with humility and respect.
This album helped me through the darkest period in my life. Back in '99 I lost my 6 month old son, then we discovered my father had an aggressive cancer and lost him soon after. This music helped to sooth my hurting heart. Thank you for such amazing music.
I have to listen to this song every year as the buds come out on the trees. And I also listen to her opposite end of the year song, "All Souls Night" when I get to the general vicinity of the Day of the Dead. This album and a couple others by her are a part of my soul. Thank you for being such a big part of my spirituality Loreena, and may you always live in the springtime of your heart. May we all.
I first heard this song while browsing in a book store. The entire album played while I was there, and in fact I tarried longer than I would have, just because the magic of this music ensnared my soul. I asked the shopkeeper whose music it was and wonderfully, they had the music on sale. I bought it and immediately put it on to play in my car, and thereafter sought every other piece of music from her I could find. Every song is sublime.
I had the opportunity to meet Loreena in person at my mothers' funeral service. She is a wonderful, classy lady. She never forgot what Bob had done for her, and had the class to show up at his wifes' funeral. Thank you Loreena

For the life of me, I couldn't remember how the song went.....but I had always remembered that ancient, mystical feeling I got when I listened to it. It's phenomenal! Mummering has spread from Newfoundland to everywhere the Irish have gathered. I was mummering in Sodus Point, N.Y. in the 60's and 70's, a great celebration of life in the days of Christmas!
I see mummering (the procession and the play of the doctor and the knight etc) is an English custom too. It didn't start in Nfld but would have been carried there by the two main cultures of the province. Irish and English.
I was 12 in an abandoned house in Iowa, abandoned for years for being far too dangerous to walk into... I'm turning 20 this year & I haven't been able to find her since... This moment, is awesome, & I'm so thankful for finding it again!

Im from PA too, I remember watching the mummers day parade on TV in the 60's & 70's. My Grandmother (Irish) said that they Danced in the spring, it was a day before the sowing of a crop
Same here :) And 'the old ways' too (which I called the horse-song, because of the hooves-sound in the beginning) And Bonny Swans. I recently googled the lyrics with her. She was slightly shocked to find out it was about crafting a harp out of a woman's breastbone. But we still like the song.
Same here....I was in the middle of Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, Sepultura when I first heard this song and it knocked me on my ass. I have loved everything she's done since that day.
I remember hearing this song in the commercial for the movie "Ever After" with Drew Barrymore and it stuck with me all of my life but had no way of finding it till I came across it on RUclips. Finding a long lost song like that after years of wondering is such an amazing feeling.
This song has a poignant, mystical quality...like a dreamscape, enticingly beautiful and deliberately haunting at the same time. ..It is a wonderful piece of music. I sometimes feel that I had dreamt of these people many times.
This song has a special place in my heart. When I spent 2 months in Germany, my neighbor and I took the bus from Berlin to Dresden, and from there we went to several close cities and took the fairy to Sächsische Schweiz where we hiked up the mountain and went to the castle nearby. On our way back, I wanted to see as much of Dresden as possible, waited to the last moment to go to the bus station, except we couldn't find it and after running and asking around we got to the bus which literally took off a minute after we got there. it was the last bus of the day and we had zero money left. haha. I was listening to this song going back to Berlin. And every time I feel nostalgic, I come to this song. That was one of the best days of my life.
Some close friends and I were in our favorite Irish pub when we heard this for the first time. I'll never forget the gorgeous bartender leaning across the bar and filling me in on the name of the artist and title. As we walked to our cars, on that rainy fall night, and all I could do was humm it! Earlier that day, I had sat and listened to stories about my Irish ancestors. This song connected me to those stories. Now, when I hear it, I think of my family's roots in County Mayo. ❤️
All Loreena's songs brings me back to my childhood. Have been a fan of her, fan of her authentic, sincere, beautiful, enigmatic eclectic Celtic music since my childhood, much before I made this beautiful country my home. Now I am double proud with her as a Canadian! The Mummer's Dance has always been one of my favourites from her!
The sound of a time that's passed.....I can still remember this song getting airplay everywhere, I was so young and it felt so smooth and peaceful....They say "you'll look back when you're older and miss those days".....they are correct. I never understood it then, but I do now. Thank goodness we still can recall those memories, as we will never live them again.......
My sought after song whenever I feel down or bored! Her voice is so magical and heavenly indeed! Simply soothing! God bless you and may you live-long!!
@@SanjaySingh-oh7hv Yes I`m absolutely for real. I`m sorry but the projected image of Islam is not what you see. That Islam is modified and manipulated. Our God and prophet both spread the word of serving humanity and Islam teaches us to respect all religions. I have friends who are Jewish/Atheist/Pagan/Christian/Budhist/Hindu...you name it. I fell in love with this song over 20 years ago so much that I put it on a cd 13 times and when I get in my own head and can't get out of it or if I'm in a bad place in my head I will listen to this song and it calms me, granted it's the slower version of it, but I still love it.
"The Mummers' Dance" In the springtime of the year When the trees are crowned with leaves When the ash and oak, and the birch and yew Are dressed in ribbons fair When owls call the breathless moon In the blue veil of the night The shadows of the trees appear Amidst the lantern light We've been rambling all the night And some time of this day Now returning back again We bring a garland gae Who will go down to those shady groves And summon the shadows there And tie a ribbon on those sheltering arms In the springtime of the year The songs of birds seem to fill the wood That when the fiddler plays All their voices can be heard Long past their woodland days We've been rambling all the night And some time of this day Now returning back again We bring a garland gae And so they linked their hands and danced Round in circles and in rows And so the journey of the night descends When all the shades are gone A garland gae we bring you here And at your door we stand It is a sprout well budded out The work of Our Lord's hand We've been rambling all the night And some time of this day Now returning back again We bring a garland gae We've been rambling all the night And some time of this day Now returning back again We bring a garland gae

My wife went through radiation and chemo almost eight years ago. I took her to a Loreena McKennitt concert a few yers back, she loved it and we’ll hopefully see Loreena perform again. What you are going through is so hard but you will win. Wishing you many, many years of listening to L Mc K. and others.
I was brought to tears the 1st time I heard this song. It sang to the depths of my soul like nothing I had ever heard before, like an ancient calling to my spirit. Strange but beautiful. Now my fav song. :)
This is such a peaceful, beautiful oasis of positive energy. What a blessing.. Everyone that has left a comment on here has contributed to the 'magic" of energy here.. and it is impressive.. the moment I started listening and reading all the stories.. I was made well from the craziness of my day and life.. I want to thank all you sweet souls and spirits... Bright Blessings...
I'm African American who listens to hip hop and funk. I heard this song by accident in 1998 and fell in love with it. By cassette tape, CD, or media stream: I make sure this song is always in my collection.
This song is how I became acquainted with Loreena McKinnet. Made me curious about her other music. This woman has a golden voice and I don’t think she’s ever sang a bad song. Touches my soul in ways I can’t explain.
This is such a wonderful video and song with amazing performances by really talented musicians. Loreena McKennit rocks - love the archival film 🎥 footage of mummers dancing- i presume ireland 🇮🇪 or southern england 🏴. How awesome this ancient folk art practice was filmed. Im reading a book at the moment called “ Dead Man Morris ‘ written by Gladys Mitchell and published early in her career. Fascinating 🧐. Thanks loreena and quinlan road for the wonderful music 🎧 🎵 🎶 over the years. I thinni this is from Loreena’s album ‘ the book of secrets ‘.
Takes me back to a time when life was easier. And, I was more than 20 years younger. In 97' I was 19. Rave's and parties were all the rage. Techno was everywhere. I had different tastes in music. I loved this of course, Enya, And I was really into old school funk. I drove people with mediocre tastes crazy. But, they didn't have to be around me, if they didn't like it. I didn't have friends anyway. Just had people around me. I was abused as a child in very extreme ways. I had no idea I had severe PTSD. I was in extreme denial. I got through the day, and worked often at least 2 jobs at once. I functioned so highly by using drugs. When I was fucked up nothing bothered me or touched me. I had started using substances at 12. By 19 things were working. The bottom hadn't fallen out. Those next years things really fell apart. I turned my back on substance at 23. Because, my lifestyle was no longer in my control. Things had gotten disgusting and I realized I had to quit or die. Then things really got hard. I was clean but not dealing with my issues. I nearly died at 25. Things got very bad for a long time. I was 38 before I started building a great life again. I faced my past. I told the truth. Got on the right medication. I'm very happy now. I have things I never thought I could have or felt I deserved. I have a wonderful wife. She is the only human being I've ever related to. Or, felt could understand me. I love her and my step children with every fibre of my being. Before they came into my life I never knew what love was. Or, felt attachment to anything or anyone. I feel human for the first time. Those are precious gifts. Beautiful gifts. This song encapsulates a moment. It was very important to me, A long time ago. A time before life kicked my ass. Still love it. Memories are a little bitter sweet. But, I love this song. I'm fortunate to have this song. It matters alot to me. Never stop fighting. Things change. Pain builds character. It is not on your time. But, the time will come. Love is the most precious gift. It's the true meaning of life. It makes suffering worth it. Life is fragile, minds and bodies are fragile. But, love is strong. Never take those who love you for granted. Thanks to anyone that took the time to read my diatribe. Bless you all, my brother's and sister's.
God bless you too and I've been reading this whole thing I feel like that too I was abused too and my whole family is toxic for me I kept listening to this song until I'm finally very blessed to this day I got this song remembered forever
Think of this when I think of Art Bell. I discovered Loreena's vocal magic when Art Bell started playing it as bumper music on his "COAST TO COAST AM" radio show back in the 90's. Art Bell..."From the Kingdom of Nye." Gone three years. R.I.P. Art Bell (June 17, 1945 - April 13, 2018)
I remember sitting with my mom and big sister as we watched RUclips videos together (about 8 or 9 years ago now) and we came upon this video.. first song of hers we heard and we instantly fell in love with it. Brings back some really awesome memories!!
When I first heard this song I was 8 years old and it gave me goosebumps back then and when i was about 18 I heard it again and it was like traveling back in time to the first time I heard it. It soothes the soul. This song will forever be my favorite song. It is beyond beautiful.
I was listening to Coast to Coast AM on Spotify and this song kept coming up during commercials. I loooove this song so much! It made the show more interesting.
This song is what I listen to in January of 1998. I lost my one and only. She was my one true hope for happiness. Her loss I still greatly grieve to this day. I listened to this song over and over as it was and is very pretty. My eyes still well up even after nearly 25 years. This song got through a very very dark time in my life as I had no desire to live. Her mother and I broke up 3 weeks after my daughter's loss. She was lost in pregnancy. I would to thank the band members that made this song possible. I wish y'all a very nice and peaceful evening!!😢👸💔🚒
Une mélodie évidente, une voix qui touche à la perfection. Magique. La voix de cette artiste nous offre une sensibilité dont notre monde actuel manque cruellement. Cette chanson est vraiment magnifique. 😃😃😃😃😃👍👍👍
This song jus makes me imagine myself lying in a field of beautiful green grass and sunflowers while looking at the blue skies …. The energy that comes from this song is amazing
Loved this song since the first time I heard it on the radio when it first came out. Went and bought her CD and loved all of her songs. Beautiful voice and music.
I "discovered" you, Loreena, while watching a DVD of the 1990s TV series "Legacy". I was hypnotized by the theme song, which turned out to be "The Mummers' Dance". I am obsessed with this mezmerizing song and your indescribably beautiful voice. :-)
Heard this song sporadically in the 90s, but never knew who the artist was or the song's name or anything. Now, thanks to google and being able to type in a few of the lyrics the mystery has been solved. Thank you google. So glad that you fill in all the gaps in our lives. What a great song. Haunting and powerful.
I couldn't remember enough of the words to Google it and I thought the song was lost to me. Luckily, I love folk music and I picked up her Christmas album in a hallmark store. Then I ran across the album with the" Bonny Swans" on it and I liked it, then I ran across the album with the "Mummer's Dance" on it ... Then it played it and I recognized it!
I found this song by accident like 20-plus years ago and have listened to it countless times. It still sounds as good as the first time if not better. Awesome voice and video. Thanks, Loreena and your band for creating this beautiful masterpiece!

Im from PA too, I remember watching the mummers day parade on TV in the 60's & 70's. My Grandmother (Irish) said that they Danced in the spring, it was a day before the sowing of a crop

Something magical, almost mystical about this song. The sound of her voice, is very soothing and relaxing..👍👍👍

I do 💯 😃 , I feel tears stream down my face when I listen to this. I'm Irish also 🌱
What's "scottish irish"?
@@anglaismoyen It's an American that wants to join a club.
Loreena is also Scottish-Irish, born in Canada .
Oh but we do! The Irish in me dances. The Native sharpens my arrows and knives.
I first heard this piece of music about 10 years ago and fell in love with it. It’s so ethereal and her voice is like a gossamer’s wings ❤
Yes, isn't it??
My mom use to play this for me as a infant to calm me down. Im 21 now and I still love this song!!!
What a wonderful way to be introduced to the beauty of life. Your mother is one wonderful mum.
Same here :) And 'the old ways' too (which I called the horse-song, because of the hooves-sound in the beginning)
And Bonny Swans. I recently googled the lyrics with her. She was slightly shocked to find out it was about crafting a harp out of a woman's breastbone. But we still like the song.
sounds like binnorie, or the twa sisters

Her voice is so unique. Compare her to Celtic Woman. It's so much more powerful. She's a Celtic woman and everyone else is Celtic girl.

I remember hearing this song in the commercial for the movie "Ever After" with Drew Barrymore and it stuck with me all of my life but had no way of finding it till I came across it on RUclips. Finding a long lost song like that after years of wondering is such an amazing feeling.
I remember hearing this song on the radio around 2001 ish. It sounded awesome then and still does
This is one of my all time favourite songs. Love love love Loreena's voice. Her music is truelly amazing.
This song has a poignant, mystical quality...like a dreamscape, enticingly beautiful and deliberately haunting at the same time. ..It is a wonderful piece of music. I sometimes feel that I had dreamt of these people many times.
Perhaps, you were one of those people, back in the past...

Alissa. Perfect comments. Super👍👋. Compliments.

Who am I to Judge anyone based on religion when I myself am a flawed man. What you see about ISIS/Taliban and all that BS its rubbish...thats not real Islam. I`m a muslim and take pride in standing with and respecting all religions. Blessed Be!.

"The Mummers' Dance"
In the springtime of the year
When the trees are crowned with leaves
When the ash and oak, and the birch and yew
Are dressed in ribbons fair
When owls call the breathless moon
In the blue veil of the night
The shadows of the trees appear
Amidst the lantern light
We've been rambling all the night
And some time of this day
Now returning back again
We bring a garland gae
Who will go down to those shady groves
And summon the shadows there
And tie a ribbon on those sheltering arms
In the springtime of the year
The songs of birds seem to fill the wood
That when the fiddler plays
All their voices can be heard
Long past their woodland days
We've been rambling all the night
And some time of this day
Now returning back again
We bring a garland gae
And so they linked their hands and danced
Round in circles and in rows
And so the journey of the night descends
When all the shades are gone
A garland gae we bring you here
And at your door we stand
It is a sprout well budded out
The work of Our Lord's hand
We've been rambling all the night
And some time of this day
Now returning back again
We bring a garland gae
We've been rambling all the night
And some time of this day
Now returning back again
We bring a garland gae
Copying this :)

That was definitely a lucky accident for you! 😁
Dude, no one cares. Cringe.
This song is how I became acquainted with Loreena McKinnet. Made me curious about her other music. This woman has a golden voice and I don’t think she’s ever sang a bad song. Touches my soul in ways I can’t explain.
I’m a 26 year old man and same lmao

During the times of Henry VIII, the Mummers visited various houses as part of the Twelve Days of Christmas.
Beautiful song!! 😮

Yes, that gift is from God Himself.
How old are you now
God bless you too and I've been reading this whole thing I feel like that too I was abused too and my whole family is toxic for me I kept listening to this song until I'm finally very blessed to this day I got this song remembered forever
Have to agree with you those were the best days of our lives . The 90s.
Thanks for sharing your story and some wonderful, universal truths! Hope you and yours are all safe, happy and well! 💖🙏💖

After all these years still one of my favorite songs.
Just remembered this song and added it to my playlist. So beautiful. Thanks Loreena 🙏
