Old School Juke Here,I realize that a lot of you feel that the Boombox Classic lost a lot of it's attraction due to the CrankFest! But I would like to explain why the CrankFest was so important to both bands. The Boombox Classic attracts the majority of the crowd for that game, although most football fans would disagree! The truth is, neither one of the bands get any money from the Boombox Classic!! The money goes to their respective Athletic Departments. The only way for both bands to make any money from their meetings, was to have a BOTB's for themselves, where all of the profits gets split between the two bands, who so desperately need it! Our HBCU's struggle with funding as it is, and most don't get much, if any, help from their Athletic Departments, even though, in the SWAC, band is what brings in a lot of the revenues!!!!! IJS!
these two bands here r something else. man whoever hasnt witnessed these two go at it has missed the epitome of what it means to see an hbcu football game. THE atmosphere, the atmosphere and ooohhhh the atmosphere.
As great as this BoomBox Classic was, to rekindle the magic of BoomBox Classics 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2 years ago, JSU needs to break ground on their long planned on campus stadium like SOON!
Southern Won J State made it close with the LTP love ballad very clean you can tell the band liked blowing it vut the S is really Good there musicianship is 100% on point they listen to each other and play together as one sound its remarkable to see a d hear my former band director was from the S so im alil bias lol but to be honest J State hung in there but These Three Words Killed em the ending outstanding
Based on song selection, arrangement, dynamics and pure entertainment how could you not give this one to SU. I said it before JSU has won many but not this year.
it has its pros and cons. Battles are too short in Jackson.. can get 20 extra mins worth in 5th when its in Baton Rouge which is about 4 extra songs from each band. But set up is better here

To be honest I think Alcorn stadium is perfect...bands across from each other and fifth is always long there. Hell Alcorn and Txsu just went over an hour that's crazy Lol
I will always prefer JSU. I have to be real though. SU won this hands down!!! Sound Quality, Precision, Volume, Pitch, Balance, and Entertainment was all in SU favor. The Boom always gives a fight. IMO they have lost themselves over the years. 2013 and 2014 the boom was loud but at the same time attentive to music fundamentals. The last 2 years balance and precision has taken back seat to volume and at times creates a cluttered sound. I think it's natural for this type of battle, but I think JSU tries to out Southern Southern at times. No one does SU better than SU. I still love the boom but more attention needs to be paid to music fundamentals.
damariun wilson I think I worded this wrong but anyway I just notice JSU sounds cleaner when they play other schools. When JSU played Alcorn and ASU they were cleaner, and the volume was still there. Now do understand SU is a different ball game but I have seen jsu put up a stronger fight while maintaining a clean sound.
I have watched the Head Band Directors ever time. And the security doesn't move towards SU until your JSU s Band Directors instruct him to step in. Why would your Band Director come across that feel if he doesn't have any say so he isn't a part of stadiums security.
If that was truly the case one of jstate directors wouldn't have came with a officer telling Su to leave and when Su ignored it they sent 4 officers in the stands
arroggant08 the truth is you can't hear war and thunder cymbal section and I'm not talking about just a section I'm talking about how that little unbalance in that section affects jsu arrangements a whole complete band tell what r&b or hip-hop rap song where you can't hear the hi-hats or cymbals clashing? you can barely hear and in most songs Jsu plays you can't hear the cymbals and that's a fact not opinion just open you ears up and listen

Really not much of a contest!!! JSU was simply out classed by SU at least this marching season.....Better luck in 2017 JSU. You were loud, but articulation, dynamics clarity of sound, intonation, song selection and intensity were all bettered by SU.....
su is more even out then jsu when it comes to the brass section. You can hear all the sections holding their own in su band they just get sloppy at times. Jsu trumpets and b tones gotta do better cause them mellos, trombones, and tubas bringing that heat and jsu was the more clean then su but good job from both bands.
su trombones are non existent and their tubas get ate up but euphos go listen to 2 phones since a damn lie and tell me you hear everybody i was at the damn game lol aint no better proof

JSU definitely defended their home turf against one of the top bands in the world. JSU songs were better to me but I love that Stevie Wonder from Southern. Lol even the dancers were coming for each other's necks. I give the W to the Sonic Boom for edging out the giant!
