My father's salary is 21k and 7.5k goes to emi because of loan(amount of loan 3lakh) he took for paying my education fees. Rest 3k goes to emi for Inverter because we have electricity problems and I bought it from scholarship I got by paying down payment of 7k . 5k goes to sister who's studying in banaras hindu University only her mess fees is around 4k . Remaining 1k she uses for herself. 3k goes to groceries and left 3k goes in everyday expenses and tution fees of my brother . There's barely any saving can be done but yet my father's is trying to help me to get educated.

Is it just me or the word 'middle-class' today is used just as a way of being 'relatable' to the masses and show it as an 'aesthetic' without knowing what it actually is?
It is relatable for a lot of people. Nobody likes calling themselves poor, they prefer middle class. The upper classes compare themselves with millionaires and think they aren't rich but just middle class. As Mohak said, if you live in a city even your house help, whom you consider poor and give your old clothes and toys to is actually in the top 40% of the country. 'Middle class' is relatable to a portion of the masses because only they have the time to consume such content. The numer of people who consider themselves middle class is massive. We underestimate just how big India is. We've come a long way but we still have a long way to go.

Nowadays, a person who has income more than 45k per month can't afford a home/flat in metro cities or nearby small cities. I think while defining middle class, the salary range must be increased by considering the current inflation.
Buying a house is a capital expenditure. It doesn't comes from your monthly income. It comes Either from your saved net worth or by taking a loan. In case of loan, emi has to be considered as a monthly expense
One crucial aspect is missing from your video. People earnings 40k in Metro cities like Mumbai or Delhi almost are almost equivalent to that earnings 25k in small towns. As price of commodities are substantially different in various Indian cities.
No not that much , many commodities, product are of same price ,like milk , electronics, electricity, lpg ,petrol ,packed foods . There is only difference in open food products.

I think the definition of middle class changes to the location where the person resides as well. In a village,, 50k per month can be categorised as upper class But in cities like mumbai,, it is not.
Yess, in a metropolitan city, you gotta earn 1L to be able to fulfill all needs like education, food, entertainment etc for 4 member family if you're the sole earner among them
But a person living in a metro city have a better lifestyle then in rural area. People are willing to refuse a higher paying job just because it's in a rural area, because of not availability of many basic facilities. That should also be considered.
@@Coherentsoul People in Village area are not also suffering from disease like dibeties, Asthama, etc They are happy there don't want to enjoy polution breath in places like Delhi, Mumbai etc.

2 years ago, my family wasn't middle class. It belonged to the lower class because my father's income from our small business was around 10k-12k (Yep, the situation was bad). After my brother got a nice job, our average salary has jumped to 35k (but my father's business was badly hit by the pandemic). I know it isn't much, but it's a lot for us.
This shows how one person can change a families trajectory. Hope you get a chance to follow in your brother’s footsteps and add to the families progress. All the best.
My family's income is around 50k per month, but due to increasing inflation monthly expenses alone amounts to around 30k, also i feel this range is the most dangerous one,bcz in case of medical emergency we can't allow our relatives to suffer in a civil hospital but can't afford huge nursing home bills either 🤷♂️ one big medical bill away from poverty I feel

In Hyderabad I used to consider myself as middle class, when I went to village I realized that we are rich class, in villages having 1 crore asset makes them as very very rich class. But in cities, it's the price of the flat or plot.

My great grandfather was first educated person in our family. He was inspector. My grandfather was teacher. My father and brother are engineers and i am MBBS.
Like Mr Robert Kiyosaki says “The rich are ones who play to win and middle class are those who play not to lose” is more than just a quote. Middle class means rising above subsistence, but really it means moving out of poverty
Mohak ,being an Economics student, I must say what u brought today to our notice is a very much underrated issue.Middle class is a relatively small group in our Nation.Hats off to your research.Btw I m truly middle-class (income wise).Keep doing great work.
It is indeed very true. Unfortunately people either doesn't realize because they are too oblivious (or pre occupied with something else) or simply doesn't want to accept. There is a massive difference in the middle class of India and the middle class of China. That's where it shows how deep the inequality is in India.
Before the pandemic, I would have definitely answered that I am middle class. It was only during the pandemic that, while so many people were struggling, I was doing WFH from a house where I had my own room and workplace. This made me wonder how much privilege I possess in life and made me feel grateful. Sidenote: This genuinely is the coolest channel ever!! Pandemic was a downside for us. Our annual income dropped from 10lakhs to 3lakhs. Tho I think by the time I'll come out doing a masters (after 3 years), I'm highly doubting if the situations would be the same :/
you are not actually rich. neither me. but considering the situation of the whole country we're rich for most of the people. you send a small factory worker to a poor African country. he/she will be considered very rich. that doesn't actually mean they are rich. wealth is measured relatively to other people. like If you work for a small company you would consider it's owner as very rich. but some people in a very wealthy locality of a metro city may consider them poor.
My father's salary is 43k and we are a family of four with a rented house, I think it's very much difficult no matter what but if you have your own house it's it's less difficult

Pandemic made most of us lower middle class , pandemic has only proven to be disastrous for Indian middle class , only Few have GAINED from this crisis
People think that the Major Income Group in a country is the middle class. That is the reason why people compare themselves with people around them for understanding their Financial Class. For Ex. If I earn 200 rupees per day and two people earn 50 rupees and 1500 rupees, and most of people in my city/village earn around 200 rupees a day then by default I will think that I am A MIDDLE CLASS.
Very well made video. I'm from Pakistan and this is relevant to us as well as most of the stereotypes from a middle class families are very much relatable. I belong to a family where we use old clothes as a "pocha" but after your video my thoughts have changed and I have such gratitude to the Almighty how privileged we are to enjoy many things like smartphones, acs, washing machine etc which we generally taken for granted.
We need more videos like these that give more perspective. We need to talk about the working class which is the poor and the lower classes more offer because that’s the backbone of our country.

Frankly speaking asset kitna hai apke pas Including land gold silver house or literally anything Don't include like car fridge AC ,These comes in liabilities
I believe that one more aspect such as the size of the family matters a lot in identifying the middle class but it's often overlooked. For example, in India, there are a lot of people who earn relatively well but they are the sole breadwinner of a large family, they have to cater to their kids' education apart from spending on necessities and also have to take care of their old parents (since most of them do not have a pension fund). If we keep the above situation in mind a person who is earning 60k-80k can even be considered middle class
I think middle class is a ratio of income families makes divided by no. Of family members they have If ratio is between 22.5k to 45k they are middle class or else they are not
@@CrazinessGivesHappinessCGH hnn suppose you have 6 family members and you are one who earns for your family then I suppose you can be considered as middle class

There are times we feel an issue with money but everything gets on track soon I'm most greatful for my mother as there's instability in my house she to property issues between my father and his elder sister but once we settle that soon my mother said she'll be able to pay for a good college education as we'll get our share of money by then and my maternal grandfather always says if something uncertain happens he's more than happy to pay for my and my sister's higher education. It's an eye opening video
Drug abuse in general seems to be an under looked factor in why people over there stay poor. I'd say have your dad go to rehab (if it exists in your area) and get cleaned up. An addict in the family can ruin everything.

Being middle-class is like having a Father who got retired recently after working for 40 years in a government job, a mother who takes care of our home and an elder sister. Being middle-class means parents saving for their children’s education and even taking a fat loan, if required. And then, working for as long as possible to try and repay their debts. It means parents hiding their troubles from kids, so that the kids can focus on their education and try to achieve everything the parents hoped for. It means thinking twice before going for a fancy dinner, 10 times before buying a car and 100 times before taking a home loan. And in most cases, enjoying by watching movies once in a few weeks and taking a vacation once in a year at a local hill station. It’s about kids showing early maturity to take a small portion of their parent’s baggage and starting to take care of them the same way they did for their kids. Being middle-class brings the fear of getting stagnant and the insecurity of losing out on a stable job while trying to take risks, especially when your entire family is dependent on you. Middle-class at times means giving up on your dreams because the cost of chasing them might be too big to handle. It’s about trying to do your best so that your parents can spend the remaining part of their life in peace. And at the same time beginning to hide your troubles from your parents the same way they hid from you. Middle-class is about being in the middle of striving to make their life better while making sure of not falling further down the middle-class group. Being middle-class ….. is not easy.
I'm an NRI, recently staying in India for education. It's crazy how differently life was here vs there. I used to go to a public school, in a small English town. I considered myself middle class as there was nothing fancy about my life, and I grew up around similar oblivious NRIs . But after moving to India I realised just how privileged I was. People looked at me and my background in envy, and had bias towards me because of my English and nationality.
Yea most of Indians are jealous of others privileges and facilities and always feel lesser than others and compare oneself with others in or the factors. We dont feel envy of others
I considered myself middle class but now I came to know that I belong the lower income class. Our family's monthly income is less than 20,000. Mostly 12-15K. Even in 2022 , we don't own amenities like flat screen tv , car , basic infrastructure of home. Till last year , our home didn't had overhead tanks & water pipeline connection. We used handpump. I'm grateful to my parents & I'll work hard to improve our conditions.
I always remember that my father never bought new pair of shoes till his earlier are completely worn out with holes and water used to flow into it on stepping on wet surface. I always remember that he never bought new pair of clothes of himself but never denied me to get new clothes. I always remember my mother worked hard in home as well as school at just 5K salary per month. I always remember my parents are Great and so much hardworking. I've to do something great for them, they are the greatest. I owe them everything. They are God for me.

Thank you for making this video. I see people getting pissed when other countries say india is poor... And I seriously don't understand why. I keep telling people that wealth distribution inequality in India is a reality. India IS as a matter of fact predominantly poor . I think most people just want to live in their comfortable bubble and believe they most people in India are middle class when truth is quite the opposite.
According to statistics only 21% are poor in india but if we include lower middle income as mohak said it's well over 65%. And owning a smartphone shouldn't be considered uppermiddle class or middle class
My parents latterly crossed 4 slabs in a span of 25 years They represent true growth of this nation My father took a job in 1993 belonging to the low income category now co-heads my household which he proudly calls is in a high income slab
My grandpa worked as a personal assistant to a local jamindhar and my grandpa was poor but now my grandpa's kids combined income is above 90 lakhs a year . That's power of education
my father earns about 90k but my father always say that never ever have the greed over your income, we always consider ourselves in middle class category, he always says to me even you grow as a big man dont forgot your roots and be a simple man, because as long as their greed and desire and fills satisfied..My father makes around 90k, but he always emphasizes the importance of being content with what we have. He considers us part of the middle-class and reminds me to stay humble no matter how successful I become. It's all about staying grounded and grateful for what we have.
So basically Education is one of the most powerful weapon to bridge this income gap. Education I meant good quality education which is lacking in India. Current government is working for it but this video makes me realize that they need to work a lot more.
Mohak, you truly make videos that expand perspectives and give reality checks. Have been enjoying your videos for almost a year now, keep up the great work! Also, highly appreciate your videos being in Hindi, as this makes them much more accessible.

So happy to see you back in action! It was an eye opener. We consider ourselves middle class but technically we are the most privileged class in India.
I think in India we define our class by our job, no matter how much a carpenter earns he'll be considered low class here, clerk or doctor will be considered middle class and businessmen as high class.
I also belong from low income family cause monthly salary of my dad is 20k and we have 5 members in a family but we all got a good level of education and we didn't realise we aren't from middle class and India is so poor. I am very lucky that my parents treated me well but I didn't study as my parents hoped. From now I decided to change my life and your video is changing many other lives. Keep it up bro 🥰
I use a very simple calculation to determine what class income in india is: 1. 25k to 65k - lower middle class, because 25k in a tier 2 city is the same as 65k in a metro city 2. 65k to 135k- mid middle class 3. 135k to 200k- upper middle class 4. 200k to 300k - comfortable/not exactly rich but close 5. 300k plus - can consider yourself rich
These made me soo Emotional! We R Blessed but... What about approx half of the country..!💔 I hope our India manage to reduce this rate in next 10 years! We can and We will♥️
Upper middle class is a euphemism for being rich.... 3% of India consist of middle class , upper middle class , rich and super rich.... ie 4 cr out of 130 cr....

Some of the major policy decisions of present govt like demonetisation, and scandals like bank scams in recent years have hugely impacted savings of lower and middle class population. Day to day essential expenditures have gone up tremendously. Moreover, unemployment, inflation, recession, privatisation..these things have made the situation worse for common man to live a stress-free and healthy life. @@_prash true

Someone really spoke the truth, in India only 1-2% people are having some decent lives. India's per capita income is 2277 USD in 2021 which is one of the lowest in this planet.
if there are 4 people in a family it will be 2277*4=9108, per capita GDP is calculated by dividing the country's GDP by the country's population

This video is an eye opener as loads of people complain n cry over things even after having every basic amenities in life. Too good Mohak n team, we need more creators like you. Sharing right away.👍👍
I know you are right. I don't ever complain ever about my situation. I try to work harder for a better prospect. There are people really struggling to make ends meet and I am lucky I am a little better off.
I think thats not completely the correct conclusion tho it is correct to an extent. Everyone faces problems irrespective of which class they belong to so it makes sense for ppl to complain but the thing is it is equally important to know how privileged one is and be grateful alongside so you don't dismiss yours problems and also aren't completely ignorant. Its all about balance.
Yeah man, people should keep their mouth shut. How dare they ask for more than basic amenities. We should play this video everytime there's a scam or everytime a neta make a hateful comment.

This video really just showed my how privileged I'm and as my parents say I should never ever be entitled to it I believe my family is somewhere from middle class to upper middle class, we have a relatively big house our assets are in family real estate more then in actual money, we have tons of food options and surplus supply even during pandemic my mother is a teacher my father has a family buisness a small one but decent but he's an alcoholic so that's a place where his buisness money is mostly wasted on bottles of alcohol but what pays our bills is family real estate market from where the shop rentals pay monthly rent that's how our income comes as my father wastes all his money on alcohol so it's a big privilege as I see now and my mother spends biggest sum of money on me and my elder sister's education private tuitions , online studies, wifi and I've always been greatful that I got addmission in one of the most elite school of my district and my family is able to pay for everything.
