For #4, the truck was waving the Tesla by because they were causing a potential hazard by "camping" in the left lane and not overtaking the truck in a timely manner. The rock was just a coincidence.

One of the hazards of autopilot or cruise control. The Tesla driver is oblivious of the truck slowing down ahead of the truck in his right lane while going down a hill. Tesla driver should have either increased speed and passed or slowed down and let the yellow truck in.
Yeah Tesla driver in #4 is a doofus. If you see a truck gaining speed to overtake going up a hill, don't camp the left lane. Well, don't camp the left lane either. F that Tesla driver. Autopilot is cool but driver needs to pay attention, too.

Very insane. That's why some insurance companies are now refusing to insure Teslas. The authorize Tesla body shops are taking advantage. Tesla needs to make it so that all body shops can order parts. Otherwise this will continue
I'd say not that insane, they hit that hard enough it's possible they tweaked the pillar the door was attached to. Fixing that will greatly increase repair time. But also yes, Tesla authorized shops absolutely do take advantage of insurance companies right now. I had someone hit my rear driver side door hard. Dented it in from front to back and smashed the glass. Body shop wanted 3,000 to replace the door, then they were going to blend from the front of the car to the back. I picked up a door at a salvage yard, with the glass, the same color as the car, for 350 and replaced it myself -.-

Judging by the delay between the driver's sticking out and the rock coming in frame, it looks like the rock came from the top and it had convenient timing.

it probably came from the truck those are bags of concrete like, if not the same ones sold by home depot. that is the exact pallets that home depot receives including the cardboard poles. the rock is probably of the bottom of one of the pallets it is very common for there to be small tears in those bags.

Well, come to Canada and see the penalties for driving without insurance. There are so insane you have be insane to drive without insurance
in the UK the police can confiscate uninsured cars -but they enforce this so rarely some people just stop with the insurance and the annual vehicle safety check "MOT" which includes that insurance check. and if the driver is driving while disqualified they are automatically considered uninsured. There is a special fund for compensation for being hit by uninsured drivers -which comes out the insurance everyone else pays. Summary: we need better enforcement of driving laws -both insurance and licensing
Why is it insane? If the other at-fault driver has no money you're fucked. The fact that policies are sold that are insufficient is the insane part.
I got to experience it myself when I got rear ended at a light by an underinsured driver. She didn’t have enough coverage to pay for my car and the car she pushed me into. Geico did end up paying for then when they called me to say they weren’t going to cover it and I went off on them firing off swear words like a drunken sailor. Not proud but it got my car fixed

I didn't even realize this happen the first time. I had to go back and watch it.
I noticed that. But did you notice Kyle pulled out just a little and then stopped a couple seconds before impact? He literally waited to get hit! This is one of those crashes with two types of fault. The driver who hit him is legally at fault, but Kyle is technically at fault. The fact that he (presumably) saw the other car coming and then (because of seeing it coming) chose to stop instead of accelerating to at least try to avoid it is absurd to me...

3:56 you would think that there's a message in the display telling you the door is open
There absolutely is in the display, the guy didn't bother to look at it, and the car gives and audible warning that a door is open, then it will put the car back into park if you move more than a couple feet with door open, total driver error.
I'm sure if you turn your head to look when you backing up(not just the Camera) you would have seen the door open,

You hadn't heard? If you own a Tesla you're entitled to the passing lane or middle lane, whichever feels more comfortable cruising in while you send text messages or otherwise stare at your phone, you can stay there forever and make the plebs wait behind you. This according to roughly 99% of Tesla drivers, seemingly.

The submitter was driving at the speed limit on the passing lane. I would be pissed if I were the truck driver. So many people think I'm driving at the speed limit, so it's ok to drive in any lane. No. Move to the right lane if you want to drive right at the speed limit.

@@tedmoss - They stopped doing that a long while ago. Of course if you decide to go as fast as you want (Top Speed Pulled Over was 242 MPH in a 55 Zone back in 2003), you risk losing your driver's license and being marked under a Misdemeanor or Felony charge.

trucker wanted the tesla to pass since he didnt want to have to hit the breaks just to need to speed up again to hit the hill.

100% agree,, not only did she spot the oncoming driver and their increased speed, she sat her ass in the passing lane knowing the person was making a move. She had room behind that Nissan to again get out of the passing lane and opted to sit there. The main issue these days is with people just hogging the lane... The Tesla theme should have been for Candy.

If you do this in my country you will be honked at, flashed with high beems and if you don't move or speed up somebody will overtake you on the right. You can also get a fine and it doesn't matter if you were going the speed limit. Just don't be stupid and stay right if you don't need to pass. I drive all the time like 20-50% over the speed limit, some times double the speed limit and still in the right lane (only at night and there is no trafic). If you are not the police you don't have any authority over my driving so move over.

OMG, stop using the term "t-boned" when the cars are hit on the front or the rear, they are hit, not t-boned. Both 19 and 18 (as far as I've gotten) are hits on the back and front respectively. 12 is technically a t-bone because the hit is on the drivers door.

#4 - I think the trucker was telling the cammer to hurry up and pass him -- which the cammer should have done. The angle & timing of the rock make it look like a total coincidence. #3 - DO NOT WAIT, file a police report *immediately* if you experience this kind of abject stupidity. The Subaru driver obviously has some anger issues and is (equally obviously) a danger behind the wheel. BTW, thanks for the insurance law lesson! :-)

My wife and I had the same insurance thing happen to us. Parked at a red light behind another car and a white Ford truck going to fast and whatever reason got into the left turn lane and hit us about 50 mph. He hit the brakes at the last second slamming before slamming into us causing us to hit the car in front of us.
The car in front of us had no insurance and no license while driving his grandma's car taking his girlfriend out on a date to QT. The truck that hit from behind had no insurance as well. We have full coverage on our Honda and thankfully it was a Honda civic "2014" I think? The front was smashed and the entire truck was crushed in and looked like the car didn't come with a trunk. Both us and our roommate in the backseat had the usual aches and pain and our backs kinda messed up. Sadly all the insurance didn't cover everything and that's when learned when you get insurance ask about the under insured and something else that only cost $6 more and that'll cover everything if you end up in a situation like us or those people with the smart car dumb ass driver situation.
Yeap, ALWAYS elect for the uninsured/under insured driver insurance.
Your insurance covers your damages, then their subrogation lawyers go after the the responsible parties.
You are 100% responsible for what your car does while being summoned. Why would anybody think otherwise?

Every car has some sort of alert when a door is open or not closed all the way. My father's Hyundai Kona EV's dash goes nuts if even the charging door is open.

It's astounding how low the liability and property damage coverages are allowed to be. It's state by state, but the minimum dollar amounts are a fraction of what they need to be.
So you want everyone to pay more for their car insurance because some people decide to buy overpriced EVs? No, if you want an overpriced car, YOU should pay more to insure it. Not the other way around.
In Florida, 0 10 is minimum. The lawyers keep it low, because it makes more money on lawsuits, which means more money for the lawyers.
So you better carry uninsured and underinsured coverage to protect you from idiots.

Ben, I really enjoy your humor. Actually, my feeling is you are a large part of the success of the Wham Baam channels.
Agreed! I also like that he reads the video descriptions out loud. With other dashcam channels, you have to pause the clip just to read the description on what happened. Plus, the clips he receives are much more entertaining than some of the other dashcam channels.

All those compilation channels just take clips from every other channel, including the Wham Bam channels, so I actually stopped watching most of them. Some of them don't even get permission from the channels they take from, which is a legal gray area. But it's just common courtesy to at least ask. And giving credit is even better. 🙂

a tip to all the drivers out there - you see a truck get the hell out of it's way!
In addition to huge blindspots, US trucks have magnifying mirrors, that make the distance judgement more difficult.
The truck driver didn't know for sure if the tesla is far enough from the trailer.
he didn't want to make a sudden lane-change due to the fact that he was closing in on the other truck driver.
Trucks can't accelerate more at top set speed, due to a mechanical speed limiter that make sure that truck wont exceed a set speed (in Europe it's 56mph / 90kph, US from my understanding it's varying).
And since the Tesla driver was stuck on his rear end (It's doesn't matter what was the reasoning for this), the truck driver wanted to make sure that the driver Tesla driver would step on it to clear him some space, and clearly he didn't.
The stone was thrown by the front truck tires (Blue trailer) - on to the other truck (Flat trailer), hit the other truck and than went onto the Tesla - sort of an Instant Karma for the most annoying thing to do to a truck driver.

#9, the police would not have found the driver if not for the witness phoning the police with the full licence plate number. So even if you have a dash cam, you may not capture what you need for a police or insurance report. This is for people on Wham Baam Dash Cam saying they don't want to share their dash cam video because everyone should have one.
Pulling over after a hit and run only lets the perp go. There's no way to prove they were driving the car. These idiots pulling over need to be responsible for full repairs a few times before the financial pain convinces them to pursue until either their or the perp's car fails.
To record license plates you need to have a narrow view camera think EZPass tolls multiple cameras mounted in fixed positions on gantry and flash to record from your car as it’s being thrashed during an accident you would need to have a human looking at the license and saying the plate number out loud while driving.
I see some videos with people doing just that because they were probably burned by similar accident’s.
Cops won’t be very helpful with partial plates insurance companies will just total your car to minimize their loss.
I've been in collisions with underinsured dirtbags. It COSTS you a deductible. COSTS money that you will never recover as they will get taken to court, then never pay after ordered to. I have taken them to court several times to no avail. You just don't have to pay, even if a judge orders you to if you are a poor. If you only have liability, you are just screwed. There is NOTHING you can do as suing is ineffective.
In my case, the other driver just claimed his vehicle had been stolen the night before! Despite him getting out, recorded on my dashcam, and handing the police officer his driver's license! He then went to the police station to do a theft report, claiming the guy at the accident scene had stolen his vehicle AND wallet. When I mentioned to the police I had footage of the driver, they were VERY interested, lol. They ended up telling the guy he was recorded on video at the accident scene, and if he didn't tell the truth, they were going to charge him with insurance fraud and a bunch of other things. Let's just say he took responsibility, grudgingly.
Clip 4. The rock looks to me like it came from one of the tires. The trucker was waving to tell the Tesla to pass him so he could pass the other truck safely.
#3 Even if there is no damage to the mirror, still report it to the police. That person needs to be accountable for their behavior.
13:24 all of the self driving features in Teslas are legally driver assists, meaning driver / operator (think of summon like a giant remote control car you are operating ) is stil fully responsible to the vehicle. same thing if you car crashes while in auto pilot.
That US insurance system is complicated and kinda unfair. In Finland everyone has to have basic motor insurance. If you are at fault your basic insurance will cover other partys' vehicle 100%. No limits. Your own extra insurance covers your own vehicle according to your insurance plan.
Sounds REALLY stupid, that there's even possibility for cases of underinsured vehicles where you need to pay out of your own pockert because someone ran red light t-boning you.

I will never understand how someone can back up a Tesla in a garage with the door open and hit something like this. Immediately upon putting it in reverse, two things happen. Alarms go off because the door is open and it gives a message saying as such, it also shows the car with the door open on the screen. Then, the rear and side cameras turn on. So you can see the door is open. Unless the driver was blind and deaf, which, it's not a full self driving car yet, I don't see this being possible for anyone to do accidentally.

edit: yep, his orange was lit from 1:13. that means he did enter the intersection on red. Fortunately for him the other driver took it on themselves, and all other cameras not showing the lights is very convenient for him

It looks like it is blinking yellow which means that the traffic light is out of order. It is in Spain therefore in this situation you have to give way to drivers from your right. The other car is at fault.

They're called smart cars, because when you wreck in one, you'll be smarting from your injuries.
Actually, insurance is NOT required in about 1/4 of the states, and other states allow people to drive without insurance only if they post a bond of a certain amount with the state (this is about 1/2 of all states). Only a small percentage actually REQUIRE all drivers to be insured.

#7 Dash cams are not made to pick up license plates, you got to get used to calling out the plate. The hit and run car passed right by the cammer car! Make sure your mic is working and calling out the plate is a legal record.
That's not possible in a Tesla for now without installing your own dashcam. Tesla's cams either don't record audio at all or don't save audio

#3... the submitter crossed the gore prematurely... whereas the Subaru waited until it was legal to change lanes. The Subaru was likely startled by the sudden acceleration of the Tesla INTO HIS BLIND SPOT, and rightfully got upset. The Tesla driver jumped so quickly, it's doubtful that a turn signal would have made any difference to the situation.
Insurance adjuster here. When your insurance handles the claim and they believe you are not at fault, they do what is known as subrogation. Insurance basically assumes the lose and they go after who they think is responsible. If the responsible insurance does not have enough coverage, they can go after the actual person responsible. They may put them on a payment plan, send the money owed to collections, or take legal action.

100% agree with this! (I haven't watched the clip yet.). But a car that doesn't come with Cruise Control as standard equipment just can't be considered "smart" as far as I am concerned! (I drove a Smart car as a rental when I was getting mold remediation done on my Accord.)

Meanwhile, said company tells you that you still have to pay attention and have your hands on the wheel while using autopilot. And this has happened to other owners. There have been at least 3 videos of Summon gone wrong on this channel alone.
My husband laughed when I told him of the insurance coverage explained. He laughed as that rarely if ever happens. If you don’t have any insurance. Police will pick up your plates.

Regarding the under insured: what you said is correct; however, you really do not have to take the other party to court because your insurance co is going to open a subrogation claim against the other party. He also could have threw it up and the color that the window had blocked the rock due to similar color. It then re-appeared when it was in front of the yellow part. It then flew toward his Tesla at high speed.

For 4, I'm almost certain it was a coincidence. Seems like the trucker was telling the Tesla to move up since they were sitting in the left lane. The truckers risk overheating their brakes if they ride them too long downhill so you need to move out of the way

I think the truck the yellow truck wants to pass runs over the rock, sends the rock towards the yellow truck after hitting it, the rock glances off the top of the curved cab (perhaps even breaking the truck's window), and the curvedness of the cab redirects the rock towards the car. I would need to slow the video down to .125 speed to confirm this. Btw, at .25 speed you can see (via the truck's mirror) that the trucker's hands are on the steering wheel when the rock comes over/glances off the cab.

#4 the 10:40 video... Not from the driver. But this does illustrate a limitation of autopilot systems. Sometimes speed remaining constant is traffic situations is less than optimal. Because the truck was going to catch the one in front, he was going to want the left lane again. "Model 3" could have gained a little speed himself, and completed the pass, then settled back into cruise mode.
