Let me know if you have any questions on this install. I wanted to keep it all modular. The base unit has worked out well having the speaker right down at my feet. Cheers!
Thanks Reid. I first had my eye on the goose neck arm but two things immediately got in the way. First the seat mount rail in the 2016 GMC does not allow easy access to the bolt rail AT ALL. And lastly, the seat rail mount had the single screw to the head unit which i wanted to avoid anyway. So I made my own! And after five tries, I'm really happy with the stability and modular aspect of it. Since this radio is really two-in-one, it's perfect for working Satellites.
How did you go about mounting your antenna and routing your coax? Is it safe to route the coax parallel with your power? Did you consider installing the base unit under a seat or inside your center console? Where do you hang your mic? I have nearly the exact same truck and I’m looking to install my FTM500 in it much the same way you did.
Did the inline fuses come with the radio? Also, did you get the BT module? I am curious if you can pair with the GM sound system? I have a 2016 LTZ trim and am thinking of putting the head unit in the deep well under the cup holders. Not sure how hot it would get...thoughts?
Hey Marc - thanks for checking out the video. Yes, the radio does come with about 8' of power cord with inline fuses - however I chose to use my own 12 awg wire and marine type fuses. No, I didn't get the BT module but thought about it. I have hooked up the radio to the GMC entertainment system via patch cord. There is a jack under the center console lid, making the signal sound great. Putting the radio in the storage compartment as you mentioned was my first thought. I don't think it would get too hot, however I wanted to use the builtin speaker. But probably the deciding factor not to put it there was the cable clutter. My final placement just worked out cleaner for me. Good luck on your install and let me know what you finally decided on. 73, W0KNI
