- The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: Scene with newspaper. Unexpected news for uncle Phil.
Now, this is the story all about how
My life got flipped-turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute
Just sit right there
I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel Air
In west Philadelphia born and raised
On the playground was where I spent most of my days
Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool
And all shootin some b-ball outside of school
When a couple of guys
Who were up to no good
Startin making trouble in my neighborhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
She said 'You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air'
I begged and pleaded with her day after day
But she packed my suite case and sent me on my way
She gave me a kiss and then she gave me my ticket.
I put my walkman on and said, 'I might as well kick it'.
First class, yo this is bad
Drinking orange juice out of a champagne glass.
Is this what the people of Bel-Air living like?
Hmmmmm this might be alright.
But wait, I hear the prissy, bourgeois and all that
Is this the type of place that they should send this cool cat?
I don't think so
I'll see when I get there
I hope they're prepared for the prince of Bel-Air
Well uh, the plane landed and when I came out
There was a dude who looked like a cop standing there with my name out
I ain't trying to get arrested yet.
I just got here!
I sprang with the quickness, like lightening disappeared
I whistled for a cab and when it came near
The license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror
If anything I can say is that this cab was rare
But I thought 'Man forget it' - 'Yo homes to Bel-Air'
I pulled up to the house about seven or eight
And I yelled to the cabbie 'Yo homes smell ya later'
I looked to my kingdom
I was finally there
To sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel Air Приколы
"Local lawyer wins prestigious award, well it goes on from there" 😂 Geoffrey's delivery is so funny.
I agree with Phil’s mom. I see nothing wrong with coming from humble beginnings.
no there isn't also he should be proud of the fact he became what he is more because of his humble beginnings. As it shows that it dose not matter where you come from if you work hard enough you can become a big shot
zeoking silver facts!
Yamacraw is an unincorporated community in Pender County, North Carolina, United States. It is most known for being the birth place of Uncle Phil, a fictional character from the television series "Fresh Prince Of Bel Air".
@Mark Guerrero that it should
Being a farmer is not exactly the world's most humble beginning anyway. Like she said they put food on the table.
Phil’s mom is right. A lot of successful people had to scrape from the bottom to get to the top. Farmers are hardworking people. There’s no shame in having that type of origin.
Also, growing up on a farm probably teaches one the value of hard work and responsibility.
True lots of people had pretty much next to nothing and their parents gave up everything for their kids to have a good life and job.
My grandad used to work on farmland he used to drive tractors and combines
If anything, it makes it all the more impressive to go from that to the success he eventually found. I certainly respect someone like that a lot more than someone who was born into money.
@@sammyshehole same here, I've met some people who are born into money and they seemed rather stuck up, but those who worked hard to get that success definitely have my respect
If Aunt Viv ever tells you to run, RUN! And don't stop til you hit West Philadelphia to be sure!
I would run even farther than that just to be safe
But Will was just trying to help.
Will, RUN!!!!
Head to the nearest all you can eat buffet... XD
And give Uncle Phil some food that'll stop him! XD
Damn that voice break in "Mr. Big Shot" always gets me.
Incredible acting.
@Shana Jackson I mean isn’t that the point? It feels real even though it’s fake, that’s good acting, which is what the comment was trying to emphasize
Not gonna lie, even I felt bad
It's heartbreaking - Phil's mother and father loved him, and to then for his mother to hear him as an adult be ashamed of his background...can put you in tears 😢
Will was proud of his uncle. He came from humble beginnings to become the top lawyer. He was proud. He meant nothing bad by it. I’m happy his momma came in an said something
Will was helping him. The reporter who did the story was at the house in an earlier scene and she felt it was too "boring". Uncle Phil was putting on an act and making his family act a certain way. When the reporter was on the phone looking to "kill" the story, Will stepped in with Grandma's stories of Phil growing up in North Carolina.
i know it's the way they made the character, that uncle phil held himself to certain standards,, but don't know why he should be ashamed from coming from humble beginnings, he should be happy at how well he worked his way up
The way Vivian said “Will honey? Run” was hilarious
The first time Will f$%ked up
@@johnharris4899 If even _Vivian_ is urging you to run, you've _really_ fucked up!
@@johnharris4899 Actually, it was Uncle Phil the one who messed everything up.
"You destroyed my image!"
"Man I didn't do nothing! YOU'RE the one who tried to kill Hamato Yoshi!"
Exactly Shredder turned Hamato yoshi into a giant rat
🤣🤣🤣🤣
That’s a good one~
Lol you can hear when shredder when he says yamacraw. Scary stuff.
Heh, cause James Avery (the actor who plays Uncle Phill) was also the vooce of Shredder in the og 80s TMNT cartoon.
I love how Will doesn't see the issue and is proud his Uncle did that. The fact he sounded offended when Phil got angry over this shows that to he respected his uncle more for that than anything else.
One thing I love about Uncle Phil as a TV dad. He was not perfect and he had to learn the same life lessons sometimes as his kids.
Phil had as much to learn from Will as Will from him!
agree will wasn't the only one to learn lessons, except maybe hilary who in my opinion couldn't absorb new info all the characters had life lessons
Will had to learn to straighten out, Phil had to learn to loosen up. He came a long way from the guy who’d sit in a chair enthusiastically waiting for the oboe to come in on a classical record by the end of the series
@@mrcritical6751 the one intersting thing is he tells willl in the pilot he knows where he comes from, but doesn't mean he's trying to hide or forget where he came from
"Known to his barnyard companions as Zeke, Banks is no stranger to accolades. This ex-hog handler... Flopped his way to the top with the help of his trusted companion, Melvin the PIG!!"
Those lines got me XD
*Slopped
Especially with *that* delivery 😂😂
1:53 🤣🤣🤣
Me Too 😂😂😂
Wow Phil got owned by his mom.
but you can't really blame him though
It's not uncommon for a son or daughter to be embarrassed by his or her childhood. However at the same time, going too far in said embarrassment could upset those you don't expect it to. For example, playing with pigs would have been embarrassing for Phil, but to his mother it was a happy moment. To shatter that moment even unknowingly would hurt her.
What about him skinny dipping in the swimming hole with Melvin?
You're telling me that you've never done anything stupid that involves nudity or water?
No, but the fact that he swam nude was kinda shocking. Will was even disgusted when he said "Granny, please." "It's almost dinnertime."
He should have been pissed at the author instead of Will lol. That's literally the worst way to describe someone's rise to achievements.
I'd demand a retraction.
Terrence McCardell THIS IS LIBEL
Terrence McCardell Havent had to do a retraction IN TWENTY YEARS!
@@d.casanova it's all true just badly written.
Agreed if the had gotten details like the breed of the pig, a d eased up on the puns, as well as the bathroom story in one paragraph, but it's tv.
"Slopped his way to the top, with the help of his trusted companion... MELVIN THE PIG!!!" LOL.
gor9027 At least it didn't say anything about him skinny dipping in the swimming hole.
xD
I love that part. It's so endearing as written. But hilarious when he reads it all mad and horrified.
I can't say this scene without LMFAO
@@adamzabielski3685 me neither.
"YOU!" "Will honey, RUN." LMFAO!
Moral is, no matter how successful you get, NEVER FORGET WHERE YOU COME FROM.
and even someone from humble beginnings can become something great
@@zeokingsilver
True that but it can also come back to haunt you if you're from the hood
Like Nipsey Hustle chilling out in his old neighborhood at his store opening and then that rival gang member rolled up and killed the man
@Salvador Luna What about when he went skinny dipping?
@Salvador Luna I think he just thought it might make others think less of him
I cam from drugs. alcohol and liars so there's my thoughts.and i will forget where i come from
I'm glad Granny was there and said something to Phil, she save Will from Phil's wrath!!!
Alex Ortiz But he could've asked permission before blabbing to the newspaper lady about his life on the farm.
Then there would be no article. Just like the reporter says, "Look kid you gotta wake up and smell the java. Your uncle's dull. Dull. Dull. Dull."
Alex Ortiz forgot for the csgsgtsha for tomorrow tomorrow night at the house and the csgsgtsha
@@jordanwright2072 but she's right

@@MrSamer83 LOL..😂😂😂
Man that actress that played Phil's mother really sold that scene. Well done ma'am. Bravo.
Even Geoffrey tried to spare Phil's feelings. Geoffrey.
Good point.
"Oh, dear..."
Geoffrey felt like a different character in the first season and to some degree the second season. It was from third season and onwards that he largely became just a wise-cracking butler who would take a shot at the family and then disappear from the scene.
Phil's mom was such a delight. I loved how she always stood up for will
um hmmm i beat ya!
Will, and Phil's mom are the ones I felt the most bad for here. Will just wanted to make an article about his Uncle (in a non-screwed up way compared to other times in the show), and Phil took it the wrong way.
But Will shouldn't have rubbed it in his face about his past life on his parents' farm.
Matt Beeman Yes, but suppose he told them that he used to go skinny dipping in the swimming hole that they had. What would they think about that?
There's nothing wrong with coming from a farm. My grandparents were raised on a farm. Even Walt Disney himself came from a farm.
@@dustinsova4937 For real?
Uncle Phil was too uptight about this. If I was reading this 1. I'd get a chuckle out of this lighthearted article and 2. I'd think it was cool that this prestigious lawyer came from such humble beginnings. I think Will was right in the beginning. At times, Uncle Phil seemed to forget where he came from
I *LOVE* how Aunt Viv and Geoffrey hauled ass! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Just seeing mamas face turn from exciting to disgusted when phil spoke just hurt my heart. U NEVER forget your roots. U dont belittle them. You dont tarnish them from lying and hiding. You spread and share your experience so you can walk with pride that reached to the top when you were literally from the bottom.
Really sums up about how I feel about Americans who lie about being Canadian when traveling overseas because of how ashamed they are of where they come from.
@@Ennis85fact on that there nothing to be ashamed of yourself be proud and confident in yourself
@johncarey2480 i love my country ill never be ashamed of being Canadian but the only thing i am ashamed of is my Prime Minister
She had every right to be angry and upset, By Uncle Phil acting ashamed of his past, he inadvertently was saying he was as ashamed of them.
Aunt Viv's warning is the best part!!! 🤣😅🤣
Will honey run
i remember i first saw this a small child and understanding just from the tone of her voice how hurt Uncle Phil's mom was. That's some damn fine acting.
Amko9qmkooa,koakoamk9amkoaAkooam
I don't blame Will or Phil's mom, Will was just trying to help him with his article for the paper. It's kinda sad how he took it the wrong way despite he's trying to show his uncle that's being a good nephew ever since he came from Philly to LA so he could better himself.
This was a continuation from the 1st episode really think about it when Will told uncle Phil he forgot where he came from look how ashamed he was when people found out the real him
He probably didn't want them to think that he was triflin'
He remembered the 60s, the riots and hearing Malcolm X speak. Even now he's not ashamed to talk about the fight he was part of. He's just sadly become ashamed about where he was before that.
If anything, it's an even cooler story that he came from farming to being a wealthy lawyer.
The scary part of this is how Phil didn't even know he was ashamed.
He lived in high society for so long that he hasn't even noticed how it changed him and I think that speaks truth for any part of growing up.
This scene is so very true! Never forget where you came from
This scene always resonated with me. Ever since I was a kid. I never let money change who I am, and I always remember where I came from.
💯
Will's smile when he hands Uncle Phil the papers is hilarious!
I always laugh when uncle Phil reads the newspaper story and eventually says Melvin the pig that always has laughing and he says who is responsible for this and then Will walks in and it doesn't take him long to figure out who's responsible because he owns up to it, still it's really heartwarming when you see uncle Phil with his parents, I'd give anything to wrap arms around my parents one more time
The comedic timing of this sitcom is impeccable. Trully one of the best TV series of all time.
I chuckled a lot more when I someone call him Zeke
I know! He sounds so horrified and furious while reading an endearing story. 😂
"Will, honey...RUN!"
Be proud of where you came from regardless of how good you had it or how bad you had it. That will never ever lie about my past or my childhood
bowl now True but at the same time don’t embarrass your kid
Will was right in the first episode when he said Uncle Phil forgot who he was.
not completely if you watched it whole you would have known that he fought in the civil rights movement during his college years
Fair enough, but he still wanted to hide certain aspects of his life.
Will was talking about Black roots, not so much barn animals.
Will and Uncle Phil did help each other out since Uncle Phil was like Will when he was his age. Uncle Phil knew Will had potential but just need that push and tough love for Will to reach his full potential. Will help Uncle Phil to not be ashamed and to embrace where he comes from.
@@CHRISTIANNWO Well uncle phil came from poverty due to racial oppression. I would've thought he would've been proud that his parents managed to provide for him since black people struggled get Jobs in America. Like his mother said:
"What do you have to be ashamed of? We always managed to put clothes on your back and food on the table"
I can understand how Uncle Phil feels. Life throws at you an exceedingly vast requirement of skill and knowledge. Life also demands from you, to be the best spitting image of yourself as possible. Sometimes you can get caught up in the details of perfection, that it completely erases the genuine you. You're no longer your authentic self.
life?? no.. society demands that of you
Sounds more like Twitter.
It's uncle Phil's life he did not want to share that with people. Hardluck if others find it as shame. This shit where you have to share every aspect of your life for people is bullshit.
@adamsamuel8593 Agreed. I'd always felt like Phil's mom was being overdramatic about it. If Phil didn't want his past known, or certain aspects of it known, it was his right. It didn't necessarily mean he was ashamed.
@@PintheDogi am on Phil's side but his mom is so naive for letting his son to suceed
That look from Phil to Will at the end there. "I'm still mad at you, but you can thank your Grandma for saving your ass!"
He looks more sad than angry actually.
@@WestLegend03True.
Uncle Phil didn’t have the cleanest backstory, but it’s really nothing to be ashamed of considering how far he’s come and where he stands now. After all, not everyone rises from rags to riches.
What is a clean backstory? A fantasy? People like to praise perfection when they have no clue what it is. Not to mention work isn’t hard when everything is given to you.
Clean backstory is a term used to describe a person who does not have a criminal or immoral history or background. Being poor is not a crime or immoral. I understand what you meant to say just used the wrong words there.
If that article had just been praise and empty platitudes it would have been worthless. By showing he got to the top by working hard and with the support of his family that article may inspire others to do the same.
best part of RUclips is drinking my morning coffee and getting lost in some amazing acting.
James Avery was brilliant on this show!
He made the voice of Shredder on the old TMNT cartoons
"MELVIN THE PIG!!!" LMAO!!!
she had a point, no one should be ashamed of where they came from. Coming up from sometimes nothing is better than coming into a position like Uncle Phil was just shows that he worked hard to be where he is right now.
Unless it involves something outrageous such skinny dipping that is
Rip James Avery

As soon as I seen the Mum walk in, I knew Phil was getting his arse kicked.

His Mama ain't wrong. Be proud of where you come from.
The strong values of his mom wow
Wow. You can hear the hurt in her voice..... Great acting
Uncle Phil? I love how he plays in this show. How he gets pissed, evil laughs, Looks, everything.
Now officer, don't tell us to sit down and don't tell us to wait. Just open that dang cell or I will tear up this place with so much litigation that your GRANDCHILDREN ARE GONNA NEED LAWYERS!!

2:16 Will was literally asking for death
Exactly what I said
Mama sure knocked the wind out of uncle Phil's sails. Otherwise who knows what would have been the result for Will?
Never forget where you came from. It helped you become the person you are today...
There were episodes where uncle Phil said knew where he came from. It always reminded me of this episode cause it seemed like he was ashamed as his mother stated. Sorry big guy, but mom put you in your place.
When he said mama he knew he was in trouble
"Will, honey.... run." lmao
I loved the actress who played Phil's Mom she was great

Omg uncle Phil got a knot on his head
Well, as the timeless saying goes, "Great men fear their own mothers."
"Mama??... I was just having a few words with Will" "And im having a few words with you!" The look on his face goes from "Im Furious!" to "Ooh shit..." in a heartbeat ^^ RIP
At least he showed up… Uncle Phil, you are the GOAT
One thing is for sure, whenever my mom gave me a talk it had meaningbut when my grandma gave me a talk, it always made me feel emotional. Whether it would be happy or sad.
Grandma always said to never be ashamed of where you came from
It goes on from there.lol
Melvin the Pig the way he said it was when I lost it laughing. Lol
The lady that played Phil's Mom put just the right tone in her voice when she said "Mr. Big Shot". She sounded heartbroken.
will actually brings out a lot of uncle phill’s past, this scene, the stuff with janice, he makes uncle phill hustle etc
That’s common with people who reach a certain level of success they think they’re above it all, the world owes them everything, they’re entitled to everything, and they can be arrogant as well as ignorant (long story short they forget their humble beginnings real quick) and we call those the assholes of the world.
yep seen that before mainly in a anime

I believe hurting your Moms feelings is the
Most gut wrenching thing that could happen.
Mom always taught me to never be ashamed of who you are or where you’re from .
As soon as Phil read "Known to his barnyard campanions as Zeke", he went from excited to disgusted in 1 second.
Only just got into this show, I’ve really missed out till now it’s so funny 😂
Uncle Phil's "YOU!!!" here is the shortened version of "so you've chosen death." 😁😁😁😁
1:53 lol
im surprised it didnt mention him skinny dipping in the swimming hole with his pet pig melvin
I love how he goes from delighted to aghast in like 30 seconds.
Why did this almost make me cry?
Probably from seeing his mom getting emotional hearing what he said to Will.
I like This aunt Viv
Phil is such a hypocrite. I remember him lecturing Will on how he never forget who he is and where he comes from (I think this is when he first meets grown-up Will), yet here he is trying to hide and forget his background.
I don't think he's a hypocrite. He's a flawed, imperfect person. He was right, but so was his mama.
That was the point, Phil isn't perfect and that's why his mom had a few words with him.
And aunt Viv, she worked as a chambermaid in a hotel to pay her way through college
Mmmaaaann don’t you ever disrespect uncle phil like that 😭
Nah, Phil has a job that makes him a public figure, a very public one. He's naturally go a certain image he's trying to project and maintain. Obviously the article runs counter to that image (particularly the way it was written). If the article had taken the spin that Uncle Phil had grown up as the child of farmers and went on to become a Judge so far from home and leader of the local community, he probably wouldn't have taken any issue with the article.
The tone was clearly intending to reflect poorly on him and he had every right to be angry about it.
2:18 "You!" Careful uncle Phil, your Shredder is showing.

This is one of my favorite episodes.
Everyone loves a "rags to riches" story. Tons of successful people are honest and open about struggling to overcome difficult beginnings to become successful and prosperous.
To think that Will thought Uncle Phil would like the contents of the article.
