Sometimes I'll start a sentence and I don't even know where it's going. I just hope I find it along the way. - Andy Dwyer - Michael Scott - Wayne Gretzky
One of my favorite parts of sociology/psychology classes in college was hearing students ramble and meander around poignant statements without ever fully connecting to them. The spirit of the matter is definitely there, but the specifics got lost somewhere.
Tell me about it. I was a practicing developmental psychologist, so nothing makes my brain melt like hearing people, who have never taken a class or done anything in the field, try to psychoanalyze others and offer points with such conviction. It's incredible. But I commend them on their attempt.
That’s is indeed a great part of those kinds of classes. There are multiple reasons for this. For one, this forces people to discuss and indicates that everyone can participate, even if you don’t know the subject. In fact, many times the people who rarely attend lectures have lived a less sheltered life than those boot-licking nerds and therefore have an overwhelmingly better understanding of life and society as we know it. They can provide better commentary to the discussion. Next up, we have public speaking training. Public speaking is THE greatest way to understand whether you’re a well rounded person. The tricks is to start discussing hot and potentially divisive topics like racism, religion, womens and trans rights, the jew and many others in a very aggressive way. If your point of view is taken by the crowd as normal, then you have to turn up your anger towards minorities - keep going. When about half of people start getting annoyed at what you’re saying, that’s when you know you’ve hit the nail on the head. Let me provide an example. Suppose we’re having a conversation about the holocaust. You think you’re smart and decide to say: “Say, who among you (except black folks - you don’t get to vote) agrees with me that the holocaust was greatly exaggerated? I mean 600 people is a far cry from 6 million. And you’re saying the Germans WEREN’T making the most bussin rotisserie chicken in those fat smoke stacks?” I would like to think that this kinda statement would arise some anger or maybe confusion at first. But, suppose you aren’t discouraged at the audiences scolding. And you say: “Then what about the retribution money? Where has that money gone? I’ll tell you where - in the hands of people who have guilted the whole world into pitying them.” After your last statement, the ballroom would surely erupt with anger. This is where you have to dial it down: “Okay, maybe the Germans weren’t making chicken in there after all. But have you had a look at the shadows that were cast by the smoke from the chimneys? Those don’t even match up with the smoke pattern! Now, I’m no historian, but what this says to me is that the Jews have pulled the biggest “boy, who cried wolf” prank on the whole world! Which makes the Jews the greatest comedians on Earth!” As you can see from this short example, public speaking can really bring out the best in people and make a boring lecture more lively. Now, we have only covered two points. But I have a much bigger analysis of why classes in social sciences are very beneficial to students. Unfortunately, I cannot disclose a full version of my scriptures on account of my publishing house (Joseph & Jacobson’s) being very upset at the potential lost revenue. So, you will have to buy the newest edition of my book “Musings on Jewnerocity”. Thank you all and have a blessed day.
As a MS/HS teacher, sitting through these kinds of rants is perplexing. On the one hand, I don’t want to seem like I’m enforcing my opinion on the class, but on the other, the student is espousing utter nonsense that may confuse their classmates...
Now that we have streaming services without a time limit on episodes, they should re-issue the whole series with as many deleted scenes added back in as possible. This will surely create inconsistencies throughout the series, but as long as the narratives of individual episodes are still intact, I'm more than OK with that.
