Some tools used in this video were provided to me, all opinions are my own.
Finally built this, I’m very much a newbie even though I’ve had a shop in my basement the last 3 years & only tinkered with building only things for organizing the shop. Even though it took about 2.5 hours as I’m very nervous using a router this was simple to make & it works like a charm. Thanks for confidence to build this & I’ve subscribed.
I Love that you did this without expensive t-tracks.
Glad to hear!
This woman has amazing knoledge and insight on wood working. I enjoy learning from her content.
I love the way Tamar provides some options in her videos for how to work with what you've got and find ways to do things with different tool setups.
Glad it’s appreciated
@@3x3CustomTamar I'm in a beginner woodworking group on Facebook. I regularly cite you and DIY Montreal as required viewing, especially for jigs.
The first jig was nice but I have to agree, your newest jig is much more efficient. Great job as always.
Thanks! Yeah it did the job but this one is more versatile
@3x3CustomTamar thanks for the lesson. I'm so excited! My first ever toggle clamps arrived yesterday! I'm trying to make a sunburst pattern for a focal wall for my outdoor mini workshop. It's doubling as a lean-to style deck for the building behind my house until I can build a proper one.
I love your sandpaper idea.
Good luck!
@@3x3CustomTamar thanks!
That’s such a great message. I think people get turned off by not having the tools that are are marketed to perform a specific task. There truly is always another way! I really dig your channel!
Thanks so much! I love figuring out work arounds
Thank you for the video. I am doing flooring and if you have ever worked on a house you know that nothing is square. I grabbed some double sided tape to get through the two cuts I needed but realized I need need a tapering jig. There are a ton of videos with complicated jig builds but yours is simple and does the job. That’s what I was looking for. I’ll be building this very soon. Oh, it’s cool that you show people without a router table how to build one as well. I have one but I know what it’s like as a bigger without a lot of tools. Thanks again.
I built this today with some scrap maple plywood. Works perfectly. Simple and effective jig. Thank you.
Awesome! Thanks for letting me know!
Made this jig to substitute for the lack of a jointer and no room for one in my tiny shop. Thanks a bunch. Love your tutorials.
Awesome
It’s really. Cool that you have included two different methods to make this! Very considerate for your followers!
Thanks
So glad that you appreciate it!
I love that you’ve considered other makers who may not have the same tools. Amazingly simple but beautiful.
Glad you appreciated that. Thanks!
As a newbie I keep coming back to your channel. You explain things in a way that is easy to understand but you don't cut corners (no pun intended!). Thank you, and please keep doing what you're doing!
Thank you Tamar! ☀ Your insights and guidance are crystal clear! I just built the jig with the exact same parts and it's a blessing for the tapered leg chairs I'm building now. 👍
Built this one last week, too, along with your small crosscut sled, only without the extension -- simple and effective. You are absolutely right: this one does not need a runner, just the saw fence!
Awesome!
Tamar you are reading my mind. I have needed to make one of these for quite some time & now you just gave me the reason to do so. You Rock as always. Happy sawdust making.
Awesome. Happy building!
It's Hard to do woodworking for a mom's, but you shows us to make it more easier & to not felt so affraid do all wood stuffs creativity. Thank you so much Tamar, you are inspiring me as mom's
Awesome to hear
a mom's what? or you mean "a mom".
This is such a clever idea. It’s so neat and having the ability to adjust the clamps to the full length is great too.
Thanks! Glad you like it. It’s already gotten a lot of use in my shop
I was considering buying a taper jig. Reading the reviews I was disappointed with the quality of them. Your video is very well done. I will be making this jig. Thank you for doing the video
Awesome. Good luck with it!
The alternative method using the jigsaw is greatly appreciated!
Glad you liked it!
Just finished building the tapering jig. Your instructions were easy to follow and the jig works well. Thanks for sharing your time and talents.
That's a Calavera apron. High quality and not cheap. I have one with the Y back and a custom bottom pocket with a flap. I've had it for about 9 months and haven't even used it yet. I'm feeling like it's too nice to use. 🙂🙃 Another awesome video Tamar, thanks.
Thanks! Yeah it is! I actually don’t wear it anymore! I always forget I have it 😂
I love your jig videos. This will save me so much money.
Haha. Nice!
Good idea to show more than one way to make the taper jig. I like that yours is wide and keeps your hands away from the blade. Good job.
I know before I got comfortable with a router table tips like that would have been helpful. Yeah, I made this one wider so is more versatile as well. Thanks!
Simple and elegant, two traits that are always surprisingly difficult and rare. I will be remaking my tapering jig, Thx.
Thanks! This jig has already come in handy in my shop. Have fun with it!
Not only is she prettier then other woodworkers lol but I love how she explains how to do it if you didn’t have the tools she does. Great content!
Totally love watching your videos. You are not afraid to make a jig for something you need or find a different way of doing something. This is totally awesome!
So glad you like them! Really appreciate that ☺️
Good design, Tamar; practical to make, useful in any woodshop. And for those who don't have a router table, but do have a trim router: you can cut those slots for the T-bolts using the trim router's edge guide. Just be careful to keep the edge guide to your right while pushing the router away from you.
Great that you cater for those who lack the more expensive equipment. Nice video thanks
I know it would have been helpful for me when I first started!
Finished mine today! I put a runner on it since my fence is not the best. I used it to make a circle cutting jig and it worked perfectly. Thanks for the great video.
Awesome!!
Got my parts for this jig made this morning, just waiting on the clamps to arrive. It was my first real project using the router table and fence I just built, and your instructions made it so easy! My next table will have tapered legs using it.
Awesome!
Love when you show different ways of doing something using different tools
There’s always another way to accomplish the same task
Gotta tell ya---- I made this today in about six hours probly....... what an awesome jig!!! I can see many great uses ahead for this little dude!!! Thanx for puttin' it out there!!! Love your channel BTW... :)
Awesome!!!
I am now the green eyed monster.....sick with envy I am....of your router table with the riser pedal. Thanks for that! Good vid by the way, reminded me of my old forman back in the 80's who had to make one of these jigs to make tapered legs for side boards and tables. Back in this days there were no such things as the toggle clamps or threaded T bolt clamps. Instead - nails had to be hammered through the board so that just the tips of them would poke through the surface of the face side up. You would then push your stock onto these nail or pin tips against the (fixed fence) on to the board, so that it would not move during the cut. It appears we have finally made progress with this jig and it makes for much better sense now. Thanks for sharing this.
Ha! That router lift if pretty awesome. And glad there’s been progress since then!
I very much enjoy your innovative ideas and "can do" attitude. That is a straightforward and useful jig. Thanks.
Glad you like it
Nice build. I'm really loving how makers are showing alternative ways to build stuff with minimal tools. 👍
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it. I know that would have been helpful for me before having my router table
Great set up I’m doing one today thanks and I watch you all the time
I can’t thank you enough for all your encouragement!
Anytime ☺️
I'm glad l held off making another one l saw. This is simple and versatile with those incra clamps. Thank you for sharing.
Awesome. Yeh. I’m finding this one is way more versatile that the older one I had with the fixed clamps
amazing work and tutorial. No matter how many other tutorial I watch on any wood working subject. the way you work and your idea/vision of a project is always clever and more doable for anyone. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge and talent
That’s so awesome to hear! Thanks so much!
It’s 4:42 am and I can’t sleep and I’m binge watching you. Lol. I’m gonna see if you made a video on that scrap bin. I like it.
Haha happy hunting 😂
I actually made one with a small scale to adjust the angle. As I don't use the table saw I decided to use it on my bandsaw 👍👍👍😉
Excellent! I like the jigsaw option because it will be stronger and more durable if the head of the t screw is pulling against the full 1/2” board. Great idea! Simple jig with many uses. 👍🏽
Yup! You can glue in some spacers also but a solid piece is always best. Thanks!
Definitely my favorite second girl on the planet!!! Great job!!!!
Haha thanks!
Very nice and good storytelling also. I hacked one of these together a few months ago for a small job but after seeing yours I feel a bit like a caveman. I have bookmarked this vid for a future build. Your solution for the jigsaw version using hardboard was genius.
Thanks! So glad you liked it!
Thanks Ms. T I'm shy of a route table, but always inspired by how easily you get your jig on !!
Hah thanks!
Awesome, this is my next jig to build. I was inspired by your crosscut sled, and I can make this with the tools I have now.
What a great simple jig! Thanks for explaining so clearly how to make one. I hope I am able to obtain a small table saw this winter (but that I'm saying already
three years or so. Always there are more important things to solve.) My upside down circular saw constructions has a lot of limitations.
No sliding slots, fixed height, no angles.
That definitely sounds like a challenge!!
@@3x3CustomTamar It really is a challenge. In fact a too big challenge for me so I hardly use it :-(
Simple. Fast. Perfect for my needs. Thank you!
It was, as always, a pleasure to watch you.
Glad you liked it!
i learned so much from this video! thankyou for showing us how to do things without a router table!
Nice Job Tamara, well done. A graet example of a clean and well planned Project. So far the best execution of a tapered jig for table saw and router table. Congratulations with this result. Rgds, Robert from Germany.
Thanks so much Robert! Appreciate that!
Thank you Tamar for this idea. I've looked at a lot of tapering jig designs, and this one works best for me. I wanted to mention that I decided to use a hold down clamp having a 5/16" diameter t-bolt instead of 1/4". I am now somewhat regretting that decision because the 'home=made' t-slot now only has a very narrow shoulder. Hopefully it will hold up, but next time I do something similar, I will use 1/4"!
Glad you liked it and learned a lesson! Ha!
Nice build.
Before you got to the slots I thought; I'd use a slot so I can adjust for multiple angles. Then you go and put two slots in the thing. good work.
Hahaha! Thanks!
Tis is so nice. This is something on my "to make" list and on my "make a video of..." list
It’s really such a quick jig to make and will help so much with future projects
Christofix - DIY Projects can’t wait to see it.
@@MikeTheMaker1 ooops, big spoiler to my future videos LOL😂
@@3x3CustomTamar we think the same! thats why i want to make it as soon as posible
I really enjoy your channel. Keep it going. You are inspirational.
Awesome job. Simple and easy to follow. Can’t wait to make one myself!
Awesome. Glad you liked it!
Just finished making this! And thanks for the 8/4 tip. It was driving me crazy.
Glad it worked out for you!
I really like this design Tamar. Much better than the one I currently use.
Thanks for the tutorial.
Glad you like it! I’m happy I upgraded my design too!
Excellent, excellent video, Tamar. I rarely need a taper jig, and the one I have is a piece of junk so I will be making your version here. Microjig makes a nice one, but this will do perfectly for me and is way, way less money for the same functionality (for me anyway). Nice little tip about adding the small block of wood to allow the clamps to clamp thicker material. So simple but not necessarily something we all would think of in the heat of the moment.
So glad you found it useful. This jig is so easy to make, no need to buy it!
just finished making the tapering jig as you taught. Thanks for your great videos. Now I am onto the kerf maker jig...have to watch your video MUCH more to figure out how
Awesome!!! Have fun with them!
His videos are very explanatory and with fine details this is very good for those who cannot understand their language (This increases the number of views).
You are very careful and cautious: keep it up and congratulations on the illustrative video.
Awesome! I was wondering how to make the slots without a router table. This will really help me, Thank you!
Glad I could help!
Tamara, you are becoming my woodworking hero. :) I just ordered the hardware you linked to for building this jig. I am new to woodworking and just enjoying the heck out of it. Thanks for the videos.
Awesome
Классно получилось!
Great build! Simple, quick, and effective!
Glad you like it!
Every time you make one of these jigs it looks even simpler than the last.
Nope! You have 2 weeks until it starts! I responded you your previous post..... it really is simple!
Brilliant explanation and videography. Thanks.
This channel is fantastic! Thanks for the walk through.
Great job Tamar. I have just come up from the shed. I made your jig but I didn’t like the flex on the top board when tightening clamp. I machined 2 more slots in the base board and fitted 2 extra bolts to act as clamps when needed. Might be a over kill but makes it much more solid. Thank you once again for posting.
Yeah. So I just don’t clamp it so hard and that hasn’t been an issue. But If that works for you, awesome
Thanks. I've seen lots of versions of this. Yours looks like a better one.
Awesome. Glad to hear!
Great jig. Looks much warmer in the shop. Have a great weekend.
Thanks! Yes!!!!!! Spring is my happy time. Ha
Very timely for me! I need to make this jig for my next project (end table with tapered legs). My old jig is exactly like your old jig. Just not utilitarian. Thanks Tamar!
Love when that happens. Have fun building it!
Fantastic jig.
Great clean work in this one. Would love to see a video going over your router table, that lift particularly.
Yeah. That auto-lift makes me jealous!
I would like to know how to cut the other side. To make it look the same. Legs have 2 sides the cut to look equal.
Thanks for another great woodworking video. And a forstner bit may help those without routers complete that slot.
Thanks! Yup! For sure
Thank you for making this video and jig! I made one today and it already helped out on several projects!!!!
Awesome
This is great. I do much prefer adding a runner for the mitre slot for precision.
You are so gifted and so very inspiring, thank you for sharing your gift with us 🙏✊🏽❤️
Excellent ideas
Very cool. Thanks for posting.
Glad you liked it!
Great video. I’m going to try this. Thanks.
Awesome
Awesome! This is the only taper jig video I've found that explains how to make one without a router, so thanks for that :)
Awesome! Glad it was helpful!
Fantastic video/editing/condensing and narrating SO much into 6 minutes Tamar. I sometimes use my DeWalt scrollsaw to cut slots also. And as I'm sure you know, the quickest easiest slot method (I so often forget!) is just gluing TWO halves together with small spacer pieces at the end that turn the joint into a slot. Those Incra hold down clamps are pretty slick, and more advanced than the old Rockler style. Surprised John (Heisz) hasn't done a video on making similar hold downs w/ his clamp fetish & ingenuity. :-)
Thanks so much! I love that there’s always more than one way to accomplish the same goal in woodworking.
Tamara, there has not been one video I haven't taken some lesson from.
Really nice job on this video! Extremely efficient. Your videos never waste my time and you always get right to the point!
Thanks so much! I really appreciate the feedback. I watch a lot of woodworking videos and I typically get annoyed when ppl go on and on about something that’s not important to the build so I’m just trying to make videos i would want to watch
just build one of these using some scrap baltic birch plywood. i used t-track instead of routed slots. looks great and works great too.
Just made this this weekend. Got creative and made it a but longer which seemed a bad idea-the fence flexes with the clamp pressure. I added a clamp in the middle which helped a bit but just seen on a re-watch that you used 3/4 inch for the fence, i used 1/2 through the whole job. Will see how it goes but might upgrade that.
Tapering jig made easy. Nicely done. I have those same Incra and they are nice.
Thanks. Yeah. I’m loving them
Great video, very useful, quick and works!
Great to hear!
Thank you very much Tamar, It is very good that you share your knowledge.
Thanks! I appreciate that ☺️
Great jig and well explained Tamar! I like the Incra clamps as opposed to the other hold downs. Thanks and "G'day" from Australia.
Thanks so much! Yeah. They’re great.
Love your content. Creative, well-explained solutions.
Awesome to hear! Thanks!
U have amazing ideas good luck ahead
Thanks!
GREAT instructional video! Thanks so much for posting.
Glad you liked it!
Nice alternative, I build the first version. Your version seems better..... grettings from Germany
Thanks! Yeah. This one is more versatile.
Just signed up for the builder's challenge. Hopefully it's something I can get completed in time.
Awesome! It’s so awesome to see how creative people get with the same plans
Great video !! Nice to see your back posting again !!!!
Thanks! Life with the kids gets busy 😉
Good evening. Another video that teaches me a lot of interesting things that I hope to put into practice because seen like this, I think it is within my reach. Thanks to you. Sincerely Etienne (I continue to visit your channel) ------
Bonsoir. Encore une vidéo qui m'apprend plein de chose intéressante que j'espère mettre en pratique car vu comme cela, je pense que c'est à ma portée. Merci à vous. Cordialement Etienne (je continue la visite de votre chaîne)
👍👍
Very nice and simple! I think you can make that slit with the table saw as well, just drill holes in the ends first and raise the blade high to get a better angle of attack. Will try it.
