Someone read Heart of Meet (Heart's backstory when he was still a sickly child of all things). Also this guy lost his children to the nuclear bombing, hence why he turned out the way he was.

I'm not sure to the degree the explosive violence this show was for kids at the time but I think it's funny imagining kids roleplaying this on a schoolyard and the worst that acting this out would do to a kid was maybe clear their sinuses.

I like to think that Toki had a merciful version of this technique that he used when his medical Hokuto Shinken couldn't heal someone and they were suffering immensely, though Kenshiro could use it as a mercy-kill technique on an opponent with a sad past, like he did with Souther.

Watch the entire episode. Spade was really asking for it. When he's robbing a kindly old farmer, Kenshiro deflects a crossbow bolt into his eye but lets him leave with his life. Spade then gathers up his gang, attacks the village, slaughters a bunch of people, and murders the farmer right in front of Kenshiro while laughing about it.
