I have been a florist for over 30 years. One of the hardest retail businesses to be in. Low profits, everyone selling flowers, growers selling to the public, online companies selling garbage, employee turnaround, credit card merchants/banks charging huge fees, customers complaining about expensive flowers, insurance, landlords, vehicles, flower growers selling at farm markets and charge no tax, long hours, working during the holidays, customers google reviews, supporting growers for years and then they sell to supermarkets around the corner from you, government audits, wire services bookkeeping, packaging fees, customers wanting you to arrange flowers they bought from your vendor, customers don't trust "make it nice", can I get something nice for $30?, I would love to be a Florist!! " "Help us and buy from your local Florist!" It makes all this go away. "Be nice, work hard".

Just a florist....total understatement! An Amazing Florist 🌹⚘🌼🌻one who has the pleasure of working with God's beautiful creations everyday bringing smiles, love, peace, joy & happiness to people's lives everyday. What an amazing job to have. I so desire to be an amazing florist but lack the proper training. Still on my list though ☺

I have been a florist for years, arthritic hands, back problems etc. long hours 7 days a week. Public can be very trying, nearly everyone expects you to come up with the goods for free when a charity event arises, you have really good weeks then really slack weeks. I could go on, as much as I enjoy my job it is not what you imagine.

@@joyceflowershed it's the same with farming. I grow the flowers to sell to florists. It is intense work. I battle every natural enemy there is...slugs, chipmunks, bunnies, moles, disease, aphids etc. We are a farm that does not use a single pesticide, so my best defense is my own awareness and trying to encourage natural predators. Sometimes it's like pulling teeth to get plants to grow and produce blooms. But I swear that when those flowers start blooming, there is nothing better! I love working with flowers. I just wish that people had a better appreciation for what farmers and florists do. Most people wouldn't last very long trying to do this work.

@@joyceflowershed that's not very kind to shoo someone away from something they say they want to do. You don't know this persons background, they may know all about downfalls of becoming a florist. Heck every job has downfalls. Encourage people to explore things further instead of scaring them away.

@@Bea56601 okay how am I shooing away, just laying it on the line, honesty is the best policy and not filling their heads with this make believe notion that floristry is just standing creating beautiful floral styles. I assume you are a florist and should know what an actual day as a florist consists of, so I should be saying to you be honest with them then they can decide.
