  • Ableton has just released its Upgrade Kit for Push - allowing users to turn a tethered, controller model into a completely standalone device complete with a processor and onboard battery.
We got our hands on an upgrade kit and were curious about Ableton's claim that anyone can upgrade a Push in less than half an hour. To put this to the test, in this video we unbox and upgrade Push 3 in real time - with no advanced prep - and attempt to share some review opinions about Ableton's latest controller at the same time.

Nice Push upgrade walk through! The 3rd con, though, as you guys mentioned is there is currently no arrangement view on the standalone. Hopefully they're working on this and it will be available in some form like my Akai Force ! 😉

This is a good point, although I actually think the lack of Arrangement view in standalone mode helps to keep the workflow a little more focused and fluid. Some of the Akai machines, by comparison, are arguably more broad in what they can do in standalone mode, but I find they can occasionally feel a little convoluted with more menu-diving. (Although Push, the MPCs and Force are all impressive in their own ways).

@@MusicRadarTech Force only has duple meter, an inexcusable limitation in a professonal controller.
