This was one of my favorite videos to make!! I hope you like this video as much as I did working on it. Also, hope any of my Rainbow fans can notice some of their discography I sprinkled in the video 😉🌈🌈✨ What was your favorite Rainbow song? Mine is hands down 'To Me' and 'Not Your Girl'.
every time i see stories of less successful groups with members who had the chance to be part of iconic groups i cant even imagine how it really feels to know that if you'd made a slightly different choice, your life and career couldve been soooo different
Out of all girlgroups who debuted in 2009, Rainbow was probably one of the least recognitions but yet they managed to be the only girl group from that year to have a 10th anniversary comeback. And it’s all because of how the members are still friends and expressed strong desire to have a reunion. They really have one of the best friendships and chemistry in all of kpop
Yes. Their friendship is really sincere and genuine. The members are all talented and could've been great girl group aces in the industry, especially Jaekyung. Their company totally f*ed them up
One of the least RECOGNIZED***…just trying to help 🤗🤗 you’re right though, when they said they had healthy mindsets, they were very right. They were very positive regardless of what was happening.
I'll never forget when Jaekyung was interviewed and asked if her career in the k-pop industry was a waste, and she said no because she had been able to become close to all her members throughout her years in DSP Media. :^(
If Rainbow debuted today, I think they'd be one of those girl groups who are much bigger internationally than domestically. For example; LOONA, Dreamcatcher, and Everglow.
It's so crazy to hear about Rainbow being luke-warm in success, especially because 'Tell Me', 'Sunshine', and 'Black Swan' were some of the first songs that got me into k-pop. They really had the formula down to be a big hit but the stars just never aligned. I'm glad to hear how fondly all the members talk about each other though.
I think what hurt them the most was their choreography. Much of it reminded me of women who try too hard to be sexy out of vanity. A lot of rough motions and overdone forceful displays of breasts, hips, and butts, but without the smoothness or subtlety of women who have actually experienced good sex. If some of it seemed too much like striptease, it was modeled on bad strippers. I blame the choreography more than the girls, because they're all doing the same things under the direction of someone else. -- And their costumes often seemed kind of baroque and overdone. But a lot of their songs and their vocals were quite good.
People say “they deserved better” about pretty much every kpop group, but I think it’s particularly true for Rainbow. I think Jaekyung especially could have been a household name in Korea if DSP had promoted her & the group correctly.
Rainbow not being considered a successful group was always weird to me. During that time, it didn't matter if someone was from the US or Korea, or a die-hard Blackjack, Sone, etc everyone I knew in college who were into K-Pop had at least one Rainbow song they loved and thought positively of the group. DSP really goofed.
Rainbow is definitely one of my favorites girl groups, I literally sing A like all the time. DSP really has an issue with mismanagement. The long hiatuses definitely didn’t help and public interest can be rather fickle a lot of the time but I’m glad that the girls are still very close and leading happy and healthy lives
From what I have seen, which is admittedly limited, it seems that it's customary for K-pop entertainment companies to treat their women like crap. I'm embarrassed for them as a man, even one from the other side of the planet.
they're one of the rare cases of post-disbanded groups that a strong bond between the members of the group is still evident, and that bond alone inspires a lot of people
I got to know Jaekyung from her drama "The Secret Life of My Secretary" where she played the ICONIC, Veronica Park. Girllll!! She is such a natural actor and singer. I just wish the best for her and all other members. They truly deserved better and always will. 💜🖤💙💚🧡💛❤️
Honestly, Rainbow needed more promotions in Korea. They literally had everything to succeed except promotions. The time they were missing in SK killed them each time. They still deserved so much more!
Rainbow will always be one of my most favorite groups. it hurt them to send them off to japan for so long, just like when Wonder Girls were sent to america at their prime time. it hurt wonder girls just like it hurt rainbow. both super groups in my opinion
I totally agree that the company messed up by sending the girls to Japan for such a long time. Sadly it was a thing a lot of company’s did back in the day with for example After School and NUEST. And as for my favourite song of theirs Whoo has to be my favourite song of theirs 🌈
based on this video solely since i’m just a casual listener back then, i believe their failure to be recognised by korean public was heavily due to misjudgment of the company predicted their success path. i mean all these 7 gorgeous girls still being great friends till now with no one left the group until the disbandment day just prove me that they had less issues with the company or no wild controversies also and they genuinely enjoyed their journey together as Rainbow. anyway i wish them nothing but the best in future
I didn’t listen to Rainbow consistently when they were still active, but I always felt so warm and fuzzy inside when I would watch their videos. I could tell that the members genuinely had great relationships with each other and it’s awesome to see that they still support each other and make time to see each other
Here's the really tragic thing about Rainbow: they're the exact antithesis to a lot of other groups where every member GENUINELY likes each other. They have the ideal connection, and clearly, stuck together despite opportunities for success literally knocking on their door. And, as a result, because of how cruel life is, they never got the level of financial success as those other groups. But, at the end, as showcased by their last single Aurora, they still may have ended up being successful in another, priceless way in the end. Having lifelong people to call a team/friends/family.
tbh after this video rainbow feels like a nice group to be in tbh, no major career ruining scandals, to a certain degree a decent company, lukewarm success and close members even after disband. they're not to the level of success like twice nor are they a nugu group, but I think the members are some of the luckiest kpop idols
This is a another group who left without a Win i feel so sad but A was bop bro i still listen to it. To remind me of why i should keep following my dreams
Rainbow is one of my favorite groups to this day, their songs A and Mach being my favorite... along with Candy Girls... it's such a shame that they never hit it big though. They deserved so much better.
Tell Me Tell Me wasn’t that popular?! 😅😅 that is one of my favorite Rainbow songs. I loved their cute, bright, and cheerful vibes of that time. And I loved Rainbow Pixie too.
Sad how it was on 2 vs 3rd generation A lot of groups, even soloists, with only international fans could build a korean interest then a first win and bigger tours in Asia in 3rd gen But then it wasnt like that. Korean fanbase was the most important thing ever, so thats why many talent and well rounded groups disbanded so early in those years 😭💔
i miss them so much. i recently bought their album from a 2013 comeback (because apparently, i can't find any of their last released album Prism anywhere). they had everything to succeed if DSP is consistent. DSP kept putting them in Dungeon whenever there isn't a comeback. i'm glad that they are still in touch with each other and were able to even do a reunion.
I have so much love for Rainbow so I'm really happy to see someone talking about them again! Easily one of my favorite 2nd gen girl groups up there with After School. I thought I knew them pretty well but I learned a lot too. They released so much good music they truly deserved SO much better but it makes me happy knowing how close they are!
I've seen Koreans online commenting that A, Mach, To Me, Sweet Dream were their top-tier songs and should have promoted properly. Shame that the new management didn't catapult them to the opportunities these songs provided.
im sorry this is such a pet peeve but in the thumbnail why is the yellow member at end and not in between orange and green 🤣🤣🤣 and that way the red and yellow backdrops interchange nicely
I miss them 😭😭 so much they were so underrated since debut I remember when they made their debut wow time really goes by fast, I still listen to Tell me tell me everyday that song is still too good and black swan 🙈 ahh they were too good
This was super interesting. I only knew about Rainbow in passing and have heard a couple of their songs, but it's such a shame that the decisions of their company didn't let them go as far as they could have. They really could have been a force to be reckoned with if just a few things were done differently. A lot of people like to say that girl groups simply aren't as close as boy groups, so it's nice to know that they all remain very good friends to this day, and most of the members seem to have found success after disbandment.
You could tell that the members have strong chemistry in their appearances on "Flowers" 꽃다발 TV show. They were cute and hilarious on that program. Made me more curious and sympathetic to the group too. Wishing them the best 👌 💕
i know the music market in korea is very competitive and that companies are there ultimately to make money, but if they only stopped for a moment to actually listen to what the fans, the general public and the idols themselves have to say, a lot of group could've save themselves from disbandment. Through this series i've recognised it's a fairly common pattern in companies: they see that a group doesn't do as well as they expect it : they have to disband; they see that one specific song does good on the charts: they completely change the group's concept to recreate that success, it's sad and so unfair to the idols
Groups workings super hard to get a first place win makes me realize how greedy bigger fandoms are when their group doesn't get a 15th win or an 10th win for the same song...some groups disband without getting a number 1 😭💔
Can we please talk about the wedding picture with the rainbow colored shoes?! If this isn't the cutest thing I've seen today 🥺🥺🥺 also jaekyung holding her shoes like bunny ears 😂😂❤️
I noticed at that period Sunshine and i love this summer cute song, my favorite Rainbow title track are Sweet Dreams, A, Sunshine but i didn't notice their debut's song and yes now, it looks like a cheap mv! I know Jaekyung as an actress 1rst in the drama Life on mars and now in 2022, she played with Lee jun ki in Again my life
Rainbow was one of my bias groups back in the day, and honestly, if it hadn't been for their Debut song they probably would've been successful much quicker. The long hiatuses also didn't help. It's just sad all around ;__;
At least we can appreciate their friendship now. It's sad though they couldn't be as popular as KARA. BY THE WAY THIS IS HOW THE LEGENDARY VERONICA PARK BORN
My favorite song by Rainbow is Sunshine. You're my sunshine boy. I adore their discography. I miss seeing Rainbow on stage. I say we should do something similar for Rainbow. Bring their songs at Number 1 on the charts. Make their choreography and song go viral.
My favorite songs of Rainbow to this date are 1. Black swan 2. Aurora 3. A I usually, unknowingly whisper these songs whenever I feel like singing Thank you for your existence Raibow Really love your strong friendship and bonds too
go woori/go naeun is now also a mc of kbs joy's celeb beauty 3 starting episode 13 replacing one of original new 3 mcs, model/actress, jung hyesung, 20:25
In the drama Again my life in 2022 with lee jun ki, i have a feeling i see her Jaekyung's face before, yes it was on Life on Mars drama but it was in 2022 that i learned she was an ex-member of Rainbow that's why also her face seems familiar to me
That complaint about their outfits when they participated at ISAC makes me so angry! Like the girls are going to be in a pool for a majority of the time why are you so upset?
I was happy i found rainbow after they made mach. I font think i would have been fond of them otherwise, as i really dont like gossip girl or a. Theyre now one of my most replayed bands.
i just watched halfway so far, and a part that i think was significant but not here was that when KARA's big dispute/lawsuit/almost breakup happened, Sweetune said if KARA breakup, they won't make songs for dsp artistes again.. or sth like that. that was after Mach(which had super cool stage outfits for music show promos imo, but sadly none shown in this video)...Rainbow was on the rise with Sweetune songs so if they had continued with the partnership i had no doubt Rainbow could get big just like how KARA got big after their continuous song compositions by Sweetune since Sweetune was just so good at creating a certain sound identity for each group they work with like Kara, Nine Muses n Rainbow. but at that time, KARA's issue was ongoing n not resolved n dsp probly had no choice but to get a different composer for Rainbow's comeback. which i felt just changed their vibe that was building up to a different style previously. i still like To Me n Sweet Dreams, they weren't bad,but they're nowhere near being catchy as A and Mach. anyway, i'm glad to see this. Rainbow might not succeed as per the standard definition of success n i see comments all talking about if they had made different choices as trainees. but as a Rainbow fan, i'm proud of them, people need to watch their fancams at university festivals, where they'd perform on consecutive days, sometimes even at 2 venues on same date but they never lost their energy n craziness, their university festival stages were sooo much more fun to watch than the usual perfect music show stages since they always had sooo much fun together. and even until the end Rainbow is the ultimate winner as a group, a dream for all fans is to see their group's bond remains but how many groups out there had the kind of bond that Rainbow still has? they're still so much united that they even manage to make an anniversry project comeback after the disbandment (or whatever they call it, i notice most groups refused to admit they disbanded so that they'd continue get support from their fans but how many proved their words, Rainbow continuously do that) all on their own. even with wide popularity differences among the members, they handled it really well n you can see there's no tension because of how they handled it. Jaekyung in particular i feel really showed good leadership to keep the group together despite being most popular member. i have so much respect for her even though my bias is SeungA. and of course it's because all members commit to the group that they could remain with that tight bond even now while all of them pursuing their own things like acting, youtube, fitness, etc. also the mistake dsp often did to ruin their group...ship them for too long to Japan without any activities in Korea until more newer groups take the spots n they're forgotten....same as what they did to SS501 who was at a time on same level as DBSK....but then dsp got greedy n sent them to Japan. with KARA, Luckily they're already a hit in Japan. also, before Rainbow dsp released a boygroup A'ST1 but kinda abandoned them too after bad marketing tactic during debut that angered a big fandom, some of their fans i've seen blamed Rainbow when they're both on the same boat(n the members of both groups are pretty much still friends too...Jaekyung n Im Hanbyul collaborated on a song past their time as labelmates, btw speaking of this i remember back then whenever Rainbow collaborated with any popular boygroups the boygroups' fans would get so jealous they'd spread hae on Rainbow...blerh) A'ST1 had some of the best vocals n so many great songs like with other dsp groups yet they unfortunately decided to disband after a year. anyway yeah that went offtopic, but tbh for me, i don't see Rainbow as unsuccessful. they might have never won music shows or whatnot(which now barely count as anything imo) but they manage to get their name out there n be known by public n there are many groups who could only dream to even reach that level. n with how they're doing whatever they want to now while still keeping the Rainbow bond n pride imo they're already successful. ps: i also love the Rainbow non title tracks you included as bgm like So Cool(my fav xD), I Believe, Kiss, etc.
I knew Rainbow, i discovered them 1rst with their title track Sweet dreams that i love! Then i checked their hit: A and at 1rst i didn't like it but this sing reminds in my mind so i like it more and now i still like A and i didn't know they moved to Japan to promote, i didn't know their 1rst cute sub-unit, it reminds of Orange caramel their concept but i remember rainbow black's song and i didn't like the concept and the song
Most, if not all, Of the South Korean entertainment companies are centered around their founder. DSP was one of the "Big Two" companies with SM Entertainment, but the founder and CEO suffered a debilitating stroke, and his wife took over the company operations right about the time all of this was going on. The company is now run by RBW. It will be interesting to see where JYPE, SM and YG are in five years, now that their founders are no longer running them.
Yesss. I fangirled over them sooo hard back in the day, saw them perform a few times in person, and to see them just disband. Damn, Starship really did them bad
Rainbow was one of my favourite groups and I'm so sad that with such solid discography, they got no wins and recognition. Same with SPICA and Nine Muses, absolute travesty that the Korean audience slept on them.
kim jisook also the mc for jisook's table for one, a show in jtbc, mbc and one of 6 mcs in fashion n's follow me review on last year and she was incharge of it and trend in the team sandara, evenly team darajiyoung which compose of herself, their team captain/team leader, in charge of beauty and fashion and her friend, sandara park and former microsoft marketer, heart spring 2 participant and tv personality and in charge of food and health, oh young joo, 19:32

In the drama Again my life in 2022 with lee jun ki, i have a feeling i see her Jaekyung's face before, yes it was on Life on Mars drama but it was in 2022 that i learned she was an ex-member of Rainbow that's why also her face seems familiar to me
such an interesting video! my favorite rainbow song is actually sunshine
I get to know Rainbow thru Rainbow Syndrome album. For me, that's Rainbow most successful comdback ever. Hehehe
Jaekyung was one of the best kpop leaders.
Great job again! I'd love to see your take on SPICA!
Tell Me Tell Me I love this track😭
I love your videos about history of girlgroups like this. i hope one day you can also do after school
I came to watch this because I love A soooooo much!!!!!
Boyfriend next
Yesss. I fangirled over them sooo hard back in the day, saw them perform a few times in person, and to see them just disband. Damn, Starship really did them bad
I love Rainbow!... they are just awesome... everlasting "A"... :-)
omgggg thank u for making a video about rainbow 💗🧡💛💚💙💜
The problem is that they honestly should have won first place with A like that song is so good
Rainbow was the first K-pop girl group I listened too
Rainbow was one of my favourite groups and I'm so sad that with such solid discography, they got no wins and recognition. Same with SPICA and Nine Muses, absolute travesty that the Korean audience slept on them.
Why do people have problems with women being bold 😀
Should have ventured into UK & Europe Market... Great Group and great songs..
19:55 I knew I knew her from somewhere. I just couldn't remember from where. Gosh I'm so dumb.
I hope you feature TS Entertainment'Secret on your future uploads.
I like sweet dream the most
Rainbow discography is perfect. I came to know them by Cha cha and Black Swan

Anyone remember the boy group Boyfriend? I believe the same thing happened to them: focusing more on japanese promotions than in korea
Poor Jaekyung, her and the other girls got so skinny as time went on.
