- Glutamine can be the building block of everything we need to feel our best. It's something that I use with most of my clients 1:1 at www.ThomasDeLauer.com
What Does Glutamine Do? It is known to play a protective role in our immune and digestive systems - it is used medically to help those undergoing chemotherapy with both digestive problems and immune system function as well as for those diagnosed with bowel surgery to improve recovery. Glutamine is formed by our muscles and released into the bloodstream to be delivered where it is needed throughout the body. Glutamine provides nitrogen and carbon to cells throughout the body.
Glutamine and the Immune Response: When our bodies have gone through something stressful, such as surgery or a traumatic episode, nitrogen is needed to keep organs functioning and to heal wounds. About ⅓ of this nitrogen is delivered via glutamine. While under healthy, normal conditions our bodies are able to create enough glutamine, when we experience lots of stress our bodies could use more glutamine via supplementation. This is because our bodies have been found to have lower blood and muscle glutamine levels after major stress.
-This is likely due to the supply exceeding the demand
This lowered glutamine plasma concentration is thought to be tied to the hampered immune system functions following such stressors.
It was found that supplementation of glutamine following bone marrow transplantation was tied to lower infections and shorter hospital stays. (2)
This positive impact on the immune system is through the effect of glutamine on lymphocyte proliferation and cytokine production.
-Lymphocytes are a type of white blood cell that produce antibodies that attack invading cells and those of the body that have been taken over by the virus/cancer
-Cytokines are molecules that aid cellular communication when immune responses occur, leading to cell movement towards injured sites such as infection and inflammation
Glutamine and Healthy Gut Functioning: When you experience digestion problems such as bloating and pain, this is caused by inflammation. Just as glutamine aids in healing after a traumatic event, your body responds similarly to an inflamed gut, as inflammation is an immune response. When your gut is inflamed, the intestinal permeability increases. Large particles are able to pass through to the blood, causing your immune system to respond and attack food similar to how it attacks pathogens. The gut is not only responsible for digestion and nutrient absorption, but also protects us from invading pathogens. Glutamine has been linked to decreased intestinal permeability through its ability to strengthen the walls of the gut.
Dosage: The average dietary consumption of glutamine per day is 6g. Supplements are available as L-glutamine in tablets, capsules or powder. How much to take depends on the symptoms that you are presenting, with the suggested daily supplementation ranging from 2 g to 20 g. Consult your doctor before taking large amounts of glutamine. If you have an ulcer or other health concern they can help guide you as to the best amount to take. If you are worried about your immune system or gut health, for example if you have experienced a recent trauma or are training for a marathon, supplement with 2 g to 5 g per day.

My dad left when I was seven and I started taking glutamine felt much better about it

Gave my wife Glutamine when she was going through chemo and it helped a lot. She had a large wound at the time and it actually healed while getting chemo which is somewhat unheard of. The doctors were legitimately shocked. It also prevented mouth sores and kept her digestive tract feeling good.
Anyone going through chemo or recovering from surgery should 100% be taking glutamine.
Glutamine feeds cancer cells and can cause it to grow
But doesn't cancer cells feed on glutamine?
As a nurse we even gave it to people in cancer treatment and it works. I even feel it when I take it. Recovery speeds up greatly. It also keeps my stomach in check. I tell anyone with stomach ace to take it.
I swear taking Glutamine after my surgery helped me heal SO much faster! My doctor was shocked at my first appt after surgery. I’m still healing but am so far ahead of others with the same surgery date online. I truly believe in this supplement now!
completely anecdotal info you presented here
What brand have you used buddy?
How are you doing now? How many grams did you take

Love your video! I think you and doctor Osborne, founder of the Gluten free society would make a great team!
Great information you explained it the best out of everyone on RUclips
So well researched. Thankyou!
Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge to us. Can you please make a video on L-arginine and L-carnitine ?
Glutamine is a great Immune booster, got sick in Powerlifting training cycles, with glutamine i can go trough alot of training without getting sick
Great video Thomas DeLauer! ;)
incredible video
Excellent. Much appreciated
Just found your channel, already watch few videos) its always so great to see people who know what they talking about! I'm sure you will understand)
Tom is great, but here he messes up whether glutamine is essential or not, in another he completely messes up his Carnivore diet vid and got torn apart by the Carnivore community, and he has two separate videos on BCAAs that say the exact opposite of one another. Disappointed he doesn't practice due diligence with his content even though he sounds like he does. Still good, overall tho.
amazing more helpful info!! thank u
I just want to say, Thankyou, Thankyou and Thankyou
Another great video as always! What would be the conclusion, you got me a bit confused. Supplementing in low quantities, no supplementation at all unless needed?
Great video, thank you

I started taking glutamine awhile back and around the same time began to try get back up to my normal weight of 190 lbs. I weigh 175. I have been eating like crazy and I wondered why I could not gain any weight at all. I suspected that maybe it was the glutamine so I stopped taking it. I have started gaining the weight back!! If anyone is interested in weight control, take glutamine.
So it helped you gain or loose weight? I’m confused
@@zainabjebari2497 it sounds like he was trying to gain weight but wasn’t able to until he stopped taking the glutamine.
Dr. Atkins recommends it in his original 1972 Diet Revolution book for the Induction phase. Also helps with alcohol addiction
Is it useful for wait loose??
@@KJB0001 how does it help with alcohol addiction
Good video
An essential amino acid, or indispensable amino acid, is an amino acid that cannot be synthesized from scratch by the organism fast enough to supply its demand, and must therefore come from the diet.
How'd you get that one wrong?
Agreed!
thanks for taking your time to video this just please take sometime to asnwer some people questions which are very good, if u made this video put it online for the public at least take care of your viewers a llittle.
Very helpful
Awesome information! Glutamine is underrepresented and underrated! 💊
I was wondering why my gut healed in the last days and now I know
thank you
Hi Thomas! Another great video! Quick question, in a video you mentioned a drink with apple vinegar, lemon juice and glutamine, but didn't mention when to drink it, can you comment on it. Thanks in advance and keep the great work!
Can great videos bro!! Can you do a video on how a KETO DIET OR TYPE OF CYCLE that can work with someone that trains MMA, Soccer(Football), Tennis, Basketball or CrossFit professionally!!!!???? I would love this.
Another great video! Thanks for the information. When would be the best time to take this?
I've read to take after a workout and right before bed.
yes we should educate ourselves on how the complex biological system works, prevention is better than cure.. knowledge is power!!
that was great information I just bought 1st phorm glutamine and been looking everywhere for more detailed information I do crossfit 5 days a week I just came down with a cold and when I work out my body just hurts all over even after the foam roller so it makes sense now . the glutamine is fighting the cold if I take cold medicine will that make it so I can recover fast from my workouts
See that's why I love this channel - I just had a hip replacement and this was great info for me! Should I take a Glutamine supplement to help aid in my recovery? Thanks Thomas!
can you do a video please on BCAAs? that would be awesome
bcaa's are not that special...
When you get enough protein (especially from dairy) you usually get enough BCAAs. So don't care about them.
Adam Dobbs Human flesh is found up to 100% in the muscles. By that reasoning, we should start...
waste of money
Richard Breeze Glutamine is also good for the lining of the stomach wall same as Beef or Chicken Broth!
great!!
Thank you. And you need to say what the proper dosage is needed and when to take it?
So informative, from a bodybuilding background, glutamine is superb. It definitely allows me to eat/digest food more
QUESTION: will creatine or glutamine kick me out of ketosis
@@lemonking3644 of course not
It'd be great if you could do another video comparing L-Glutamine with Glutamine peptides. The L-Glutamine really mess me up when I consume it but it's not like that with the peptides.
My gut had alot of trauma from Budweiser back in the 90s.
Yes sir
Love ur channel.......knowledge and eye candy 😊💪👌
Ok so I’ve just found out this is why I ended up having hashimotos! Because I worked out so hard and ofcourse allergies blah blah blah the impact on my immune system was serious! I was losing a lot of weight and gaining a lot of music it’s was quite traumatic due to the amount of cortisol that was flooding my system. My recovery is on point along side other supps I never knew I should’ve been taking such as magnesium! Anyways good info here!
What happens if you have too much Glutamine??? Is that dangerous and if so, how do you get rid of it?
Hi Thomas, im doing 3day waterfast can i take 5mg a day?
As always really insightful. One point which I am confused about though, is the point about giving glutamine to cancer patients during treatment. Other medical professionals talk about how cancer cells thrive on glucose and glutamine. They suggest reducing glutamine not only by avoiding glutamine supplementation but also reducing the glutamine consumed from food by performing intermittent fasting. You can see my confusion, as both theories contradict one another. Great video, I'm just confused on that point.
Yes I was going to mention that. I have seen that many times, to avoid with cancer !
Agreed.
Great video, thank's for the details on how L-Glutamin can help close those gaps of the leaky gut 👍🙋♂️🎈🎉
Could you please tell me for how long you took glutamine? And How much gram daily?
please do a video on leucine
Man, he is so young in this video.
I know, right? Crazy how much more mature he looks in a mere 3 years.
Good information
Is L glutamine pils effects facial hair growth or increase it
Its almost impossible to get all the micro nutrients from the food we eat, even the most healthy foods, so supplementation is a must!!
Can i take L glutamin regularly when doing ketogenic diet?
K2 VIDEO, por favor :)
I just bought me some BCAA's I need to know if I take l-glutamine will it knock me out of ketosis??? I been searching for a answer and can't find one..
I would only take glutamine supplements after a fast, a really hard workout, or severe injury, some acute trauma. For chronic stress, removing the stressor is much better.
What's your video title on leaky gut? Thanks !
Thats Right
Wow, such science. So research.
Can I take this during fasting?
Please educate me is Mono Sodium Glutamate or chicken essence/boillon is as beneficial as Amino Acid in Glutamine?
Is there any differences between Glutamine and L- glutamine? Which is better for leaky gut

is T.A.G with Alanine ok for ketosis?
Doctor glutamine is good for IBS ?
Essential aa means you NEED it from dietary sources.
is it fine getting it only in whey protein?
can it helps for PSORIASIS problem.?
Have you even read the studies you are quoting from? No. 7 says: "the glutamine supplementation does not prevent the postexercise changes in several aspects of immune function." And: "However, the suggested reasons for taking glutamine supplements (support for immune system, increased glycogen synthesis, anticatabolic effect) have received little support from well-controlled scientific studies in healthy, well-nourished humans." What do you make out of that? And please mention if you have any conflict of interest.
Can u take this while fasting?
Sir can i use l-glutamine supplement that bodybuilders use to heal my leaky gut?
It’s been proven that L-glutamine treats leaky gut. I just started taking it and I’m hoping it will fix my leaky gut
@@CombosLegacy614 so did it fix your gut 1 year later?
Paul Levine Absolutely. I love glutamine
One thing that really helped my leaky gut / Sibo was also taking a tablespoon of Apple cider vinegar a day, it sounds weird but it has really worked for me. I use Bragg's organic as it also has good enzymes
saw a video from Ryan Humiston saying that glutamine was mostly absorbed in the intestines and therefore a garbage supplement. can you shed any light onto this?
When to take it please?
Can you take Glutamine everyday?
I take very very high dosages upto 20grams to heal up my guts every morning and every night
Im thinking of doing it only at nights only cause i feel lazy throughout the day with it
There is a new study that gave 0,5g of l Glutamin per 1kg bodyweight to children to heal leaky gut. Within 10 days day had significant improvement. I am taking 35g (I weigh 70kg) for 5 days now and I feel well, I take it to heal my leaky gut. But I seperate it into 3 ore more doeses.

Awesome video Thomas! Does taking Glutamine during a fast break the fast?
Michael Arevalo that’s what I’d like to know. My supplement does have any calories so it would be safe to assume that if you take it with just water ( yeah it’s gross) it would not. I’m so sore that I feel like I need it.

I like your info & confident onscreen presence, but I really recommend against the second angle where you’re not looking into the camera. Whoever came up with that idea, it’s really annoying. If you’re gonna cut to another angle, you should turn to that camera.
