I love nattou! Have you tried it before? I feel like in general, for someone to like nattou (and not be Japanese) they need to: 1) not mind the slimy texture, and 2) have been vegetarian or vegan for a while. (Of course, exceptions apply). One thing I envy about Japan is how cheap they can get tofu, nattou, and soy beans. A pack of tofu (which is a bit smaller than the ones sold here) goes for around 0.20 to 0.50 US cents depending upon the quality. To me, nattou just tastes like soy beans, with a fermented aftertaste. Good to have over rice.
H-Mart will always be pricier than the average Asian grocery store. You can find most/all the items you bought in this video at Chinese or Vietnamese grocery stores cheaper. Including canned seitan!
That's cool that you went to school in the Empire State Building lol Very fun fact indeed🤗😊 Edit: Everybody watch the ads all the way through so she can get some of her money back for all she spent in this store🙌🏿😩😅
I live in California and I have a place called beleaf burgers located in an Asian market that sells those vegan cheese corn dogs. I haven’t tried them yet but next time I go I plan on it because they look so delicious!
@@bodegacatx if your going to LA / Southern California you have to have to have to check the out “Wheel of Life”!! I think you’ll love it!! Their menu is massive! Just a suggestion if you head out here :)
Yes I shop at HMart, they have a frozen bag of vegan steaks (more like little meat loaves) six for $16!! So expensive, but really good. I'm going to look for those meatless sticks and dumplings you tried. Thanks for trying them on camera!

There's mochi ice cream made from coconut milk, the tteokdokki chips are good, vitasoy black milk is good, vegan oyster sauce is good(it's from the brand Kee Lee Kum and made from shiitake mushrooms)
H Mart is one of my favorite places to shop! I like getting produce there because the prices are very reasonable. That noodle isle is overwhelming tho! I have to know what I want before I even look at it! Lol!
I just tried the Companion canned mock duck/seitan and it was so fun! I will try rinsing it next time before cooking it because there was a little bit of a can flavor.
You went to the one that is by my office. I miss going to work (not the commute per se but the actual area). I love the options for food and for groceries by my job!
Nongshim makes a few vegan options and we like them all here. We eat Shin (check the label there are two different ones), Soon and the kimchi one YUM! We shop at Hmart when close to one, sometimes Lotte. We don't live near any of the large chains right now, if I need/want something from there I order from Hmart and Asian mart online, lately.

There's an Hmart not that far from me. I've been told to check it out. I think I will soon. That would be holding & open package the whole ride home lol.

Great video Rebecca and i love Asia vegan food. I have to order online because there's no local branch of H Mart in my area of the UK but there's a local branch of a Scottish Asian Supermarket chain and i need to visit it because I haven't been recently. Because H Mart was expensive does that mean a reduced budget for the rest of the month?
I LOOOOOVVVEEE Hmart. I have a shipment coming next week from them-just bought some awesome stainless steel bowls for my noodles. They had a five vegetable ramen that was sooo good, but also the Nongshim vegan ramen shown in your video is good(Amazon also has it). Yellow pickled radish is yummy, but I make my own.😁💞
H Mart in NYC is super expensive, much better prices in NJ. I bike across the GWB to shop at the one in Fort Lee (~5-6x bigger than the Manhattan locations) but if you drive there the toll will negate all your savings... Maybe keep that in your back pocket in case you happen to be on that side of the Hudson? You have to go to a Chinese supermarket for canned seitan. It doesn't seem like seitan is very common in Korean cuisine. The ones in Sunset Park will have them, same in Elmhurst, Flushing or Manhattan. Pro tip for transporting leaky items: Save heavy food-grade zip-lock bags (e.g., Target's Good & Gather frozen fruit packaging) and always have a couple in your bag. Easy to wash and re-use because of the sturdy material. On that note, instead of buying garbage bags, try using your plastic food packaging, like chip bags or even ramen packets. When they're full, just fold the opening, secure it with a rubber band and toss into your building's trash bins (which are already lined with garbage bags!). I haven't used garbage bags in ~5 years. Saves money, gets one more use out of plastic packaging, and also makes you aware how much plastic we use. ✌️
I'm hopefully going to New York with my girlfriend in September, I'm literally binge watching all your videos 😂 think we may be spending most of the trip eating! 😂
There was so much to look through that you may have to split that shopping trip into 2 or 3 trips so you can fully look through and maybe find more goodies.
H Mart EVERYWHERE is very expensive. The produce is very high quality but they price it so. I only go once a week but know I am going to spend 30% more then a normal supermarket trip.
Love you and your videos! Have you tried the Kind brand plant based ice creams? I’ve tried the dark chocolate almond sea salt and chocolate peanut butter (dark chocolate almond is better in my opinion) !
Because I cannot read in another other language I use google translate app! With your camera I hover over a product to get a better idea what the ingredients are. Yeah, I'm guessing that hmart is just more expensive because I don't remember the nenin flushing being that much. Next time get some fresh noodles. So delicious!!!
Canned seitan is becoming a thing again. Maybe I will actually give it a go, as I have seen 1-2 options in the nearby shop...but it seems kind of weird, doesn't it? :D
