I feel the biggest problem with this generation is that we depend too much on Unglish (Urdu & English) Unfortunately, we cannot exclusively speak Urdu. Speaking for myself, I cannot communicate in Urdu without inserting English sentences and words. A lot of people have a similar struggle with English. I'm not quite sure what is the solution to this but it I feel we are at a disadvantage. Good topic guys!
Read urdu literature daily, in this way your urdu vocabulary will be increase and then you can use urdu word instead of english word.I have improved my urdu using this technique. Now i am using minimum eng word in my speaking.
What happened with me was, I’ve always been more comfortable speaking in English. Even in my house with my father and all. I’ve grew up living in Gulf and studied in International school so English was my first language. But when I went to do my O’Level in Pakistan and talked in English with an accent (which they thought I’ve, I still don’t think I’ve an accent) my classmates would make fun of me cause apparently they thought I’m ‘showing off’. It used to be such an anxiety filled part of my life because then I started to pretend that I don’t speak English and forced myself to talk in Urdu just so I could fit in.
Be it English or Urdu, French whatever. It’s just a language. Please don’t belittle anyone. I’m not proud of my Urdu either, which was why I worked hard on it and even ended up giving Urdu’s exam in my O/ALevel after coming back to Jeddah. Just be humble, be respectful of whichever the language one speaks. I don’t become much more educated just because I speak English a lot more fluently than Urdu.

It's nothing about complex of english. It's good being bilingual and knowing more than just one language. Opens a whole new world. Learning is great ..do learn English,Urdu etc.

I live in London and here when young girls / adult speak in Urdu in public places like restaurants shop etc. People make it seem weird. I proud of speaking of Urdu and never feel embarrassed but at times whish I learn to read and write Urdu.

I was graduated last month. I got an interview call from some company at open house. The interview went so well in the start. But in the end that person asked me 'I am record a 30 sec video of you in which you are gonna explain yourself IN ENGLISH'. That thing ruined my whole interview. I said so funny things that although I was sad but I was laughing on the things I said in that camera. MAN that day I realized I need to work on that!

I recently came back from Turkey after 4.5 months of stay. I had friends from Netherlands, France, Turkey, Taiwan, Jordan etc etc all had language of even their mobile and laptops in their own language.. Aur hamay to Urdu type bhi nai karni aati.. hamay zaban ko own karna waqai zaroori hai.. True that English is important to know, make you more employable, but knowing or not knowing it shouldn't be measure of education level..

I think the problem goes both ways (the problem has kinda shifted in recent years, impo). I've always tell people not to make fun of others if they can't speak a certain language(it can be any language and not just English). Instead, try and help them understand it better. But i have been made fun of quite a lot for speaking English. In the end, speaking a certain language does not make someone better than anyone else.
