Try putting it on your appendix Inside your waistband if the loop can be switched to the other side, or beside your CCW if that works, I like to keep mine there for if someone has top mount on me or is smothering me and my arms can't reach my firearm or I don't have one on me. There is a knife that I am sure you have heard of called the clinch pick that is perfect for that exact situation.

The older plastic tourniquet is a CAT.(Combat Application Tourniquet) the metal one is called a SOF-T. They are more heavy duty and won't break. Practice with the thumb screw that prevents the jaw from opening. It needs to be backed all the way of when stored, but when you apply the tourniquet you need to tighten all the way down when you are done or the Tourniquet will start to loosen and slip.

Mike, to mount your knife look at "malice" clips (combination of the words Molle and Alice) they often have screw holes in the clips that you can mount your sheet to. Then you can thread the clips through you gear just like any other molle or pals webbing.

Great vid Icy Mike - I'm going to guess that you had some SWAT or other experience beyond regular L/E academy training. That or you've taken professional shooting/CQB training on your own. Pretty solid fundamentals from what I saw, your draw stroke could use a bit of work and efficiency improvement, but ya, really liked what I observed overall. Good solid stance and movement, etc etc. Also, if you have a magazine that you have to regularly "shake" to get it to eject from the handgun properly, either fix it or ditch it (based on your first reload in the video - I realize it could be a "one off", but if it isn't take action and either fix/ditch that mag, or get a Glock armorer to have a look at your chunk and assses/repair it - I'd do it for you myself if I was in Myrtle area, but I"m in Canada for a while, so no go).
Again, great vid, you have such a great way of explaining things for the camera, I bet you're a fantastic instructor in person, and I always like instructors who incorporate unarmed fighting along with armed, as much as you're doing here. Thumbs way up.

Handle up makes it a bit better for retention, a bit less accessable. What are you doing? Wrestling, crowd control? Probably want better retention. Are you going into actual battle? Better to have the handle down, as you'll be going for the knife before you even start grappling.

Mike, the CAT tourniquet shouldn't "snap and break" like that marine said. Either he or his buddy cheaped out and bought a 10-15 dollar practice/toy tourniquet.
Tourniquets are thoroughly tested and certified, so if it breaks on you, you set that up.
If you did the same by buying a dirt cheap tourniquet, he's right that you should ditch it.
The only reason he'd think that is if he or his buddy decided to be stupid and buy a much cheaper one not realizing that it was a toy/practice tourniquet.
Never cheap out on your life saving medical gear. Buy from a reputable company that either specializes in medical equipment for LEO and Military.

About your TQ: In the early GWOT before the CAT was put through the paces, this happened a lot. So, naturally, grunts started not to trust them. The CAT design was beefed up and improved and now Gen 7 CATs are standard issue. However, they are only 1 of several CoTCCC approved TQ's. The others are more expensive though. The SOF-T Wide, which you have in your hand, is on the list also.
About the KNOIFE: You probably know better than me, but a smaller pokey tool might be easier to draw and use in the clinch/ grapple situation. There is a small knife designed for clinch fighting called the clinch pick. It's designed as an emergency tool to create space so you can draw your firearm, not as a weapon for use in a prolonged engagement.

Good stuff, some intense wrestling. I carry a fixed blade alongside my firearm for the same reason discovered by your training. One thing Ill say is that if your gonna carry a blade like that, concealed is always better then openly carried. First rule in using a blade for self defense: Your opponent should only know you have a blade AFTER its already been used on them.
Otherwise, its an easy target, no retention holsters like a gun has, and having your blade taken from you is every knife carriers worst nightmare.

Not sure if it'll work for your setup but I really liked the Tek-Lok belt attachment by Blade-Tech for when I carried my Izula knife on my work bag. I field tested it extensively in my line of work so it was often deployed to cut loose strings from shirts, open shipping boxes, and pry keys off my keyboard to clean underneath after trying to pour the bottom-of-the bag chip crumbs into my mouth and failing. Yeah, it may have never been life or death but when Janice down the hall couldn't open some anti-theft plastic packaging who was the hero of the day? My knife. And to a lesser extent, me.

"Sometimes, a hypocrite is nothing more than a man in the process of changing."
That quote is from one of my favorite characters, from one of my favorite book series (we will see if there are any nerds like me in here who recognize it). It spoke to me a lot, because we place so much negative emphasis on hypocrisy in our society, but I think the better assessment of a person's character isn't necessarily whether or not they have been hypocritical- but instead whether or not they *realize* their hypocrisy and assessing the actions they are taking as a result.
As an aside, if the aforementioned hypocritical person is in the process of changing... _into a werewolf_ that is totally a different issue and I will let Cliff speak towards that.

Put knife on your left shoulder if it has enough retention to stay upside down. This way you can either cross draw with right hand or just reach up with left hand. Fighting over gun they would switch priority if they are being stabbed.

You should check out the SOCP system by Greg Thompson. Its the best thing I've seen for fighting in armor -- lots of focus on weapon retention and getting back to your guns. Also, I highly recommend wearing an ambidextrous fixed blade ring knife on your centerline where you can get to it with either hand at all times. Plus the muscle memory/index point for reaching for the knife is almost the same as reaching for a new 5.56 mag.
You might also consider wearing your pistol on your chest instead of your hip. It makes for a quicker draw at close quarters, a more defensible weapon, and it allows you to draw much easier from a seated position (esp. in a car).

I have this foot and a bit long chain that I picked up one day on my way home because I wanted something to fidget with and naturally I soon ended up using it like a flail x nunchuck hybrid on my punching bag. My chain is the kind of chain that would typically be used to keep a box truck's door closed or on a locked fence so it isn't sharp or greasy like a bike chain, and it has 2 ends rather than being connected all the way around.

I think you could probably fit a small push-blade with a good clip-on right behind the chest area so you can access it readily with both arms. If not a push-blade, would have to be something small though. Some police-men i know do that and put one in their boots side or on the vest itself, so its also pretty hidden. Then you can pull it out like you're reaching for your guard.

Hard2Hurt has covered 2 areas: 1) he knows how to handle a gun, and he knows hand to hand combat so he is a double threat. Which is uncommon because most guys who are really good with their hands don't rely on weapons while most guys in the streets who carry weapons can't fight. But now the question is does Hard2Hit have any street smarts as far as sensing or knowing when danger is ahead, as far as knowing how to watch his back, as far as knowing how to present himself in a manner where he doesn't become a target, as far as knowing how to position himself where he makes it harder for a bad guy to get position on him while he's standing or walking, and maybe etc.

A great drill for non-wrestlers who need to get better at wrestling: switch off one person setting up a proper takedown while the other person just actively defends. Now this is the kind of training I like. I even did weirder shit using air guns because real firearms would be too dangerous, such as setting up a range in the apartment boiler room in the basement. Anyways, as Mike just told you, you should always have an off hand option. I see cops with their belts, they have a tazer, gun and pepper spray as well as a flashlight, all on their right side. A few mags and a radio on the left, cuffs in the rear. So they usually have no offhand option. Mike, set the knife lower on the carrier, handle up for good retention, higher on the carrier handle down for ease of access. Mikah from Black Bear custom Kydex, a sheath and blade draw master, pointed out something the other day, that a nice option for an offhand blade is to carry it cross draw, that way you can draw it with either hand, but that would be on a war belt. That was Ssmething I never thought about, but I agree.

Have you considered the clinch pick (by Shivworks) as an off-hand side carry option? It is pretty much designed to get you out of the exact situation you were training at the end.

I used to have one of those MOD Knives. I think Ayoob Massad (sure I spelled and got his name wrong), had them made in the late 90's through some knife company, they stopped and MOD picked it up, and eventually they stopped. But I heard they were popular with EMTs and military Medics, I've read stories of amputations carried out with those. I disliked the version I had because of how polished the edge was. It would melt through paper, but would just slide across rope. But at the same rate, I guess it was designed at that time for stabbing and not slashing.

@@hard2hurt Ok, I've rewatched it. That's a discussion on why you think chokes are better (with legitimate reasoning behind it), but it doesn't go into the mechanical aspects of joint locks or their application in a self-defense situation (i.e. which locks are most practical and when to use them, that sort of thing), which is more what I had in mind. But ok.

I'm a big fan of wearing my knife horizontally at the waist with the handle pointing at my opponent. It makes it easy to draw with either hand and if the opponent goes to trap it in the sheath, you can pivot your hips back to get it out. Never tried with body armor and a gun though.

Bro, batman doesn't use guns. Where's your batarangs???
On a serious note, seeing like that wrestling near the end was mad. If you get into grapple with an armed man and can keep his hands busy from drawing his weapon, you may have a fighting chance of beating that guy. That's actually terrifying. You can be armoured up and loaded with guns and mags but if you get caught in a wrestling match before you can draw your gun, then your chances of success drops down by a lot.

I know some people like mounting their knife on their shoulder(when wearing a vest) for a quick draw. For rafting it's so they can quickly cut them selves loose if they get on some sort of line. Soldiers I can't speak personally but I would guess they prefer keeping their hands in front instead of to the side.

Awesome, good training right there. I would suggest having the knife center. Front or back, center of plate carrier. But I would keep it on your belt. As you would for EDC. Mine is back center. But you could go weak side if you prefer. I like being able to reach it with either hand.

IMHO, too many are obsessed with using their weapon, but forget to consider it's deployment.
I get tired of hearing: _never bring a knife to a gun-fight._
Mr. bad guy won't announce his robbery until he's grabbing you with one hand and put his knife into your face...
Even with some distance, you need to be able not just to land anatomically significant hits, but be able to draw your gun fast.
Moreover, there are a few other things to consider:
Drawing from the drop is suicide and the same goes for a knife-threat. It can happen that you grab his weapon arm before thinking and now the fight is on! Can you draw your gun and deploy it with one hand, before he breaks free? Can you disarm him, or do a takedown and then deploy your weapon?
What if someone jumps you and he's on top of you, or you get attacked by a dog?
Can you use your weapon in your non-dominant hand? Can you shoot from awkward positions (on the ground, from cover, in a car...)?
If you got also a knife and pepper-spray, when do you draw what? If you haven't thought about it, you'll be too slow!
Similarly, in what situations would you intervene/defend yourself and where would you rather evade, or comply?
Lastly, do you have any first-aid skills? Or worse: do you even know the emergency numbers? (especially important, if you live in Europe and every country has a different number...)

I have the same vest, I slipped a ka bar TDI on the left side, the clip fits the molle pretty well, for a knife that long, maybe inside the waste band, attached with a lanyard, angled forward on support side? If you demand it be on your vest, it will take up a lot of real estate.

So in the world of molle vest stuff and sheaths fuck a tech lock run zip ties/wire ties through the holes on your sheath and then through the webbing. The more ties the better if one breaks or what ever no biggie more are holding it. As far as hands on stuff strongly encourage you to get a trainer knife and roll with the big guy again assuming he knows you have both a gun and knife see how it goes. Great channel love the content!
