I know this video is over 8yrs old but idk how many times I have watched this the past few days! I am very impressed on how well this single stage blower handled all this snow! I always thought 2 stage blowers would be better but this Toro really showed how well a single stage can perform in deep snow!
I own the Toro Snowmaster as well. It did seem jumpy at first, just as seen in this video. Eventually I learned that the right technique with the Toro personal pace system is to NOT push it, but simply hold on and start walking.
+ruben shrestha Yes, once you get use to it, it doesn't jump any more. You just have to trust that it will go alone with you as you walk, instead of pushing it before you start walking. You pointed it out correctly.
awesome machine, I just got the model 36001 which is the sane but with manual cute control and no electric start. it is a great design, lightweight & maneuverable. great video!
I see how fast he is walking, this thing moves at least twice as fast as any two stage I've seen. I think this Toro would have no problem with the plowed packed snow by the curb if he went slow and steady or just take a smaller bite but as you said "his first time". Looks to be as easy or easier to use than a single stage and for sure its faster and lighter than a two stage. I'm currently shopping and I might opt for the 824 if I can catch a sale but doubt its necessary. Here in northwest Ohio we can get a lot of snow or next to nothing. The fact is that depending on El-Nino we only get a 12+" snowfall about once every 2-7 years. I think having this to quickly clear 100's of smaller snowfalls is the prudent choice. I can take my time in the one deep snow vs using a slow and heavy hulking behemoth in 3" of snow, that would be as much work as manual shoveling.
We have one too, it's been great so far! It's been about 5 years now. No problems what-so-ever. Each year, we do our maintenance's before Winter. So far it's been good to us!
I think you prepare for the unexpected though... I’m in Canada, just north of Cleveland and was doing a study of that along with shopping for snowblowers.
Although we are certainly Global Warming impacts, we can still get some unexpected storms and it can make for some bad winter weather. Take 2008 for example, we had 131 inches of snow that year, the most since 1910. The worst day was 12”, the most snow on the ground measured at about 15” and that was a day in late November.
If you prepare for something like that you’re probably better off. Yeah we’ve had warmer temperatures on average but when you’re outside in frigid temperatures you just want to get it done as quick as possible I think. Especially when the snow is blowing back in your face
The way people walk with the snowmaster snow blower is much more natural than a 2 stage blower. When ever I see someone walking behind a 2 stage machine I think they are doing the "2 Stage Shuffle".
i have a new 824 that runs great 850 at home depot. clears 2 ft no problem here in connecticut.
That is substantially quicker than my 2-stage, it physically throws the stuff much faster.
I want to make a larger single stage snow blower and it's interesting to see how the "commercials" do it.

someone needs to blow one of these up and sale it to me so I can rig one up with one of the extra Toro R*Tek 2-cycle engines I have! It would look great next to my 726te 7hp 2-stroke 2 stage & 2450 with the 5hp version of the same 2-stroke that I of course have tuned to 6.5hp :)
I like this, only I want to repower with a Briggs 950 snow series. Mine would probably be a belt burner though.
Only problem with Snow Master I think is end of the driveway stuff that would be better with a 2-stage impeller and friction disk drive. Does a great job clearing the snow right to the pavement, even 12”+ but I see a lot of people struggle with the stuff the plow leaves behind.
Keep looking at snowmaster videos. They handle EOD well enough for most homeowners.
I should've bought this. I bought Honda HSS24 track snowblower. This looks easier to operate.
You probably got the better machine for the long run though. The Hondas have their negatives but I've used my dad's honda since I was 16. I'm 41 now and he still uses it to this day with no issues. The only thing that we had issues with was the F&R lever kept coming loose and we lost the nut and lock washer at one point. This Toro seems like a good machine too.

No, it took me a few minutes to assemble. First i thought i could figure it out myself, but then i had to grab a user manual to see what to screw where. I would recommend to just use a user manual from start for peace of mind. If i did, i could have done it in like 5 minutes.
It took me about 15 minutes to assemble mine. I think there were a total of 5 or 6 bolts to install and tighten to secure the chute, the chute control rod, and one cable clip.
I love mine. I’m retired so I can go out and clean up the snow but don’t have to do it all at once. Love it because it throws the snow as far as a two stage and it super light so zero reason for reverse gears besides for safety blowers with reverse are to slow anyways. It’s light weight doesn’t beat you up like a large two stage

Works good but it was struggling better off with the 824 version more horsepower..
You need the 824 for the heavy stuff so it doesn't stall.

Yes, you get use to it. It's very nice that the blower adjusts its speed to yours, instead of you having to adapt to its pace.

After using this one for 3 winters, For wet heavier snow a I would recommend a stronger 2 stage blower.
So this is a single stage snow blower but looks like a two stage? I'm confused because this has really good reviews on HD website but the price point at least for the Toro Snowmaster 826 QXE is $911, the 724 is listed at $750... which honestly why would one not just get an Ariens 2 stage for the same price (as the toro 826, or spend $130 more on the compact 24) knowing it could handle pretty much anything?Note that I'm not trying to start anything... I'm actually looking to buy a snow blower in the next week but the amount of research and crap I've read about snow blowers is mind boggling. Quite overwhelming actually since the range not only in price goes everywhere but also size...etc.
I went at looked at one today and I was also surprised it it actually a single stage 'disguised' as a 2-stage. The sliding handle speed control doesn't look that great in use. I think they made a mistake implementing that design over conventional handles. I'm looking at the 2-stage Toro at $50 more due to the dual chute control vs the Troy-bilts $899 price tag to get that. I have two other Troy-bilts and they are impossible to kill. Some other neighbors have Ariens and I usually get done faster then they do with my smaller machines.
Unfortunately no place around me has this to actually look/touch... only online :-( I am not sure I dig the push control either. I think it's gimicky and I wonder how it fairs with snow/ice/rain that is freezing and gets into the sliding part... but who knows.
How large was it compared to other machines when you looked at it?
It was actually a good size but very light, much lighter than the 2-stage Toro (model 37779). I just bought the 2-stage model. Seemed to be the best option if you want a full chute control, 2-stage and electric start. All the other models were lacking something for more money. Hopefully it will run well :)

These single stage blowers are SO MUCH faster than a gear(friction disc) driven two stage. So with most storms being 10"or less, they fly.
I use a Toro CCR single stage two stroke. Easy maintenance and with one small belt, plastic cutting edge and rubber paddles. They last YEARS. Snow launches 30 feet. Cleans to the pavement, and throws slush and water.
I was considering a single stage but in the video I saw, the guy seemed to stall in the type of snow I have here (frequently heavy and above the machine). The 2-stage model is unstoppable but does run slower. I'd say most people would be fine with the single stage model.
What do you do for a living to be able to afford a house on that street?
Does anyone know if the paddles on these wear faster than the conventional single stages?
I would say slower, these paddles do not touch the ground like on a conventional single stage.
I bought mine in 2015 and I'm still on the original paddles, with rubber to spare. Remember, the rubber paddles on this machine are only a 10" straight strip across the middle section of the auger (2 of them)

This looks great with fluffy sow. I want to see it handle the end of driveway street plowed heavy slushy snow. The speed control also looks questionable. That's also not 'hard' snow at all. Thanks for the demonstration though. I can't use a machine like this with the snow I get in my part of NY.
adisharr I was wondering the same thing, if it can move the heavy stuff and get through end of driveway, that's the kicker! someone else makes a single stage with rubber / metal augers combined(can't remember which company at that moment) but something like that might work out better on this machine.
I have the 724 QXE and it handles the end of driveway plow mess pretty good! I was very skeptical at first but it cut through easily. We're on our third big snow of the season and I am very happy with this blower!(my neighbors are too!) The plows just went by tonight so I'll be clearing the end of driveway on the morning. I'll video it. The big plus on this blower is the speed. A neighbor has a 2 stage with a crank chute controller and the Toro runs circles around it. This last storm was very cold so the snow was was very dry but it handled it well. I've used it on wet slush and it did well. The speed control is very easy to get used to, you just walk and the unit keeps up with your pace. Also because it's light weight it is very easy to turn and pull back, it actually feels more like a lawn mower.

Interesting, thanks for the response. If you do get a chance to post a video it would be great to see. I was impressed on how light the machine is. It seems like 1/2 the weight of the new Toro 2-stage.

My humble 24" Toro will kick my 26" Honda's butt on a gravel driveway. The Toro throws gravel, the Honda breaks sher pins. The Toro is faster and easier to handle. It throws slush.
What's the point of going so fast?
Because it takes less time outside.
The auger also spins much faster than other machines.

+Tom W I used mine for the first time last week when we got 5 or 6 inches of snow. It';s fairly light weight at around 125 lbs and there's not a lot of weight on the front holding it down, so yes it tends to hop or jump a bit on irregularities in the pavement. But it wasn't a major problem and the benefits in convenience and maneuverability of Toro's new design seem more than worth it to me. It made short work of the snow and cleaned down to the pavement, as advertised.

His first time using this model. I think he used just one (smaller) blower before, that's all. So not much experience. He just wanted to test it and see how it performs, so I decided to film it, because... why not?.
Who builds the motor for this ?
that is one of toros motors...all the bolts are metric so a Chinese moter....but hay they run good if a take care of them....at the end of the year run the gas out of the carb or you will have problems....

Yes. With all this snow in NY we got this year it has helped me a lot. BUT it's not as powerful as two-stage blower. It doesn't throw wet half-melted snow well. Also it doesn't throw well compressed and frozen snow that snow plowing truck plows on your driveway while cleaning the road. You got to play around with that compressed snow and go very slow at it so the blower doesn't stall. I am talking about more than one foot deep of hard compressed snow. If you want more power, get two-stage one for more $$$. But convenience-wise I really recommend this model. The joystick chute control and adaptable speed features are amazingly helpful in making your job easier and simpler.

I'm surprised, people who live in these upscale neighborhoods don't usually cut their own grass or clear their own snow, their landscaper usually does both and usually they have several accounts in any one neighborhood.
+Peter Matuszak When I said "It's his first time", I meant he is using this snow blower for the first time. The snow blower is mine, but I am taking video. My brother is blowing the snow for me using my blower. I actually blow my snow and cut my grass myself. One day I will make a video about my Cub Cadet lawn mower tractor.
+Peter Matuszak The message in video "It's his first time" doesn't mean that he is hired to plow my snow. It means that he is plowing snow for the first time using my snow blower, just because I can't take video and blow the snow at the same time. But usually I blow the snow myself and mow the lawn myself too, using Cub Cadet tractor. And most of my neighbors blow the snow using their own snow blowers and mow their lawn themselves.
Knife Nut It depends on where this is, here in NJ houses in this kind of neighborhood would fetch probably in the quarter to million dollar range and the taxes would be at least fifteen thousand a year, not the average blue collar worker salary, that's why I call them upscale and not meant as a putdown, just that people who can afford these houses usually have more important things to do with their time than mowing lawns and blowing snow.
While the term "upscale" may be relative. Looking at the homes that appear in this video..the term would seem pretty appropriate..to the majority of people...

Everyone of these demo videos it's like, "Dude where do you live , Atlanta?". Some of the fluffiest, unicorn bedding I have ever seen. Can't someone actually test these things in some substantial snow, like those we have in New England ? Shit up here will rip your face off and at times is as heavy as Slayer eating pizza bagels. The fact that someone needs a snow blower for this type of snow gives me pause. Get off your couch and get your face out of your friggin phone and pick up a shovel. Joke.
Well, That time it was a fluffy snow, other times we get tougher snow. Depends on the temperature. Lower temp, harder the snow. We just did this right after the snow fall, so it was still fluffy. As a meter of fact, this snow blower is not powerful enough for tough snow over 1 foot (as you can see on the video).

Hey hot shot! Nice of you to blow snow on your neighbors driveway, and oh yeah your blowing snow right on that fire hydrant next to your driveway, when you or your neighbors house is on fire, guess what, the fire department has to shovel the hydrant clear to get at it and oh yes the house is burning all the while. Now lets look at your cars in the driveway, is that a shelf of snow
on the roof, so while your driving you are so kindly letting snow blow off and blinding the drivers behind you, don't be lazy, clean the snow off the top (you know kinda like you take a shower, wash from the top down). Are you clearing the snow off of your lights and licence plate, the entire plate has to be visible, including the month and year stickers, and all windows. Did you know you can get a ticket for a moving violation from the police for any of these omissions! What about your mail box, did you know its the home owners responsibility to make it accessible the the mail-person, if they can't reach your mailbox they are not obligated to deliver your mail, check with the postal service on that. Summary: be considerate of your neighbors, fellow drivers and the US postal service.

Terrible. Lost count on how many times it almost stalled.
Only a clown would start the engine the way he did 1) always place the pull cord back 2) pay attention once the engine starts you may have to move the throttle to the run position
These just have no throttle its on or off
I think he cut the Video @ #2. It's always good to let the Engine Runs when start, to get hot/warm. We let it run for about 2 minutes on Choke before we move to Middle or Max Run.
the little 18'' single stage toro works way better than that thing wow !
