Amtrak 150 leads one of the last Genesis sets on the Amtrak Auto Train

We are only days away from Amtrak switching over locomotive power from the Genesis locomotives to the new Siemens ALC-42 chargers. The Genesis locomotives have been serving the Auto Train since their introduction in the 1990s.

Does that mean the P42DCs will be retired this month or will they stay in service longer?

There’s no confirmed date. People have been speculating August though.

When these locomotives are retired, they will probably be sold to Metrolink.
